Chapter 18 – Trials and Tribulations
We gathered at the backyard field early. The sun was out. The grass wasn't perfect, but the space felt like ours.
Today, everyone looked energized. Luca brought an extra ball, Rosa wore her game face, and even Benji was bouncing like he had springs in his boots.
Giorgio, our captain, stood in front of us with his clipboard. Yes, clipboard.
"Alright, team. Today's session is simple. We're not playing."
Everyone froze.
"No playing?" Michele asked, blinking.
"Nope. Today is about fitness. Jogging. Sprints. Shuttle runs. Strength work."
Groans erupted like thunder.
"Come on, Cap," Rosa whined. "Don't worry, you're just pulling our legs, right? We're going to play ball today... aren't we, Cap? Cap? Cap, please say something?"
Silence.
Giorgio blew the whistle.
"Warm-up jog. Let's go."

Ten minutes into the jog and people were already negotiating.
