The mission began.
Von didn't join them.
"I've got something I need to take care of," he said quietly, staying behind as the others moved out.
Elias, Joseph, and Wendy parted ways at the city gates, slipping into the shadows of Windrise. Stella walked alone, the youngest of them all—but the one with the heaviest memories tied to this place.
---
The streets whispered to her.
"Sweety, what do you want for dinner tonight?"
"Hmmm... Oh! Windrise Hog Belly!" her younger self said with excitement.
"Didn't you have that last Sunday?" Lumine's voice, gentle. "Don't you want Mastaki Mushroom Toast?"
"No! I want Windrise Hog Belly!" Stella had pouted, stomping her foot.
The memories wrapped around her like smoke—illusions from the past crawling out from every corner.
"Mommy, I want that doll," she remembered asking in the market square.
"Honey, you already have one just like it," Lumine had replied with a soft laugh, patting her on the head.
"Please, please. I won't ask for anything else. Just this one. I promise!"
"Okay. Pinky promise?"
"Pinky promise."
Tears welled up in Stella's eyes. She walked slower. The world around her moved forward—people, time, noise—but she stayed still inside.
Everything felt heavy. Too heavy for a thirteen-year-old girl to carry.
And then, she arrived at the place.
Her school.
The front gates still stood like sentries of sorrow.
This was where she had last seen her mother.Where Lumine—her mom, her protector, her whole world—was taken from her.
Her knees trembled. Her body wanted to give in.But she stood tall, teeth clenched, fists tight, eyes fixed forward.
She turned to the statue that loomed above the school courtyard.Egotheon—wings stretched wide, a smirk etched in marble.
Stella looked up at him, wiped her tears, and whispered:
"I've become a part of something important, huh?"
---
While Stella was remisnising her old memories of that day, a voice come from behind.
"Lady Stella,"
Stella turned around and saw Cornelia with eyes of sorrow. Cornelia run toward her and hug her tightly. "It must have been too hard for you, poor lady Stella."
Even though Cornelia was family's servant head, she was like an aunt to Stella. Stella can't hold her tears back anymore and let it all out. She cried hard. She cried out with her head.
After some times, Cornelia said to Stella who is in her arms, "Wipe your tears, baby. There's someone expecting you."
She help wiped Stella's tears and continues " Let's head back to Seraphine Mension."
While Stella stood lost in the echoes of that haunting day, a voice called softly from behind.
"Lady Stella."
She turned around.
There, standing under the quiet grey sky, was Cornelia—her eyes filled with sorrow.
Without a word, Cornelia rushed forward and pulled Stella into a tight embrace.
"It must have been so hard for you… poor Lady Stella," she whispered, holding her close.
Though Cornelia was the head servant of her family, to Stella, she had always been more—like an aunt, a quiet guardian, a second mother in the shadows.
And now, with the weight of everything crushing her chest, Stella couldn't hold it in any longer.
She broke down.
The tears came pouring out—loud and raw. Her body trembled as she cried into Cornelia's shoulder, finally releasing everything she'd been holding back.
Time passed slowly, gently.
Then Cornelia, still holding her, whispered softly:
"Wipe your tears, baby. There's someone waiting to see you."
She gently dried the tears from Stella's face, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Come now," she said with a small, warm smile."Let's head back to Seraphine Mansion."
