Ignorant Intimacy

"When will Angela come?"

"It'll be in a few minutes, I think."

"The others already prepared the best front row seat for her and Selene."

"The event will start in a few minutes."

Such murmurs can be heard by the front of the seats provided by the assigned staff of the event.

They are the famous current upperclassmen of this university, students that are famous around the country for being willful and rebellious but treasured as the talented next generation.

But in front of a real genius, they would still be humble and seek advice honestly. And that genius is specifically the someone they were talking about earlier.

And soon enough, the famed guardian knight arrived in the audiovisual room with their celebrity in tow, looking like she just woke up, with hazy eyes, drooping eyebrows, and a drunken pace.

"Selene! You can sit here with Angela!" one courageous upperclassman waved his hand and pointed towards the reserved seats in front. Selene stopped for a moment to look towards that direction before nodding towards the boy who shouted. She then half-dragged the sleepy Angela towards the seats.

The boy blushed and returned to his seat quietly, much to the frustration of the others. They should have been braver and show their offerings to the guardian knight. After all, although the guardian knight is protective, she's not someone who will be violent all the time.

Hmm, specifically speaking, she'll only chose violence when out of sight of Angela.

"Ella, wake up. It's almost time for the event to start. You wouldn't want the Chancellor to see you nodding your head off while he talks in front, right?" Selene coaxed the sleepyhead beside her. It looks like the little threat about the Chancellor's presence brought her little sloth back from dreamland for good. Angela sat attentively and looked towards the stage, where the hosts were waiting for the start of the program.

Then, upon seeing that the Chancellor weren't even on stage, she turned towards Selene and pouted, showing her grievance clearly on her face.

"Be good. Bear with it for one hour and I'll cook you your favorite spaghetti once we're back in the dorms," Selene promised as she poked Angela's forehead.

Angela covered her forehead with both hands and squinted her eyes but still obediently did not return to her sleep. She lazily leaned on Selene's shoulders.

"Sii is a meanie," Angela complained and then stayed silent, preserving her energy that already dropped to dangerous levels. If Sii did not promise about treating her to spaghetti, she would have shamelessly slept in the front row seat even if the Chancellor arrives.

With Selene guarding Angela, nobody dared to talk loudly. In fact, the noisy hall gradually turned a little silent, in consideration of the low-spirited Angela. The other audience members that are non-students and are not familiar with the current students of the university all had confused expressions on their faces and asked a familiar faculty member to ask about the weird, subtle atmosphere in the hall.

When they heard about the presence of the special student, they all had enlightened expressions.

The program started and ended peacefully without any hindrance, and Angela immediately urged Selene to get back to the dorms to take a quick nap. Even moving right now seems taxing to someone like her who stayed awake for the last 48 hours without sleep.

She immediately slept like a log when they reached the dorms.

As her best friend, Selene patiently covered the sleeping beauty with the quilt before opening her laptop to deal with various matters that were left unattended when she assisted Angela for the last two days. Selene had always been good at time management, and unlike Angela who won't be able to sleep when she's focused on work, Selene managed to sneak in a wink or two so she's not as exhausted after the project's completion.

Selene's gentle expression when she's in front of Angela vanished as she coldly looked over the documents sent by the school. They have the same content, but different headings. Selene frowned as she massaged her eyebrows. It's useless for them to make roundabouts about this because she'll do what they say without anyone telling her to do so. It's wasting her precious time of looking over important documents.

After separating the useless brainwashing content, she moved on to other matters. When she looked up the clock to check the time after hours of looking at her laptop, Selene noticed that it had already been five hours, and Angela should soon be waking up.

Selene stood up from her desk and stretched her stiff back, then walked towards the kitchen area to cook after checking that Angela is still asleep.

She promised to serve her favorite spaghetti, and Selene is not keen on breaking her promises to her best friend. Even if Angela looks like a clumsy angel to most people, Selene knew just how strong she holds her grudges. It won't be an exaggeration that Angela would immediately break their friendship for such a trivial matter such as spaghetti. She saw such things happen before. She's the one who knew the most about Angela over the years.

Angela is a fragile yet guarded girl. She looks clingy and needy, but she actually hid her heart in a wall of thorns, and none can reach it, not even Selene. She already saw many people being abandoned ruthlessly after they thought that they already had a spot in Angela's heart and became complacent.

It was a laughable matter. But also, a sad one.

She did not want to be like the others.

Selene cooked as she wondered. The other occupants of the dorm greeted her, and she nodded quietly. They soon moved away and did not disturb her.

As soon as she finished cooking, Angela, with great timing, walked downstairs to the kitchen while rubbing her eyes. The other dorm occupants waved her a good afternoon before leaving the kitchen area for Selene and Angela to enjoy.

Observing that Angela's side bangs are getting in the way, Selene picked up a free hair band and affectionately tied Angela's hair behind her back while Angela enjoyed the spaghetti.

"Sii really makes the best spaghetti in the world! Sigh, I don't know what to do if Sii's not by my side anymore. I might die from the cravings~" Angela burped satisfied after she ate the spaghetti then hugged Selene's waist and cuddling her face unto Selene.

"A heartless little devil like you won't die from spaghetti deprivation," Selene flicked the forehead of Angela.

Angela pouted but remained silent. Can't offend the big boss who spoils her and makes her the spaghetti that she oh so loved~

Angela is no idiot. She's a special student that this university managed to recruit with great efforts. Other than her intelligence, Angela grew up being sensitive to the emotions of others due to her upbringing in a parentless family with her classmates bullying her for it. The students who claimed to be her best friends were all attached by the school she's in, full of ambition to climb higher and use her as a stepping stone.

Out of all of them, Selene is the only one she truly saw as her best friend. Selene is a great friend, with a serious outlook in life, but would dote on her if she got a little coquettish. Selene would frown whenever she reads something she dislikes, would smile helplessly if Angela acted spoiled, would be angry if Angela got a little wronged, and would comfort Angela if she got sad. Selene never hid her emotions in front of Angela. They were all laid bare for her to see. Or maybe she just can't hide them efficiently enough.

Angela wants all those emotions of Selene for herself. But she knew that Selene also has her own life. Selene, like all the others, was attached by the school to care for her. She knew that Selene is genuine for her care, but Angela also knew that if it weren't for the school's assignment, Selene wouldn't have come near Angela.

It's known that jokes are half-truth. She's afraid. Afraid that one day, her Selene would leave her. Afraid that one day, Selene would no longer look at her with those doting orbs. In the past three years that she knew Selene, she became her anchor in this world full of waves. If that anchor disappears, she's sure that the waves would swallow her up whole.

She can only be cautious, stretching one inch at a time, in order not to startle Selene.

As long as she can be with Selene, she's willing to pretend to be a lovable naïve little genius.

Selene is hers.

Hers and hers alone.

And she'll do anything to maintain it at that.

Two ignorant hearts beat at the same time, resonating with the rhythm that symbolizes harmony and affection, unknowing and coquettish.

As the two spent their time feeling content with each other's presence, the surrounding students can only lament at the fact that they seemed to be ignorant of the meaning of each other's stares. Truly the usual guardian knight and angel.

May their hearts be blessed.
