White Oak, I finally arrived, it's tiresome, it's far, now that I am here, all the effort getting here will finally be paid off.
Coffee, yes, I need something to kickstart my nerves before I start interviewing people, a good cup of coffee, gives focus, it awakens not just my body but also my soul.
The town it's beautiful, small and mesmerizing, can't believe a town like this holds many mystery, like they always say, two sides of a same coin.
Walking around I found what I'm looking for, a place to buy coffee, Avery Diner, lots of folks inside, a good sign, good food.
I sat and wait for the waiter, she arrived, looked at me, confused, well I was stranger into this town anyway, I just got here, just a visit of the town.
"You're not from around here", she said, "Just a tourist" I replied, as new face in the town, of course I'm new here, what would be the best thing to ask to a hungry new customer? The diner's best-selling meal and a cup of coffee, she recommended me the diner's most requested meal during breakfast, The Breakfast special.
The food and coffee arrived, as I finished eating, I asked the waiter if I could interview her, also told her that I'm an investigative journalist, I first asked her personal info, she's Anika Jones, 27 years old, single, working at the diner where I ate for 2 years, the only child, a resident of the town since she was a kid.
Now that I am done asking her what is to know of her, without wasting time, I told her my intentions, the kidnappings of the folks from White Oak.
The mood changed, her expression changed from a happy person that I met from White Oak, to an afraid person, she asked me if there are other questions.
"There are other none", I said, with a whisper from her, warning me, "Leave, never wander the forest", she then hold my hand, "People never came back, only one did, and he's dead" she said.
I'm not here for riddles, I'm confused, I asked her what does she mean by that, then she stand up, told me that's all she has to say, "Leave and save your life", she said as she was leaving. Now I am more curious on why the mystery is big, This one is a big story, I have to dig deeper.
Roaming around, I asked people, same response in a different structure, "Never go into the forest", never had a clear answer from people, until stumbled into one old lady, she's willing to answer my questions.
Esme is her name, she told me of the tale of the evil that lurks in those woods, she saw it when she was a kid, a man with a head of a skull of a deer, green glowing eyes, skinless, tattered clothes, holding a staff with a lamp and a skull of a man, glowing on its chest, the symbol of evil.
For an old woman she remember all of it like a day only passed, did I just stumble in a fairy tale? I know there is more to this story, This is the real world, the supernatural don't exist, maybe a trauma, she might have just remember differently, cloaking the experienced fear, believing it was something out of a children's story book.
I got what I need for today, I'm just gonna book a motel in town, get rest, tomorrow, on to Detective Jacobs, He might just have the answers I need.
