Deranged beast!

Chapter 50

The group kept on moving and everyone in the group wanted to ask Kevin about the disappearance of the monster's remains except for Elizabeth who had seen Kevin do more things.

Soon they came across another monster. It was the same but a little bigger in size. The threat level this time as said by the system was D, so Kevin adopted the same strategy since it was also alone.

Though this time Kevin had to hit it two times for the same impact and used Nathan's knife to pierce its heart.

Repeating the same process, he tossed the crystal to Sasha while he sold the rest in the shop. Once again Sasha asked about the disappearance but there was no answer.

Kevin sold everything this time for three hundred gold coins so now he had five hundred and sixty gold coins. Not enough to buy skills as their starting prices were ten thousand but the skill craft at level one was only at a thousand and that was Kevin's first goal.

However soon when he had hunted a third one whose threat level was also E, a system notification showed up.

[The user is advised to purchase the "Disassemble" skill from the shop]

[Disassemble (LV: max)]

[Allows the user to disassemble and arrange everything he touches.]

[The user must be in contact with the object.

The object must be non-living.

Assembling is not possible with the skill.

Cost: 5 LE

Price: 500 GC]

Kevin considered buying this skill as when he would dismember the beasts, their organs and meat would get damaged because of it and their prices would lower by a lot.

Kevin purchased the skill even though its cost was quite high. His third beast had only given him a hundred gold coins, so he wasn't left with much after buying the skill.

Now they had three crystals and Kevin had found a way to make gold coins. Making gold coins was quite easy it seemed.

The group kept moving but this time they came across two monsters of threat level E.

"Okay, this time I need you to repeat the same trick but without me: Liz, buff Beatrice, and Sarah. Beatrice, you will now assume my role and protect Sarah. When the beast comes to you, do not engage but run in any side direction, attracting its attention so Sarah can execute her move." Beatrice nodded at Kevin's instructions.

He then turned to Sasha, "Sasha, your role is the same while Nathan, you will have to finish it off," Kevin instructed the whole group who nodded.

"What about you?" Sasha asked.

"I will take care of the other one," Kevin replied calmly.

Sasha was about to say something when Elizabeth interrupted her and asked Kevin, "You don't need me to buff you?"

In a way, she was agreeing with Kevin's plan. The others didn't know how to react to that. Of course, until now their tactics have been very simple, they would finish off the beast before it could fight back but going against it alone wouldn't assure that.

If that beast's damage was high, there was no one to support Kevin. Everyone wanted to stop him, but Elizabeth's assent made it rather difficult.

"Okay, we will move at the same time."

Kevin instructed and everyone nodded. He received a 'good luck' from Nathan to which he nodded in return. Kevin moved and, on his signal, the others moved as well.

The monsters noticed them, and they both ran toward the biggest group, ignoring the lone traveler but Kevin cast 'Dark thoughts' on one of the beasts and it stopped in its tracks which created quite a distance between both of the beasts.

The others focused on the one who was mobile while Kevin focused on the immobile one.

Kevin threw an elbow strike right in the middle of its chest which canceled the effect of 'Dark thoughts' but the damage had been delivered. The beast arched slightly in pain and Kevin thrusted Nathan's knife straight in its head.

The knife got stuck in the beast's head and it started thrashing about. It wasn't dead but it wasn't going to stay like that for a long time.

It started shooting its needles from the back in every direction but fortunately, Kevin avoided all of them. The beast died after a few seconds, but Kevin heard Elizabeth's voice right then. He turned to see Nathan on the ground with a needle in his stomach.

Kevin hurriedly made his way towards him and saw Elizabeth using her ability on him but for some reason, it wasn't working.

"Why isn't it working?" Sasha asked in a panic. "It's too deep. My ability is not strong enough yet to heal something like this." Elizabeth replied.

Kevin hurriedly bought two potions from the shop and two glass flasks with red-colored liquid appeared in his hands.

"Move." Kevin pushed Sasha aside, put his hand on the meter-long needle, and held an opened flask with the other.

According to the system's description, if he drinks a potion, his overall health will heal but if the wound is too deep it might only partially heal. Pouring the potion on the open wound would focus the effect on only the said wound.

Kevin pulled out the needle which made Nathan yell in pain, but he hurriedly poured the potion on him. Everyone saw what he was doing but the girls didn't know what to ask. Even Elizabeth hadn't seen Kevin do something like this.

Nathan's yells of pain started lessening soon and his wound started closing at a fast rate in front of everyone's eyes. Soon new skin formed on the wound, and it closed.

Kevin opened the other flask and said, "Nathan, drink up."

Nathan who was in far less pain now, opened his mouth and drank the red liquid which had performed a miracle on his abdomen. Soon he started feeling better and after a few moments, he was no longer in pain.

"What happened?" Kevin asked while everyone was amazed at the miracle performed by Kevin. "It was because of me." Kevin heard Beatrice say.

"I attracted the beast's attention but instead of following me, it turned around and shot a few needles at me. I was able to dodge all of them except one. And before I knew it, Nathan had appeared before me and taken the hit." Her voice was laced with guilt as if it was her fault.

"Don't beat yourself over it. We don't know these beasts enough to know whether they have intelligence or not. My plans were formed on the fact that they attack blindly. No one could have anticipated it turning around to shoot at you like an intelligent being." Kevin comforted her and stated the fault in his own plan.

"Forget about that, what was that you just did?" Sasha asked again but Kevin didn't reply. Instead, he moved to the beast the group had hunted and used his new skill on it.

[Skill Disassemble used]

A glow appeared on the beast's body. It soon receded and what was left in its place were components of the beast neatly on the ground.

Kevin smiled as none of the meat was damaged but there was a damaged heart which Kevin suspected was because of an attack.

Kevin picked up the mana stone and tossed it toward Sasha while he sold everything he could, leaving the rest as it was. The beast was sold for a hundred and fifty gold coins. Kevin repeated the same procedure with the other one under the astonished eyes of everyone and earned another amount of the same gold coins.

'I will have to ask him about these things when we're alone.' Elizabeth thought while the rest could only swallow their question as it didn't seem like Kevin was going to answer anything.

"We now have five crystals. Only seven to go but this time we will move cautiously. We don't want another similar accident to happen." Kevin instructed while the rest of the group nodded, and they started moving.

[LE 85\125]

[Health potion X5]

[Stamina potion X5]

"I need all of you to keep one with you each. The blue one restores stamina while the red one heals wounds. If the wound is flesh wound then directly pour it onto it and if the wound is internal, then drink it." Kevin explained while giving each one of his team members each set of health potions and stamina potions.

They were able to avoid any major injuries since the incident with Nathan, but they still had attained some flesh wounds. Elizabeth could only heal someone every hour.

They couldn't take the risk so despite the risk of exposure, Kevin didn't want someone to die on his watch, so he bought the potions for each of them.

And also, because everyone had started to show signs of exhaustion after their hunts. Though they had completed the objective of hunting twelve monsters and now everyone in the group could pass, they couldn't go back as the sky was starting to go dark.

Kevin had decided that it was dangerous to travel in the dark and everyone agreed with him.

Everyone took the flasks of colorful liquids from him and nodded. Even though they had many questions, since none had been answered until now, so they had stopped asking.

"So how will we spend the night?" Nathan asked.

Kevin bought sleeping bags and a tent set which only cost him fifty gold coins but there was only one sleeping bag and he couldn't buy them separately, so he had to buy three sets bringing his expenditure to triple the amount.

[1425 GC]

When sleeping bags and tents magically appeared, everyone felt the impulse to ask again but they still kept their mouths shut.

"A three-by-three shift. We will only sleep for six hours and then even if the sky doesn't brighten, we will stay awake and move on the first sign of light." Everyone nodded at his instructions.

"The first shift will be comprised of Nathan, Sarah, and Beatrice. Me, Liz, and Sasha will take over after three hours. Any objections?" Everyone shook their heads at Kevin's instructions.

Tents were set and the first selected three stood guard outside.

Inside his tent, Kevin opened the bag and entered it. Kevin missed Elizabeth but he decided to hold himself back.

He thought about purchasing the skill Craft but decided to hold that off as well.

He slept and was woken up by Nathan to take over the shift. They took over the three-hour shift during which Elizabeth would send him flirty signals whenever Sasha wasn't looking and made lewd faces at Kevin which turned him on quite a bit.

The second shift ended but heeding Kevin's instructions, they didn't sleep but trained instead.

After about two hours, the sky started to brighten, and the group started walking back to the rendezvous point where the portal back to the Academy was supposed to be.

On their way back, suddenly his system displayed notifications that he couldn't quite understand.

[Warning]`

[A high-rank mana beast detected]

[Threat level C+]

[Mana beast is deranged]

[Threat level is slightly increased]

[Threat Level B-]

As soon as Kevin finished reading these notifications, he spotted a few needles being shot at them from some distance, he hurriedly threw his tent in the air and yelled, "Sarah, Ice wall."

Sarah didn't ask for the reason and hurriedly conjured an ice wall behind the thrown tent which was soon pierced by two-meter-long needles.

"Everyone, take cover. Nathan, protect Betty and Sarah." Kevin instructed Nathan while he held Sasha and Elizabeth in each of his arms and ran for cover behind one of the rock dunes. Nathan also did the same and activated his ability, holding Sarah and Beatrice, and ran for the nearest rock dune.

He ran for the nearest one because he didn't want to be far from Kevin and others and also because it would be easier to listen to Kevin's instructions if they were close.

Kevin peeked his head from the side of the dune and saw a monster heading in their direction. It was about five feet in height which was lower than the other monsters.

Its black eyes were blank while drool was flowing from his mouth. A deranged beast had appeared, and he had no idea how to deal with it.
