Chapter 84: I, Zhang Yi, Don't Raise Wastes

Zhang Yi surveyed the neighbors before him, nodding in satisfaction. Only after engaging in lethal actions could these neighbors become competent front-line soldiers and cannon fodder. Dealing with attacks from other building units would now be much more convenient. All he required in return was a meager offering of subpar sustenance and a variety of empty promises.

"Clap, clap, clap!"

Zhang Yi chuckled, applauding the scene. "Excellent! Can you see it? As long as we unite, what do these people have to fear?"

Zhang Yi turned towards two of the most diligent young men and gestured for them to approach. "Both of you, come here!"

The two young men, beaming with joy, hastily approached Zhang Yi, neglecting to wipe the bloodstains from their faces.

Zhang Yi reached down, directly grabbing a handful of edibles from the ground, then thrusting it into one person's arms. If one bundle wasn't enough, another one followed. Inflated and stale bread, moldy biscuits, dehydrated vegetable leaves, and a large piece of pale zombie meat – these were all authentic treasures!

Observing this spectacle, the other neighbors couldn't help but envy, salivating at the thought of those items being theirs.

Zhang Yi stuffed both individuals with heaps of supplies, then patted their shoulders. "Work diligently. As long as you maintain this momentum, I won't mistreat you in the future!"

The two young men were ecstatic, their bodies trembling. This sustenance would last them for several days. Tears welled up in their eyes – it had been far too long since they had tasted normal food.

"Brother Zhang Yi, we will definitely follow you wholeheartedly in the future!"

"We'll listen to you entirely; you are like a real brother to us!"

These two young men, Li Chengbin and Jiang Lei, shouted enthusiastically. In their eyes, Zhang Yi was now a figure worthy of gratitude.

Witnessing this glimmer of hope, some of the other neighbors couldn't help but regret silently. Why didn't they exert more effort just now?

This was precisely the scene Zhang Yi wanted to witness.

After rewarding the two most hardworking young men, Zhang Yi addressed the others, "Next, it's time to distribute food. Come forward one by one!"

Zhang Yi had observed everyone's performance just now. The more earnest their efforts, the more they received. Conversely, those with lackluster performances received less – maybe just a piece of bread or two small bags of biscuits.

Having raised dogs before, Zhang Yi understood a fundamental principle. If a dog is overfed daily, it becomes lazy and less obedient. The key is to keep the dog from starving but in a continuous state of hunger, ensuring obedience. The same principle applied to humans.

Although some neighbors felt disappointed seeing their limited rations, they dared not voice their complaints. Zhang Yi had conveniently brought out two typical individuals to showcase. If they claimed their food was insufficient, it was solely due to their lack of effort. Look at Li Chengbin and Jiang Lei – why did they have so much food? Stop blaming others; find reasons within yourselves!

"Xu Hao."

Zhang Yi pointed at the rich second-generation, Xu Hao. Xu Hao quickly approached, extending his hands. "Where's my food?"

Zhang Yi looked at him disdainfully, then casually scraped the ground with his foot, picking up a piece of fruit candy and placing it in Xu Hao's hand. "This is your food."

Mocking laughter echoed from the surrounding neighbors. Even those with minimal food felt a sense of balance at this moment. Look, although I received less, there are others who received even less than me! Haha, Xu Hao is truly unlucky!

Xu Hao widened his eyes, overwhelmed by a profound sense of humiliation. He angrily shouted, "Are you kidding me? Why do I only get a piece of candy?"

Zhang Yi sneered, "Do you even have the right to complain? While others were fighting, you were just lingering at the back. You didn't even touch those few people. Consider this candy a generous gesture on my part!"

Xu Hao was extremely cunning. While at the top, he shouted loudly, wielding a stick, and clamoring, "Kill them, kill them!" Yet, despite the noise, he honestly retreated to the back, refusing to join the fight. Fooling around in front of Zhang Yi, he had truly underestimated others' intelligence.

Protesting, Xu Hao argued, "Is that my fault? There were only four of them, and it was too crowded to get a chance to go up."

Zhang Yi stated coldly, "That's not my concern. I don't care about the process; I only care about the results."

Frustrated, Xu Hao couldn't accept this. "Unfair! This is too unfair! You're clearly targeting me!"

Zhang Yi gave a contemptuous smile. "Fairness? Have you misunderstood something?"

"What are you? Do you even have the right to discuss fairness with me? Do you really think I'm reasoning with you?"

"I am ordering you to obey my commands! Understand, you waste?"

Zhang Yi glanced at Li Chengbin and Jiang Lei, who had become his loyal lackeys. With a command from Zhang Yi, the two placed their food on the ground and proceeded to viciously beat Xu Hao.

Initially, Xu Hao wanted to argue, but as a fierce punch landed on his stomach, his entire body spasmed. In this apocalyptic world, someone still thinking about reasoning was undoubtedly a true fool. There was no need for excessive words; punishment with fists sufficed.

After being beaten for quite some time, Xu Hao was left gasping for breath. Only then did Zhang Yi signal Li Chengbin and Jiang Lei to stop.

Although Xu Hao was a waste, he could still serve as cannon fodder when armed. Pointing at Xu Hao, Zhang Yi addressed the crowd, "This is the consequence of disobeying the leader's orders!"

"Don't accuse me of being overbearing. I am exceptionally fair. If anyone here thinks I'm overbearing, you can now drop the food in your hands and leave with dignity. I won't trouble you in any way!"

The neighbors glanced at each other, and not a single person stepped forward. Jokingly, their food was their lifeline; how could they part with it?

Zhang Yi nodded approvingly. "Very well, then we've reached a consensus."

Approaching Xu Hao, now curled into a shrimp-like form due to the beating, Zhang Yi's eyes were indifferent. He mercilessly stomped on Xu Hao's hand.

Wearing snow boots with rugged soles, Zhang Yi's foot crushed Xu Hao's hand, stripping off a layer of skin and flesh, causing blood to flow freely.

"Ah!!!"

Xu Hao screamed in agony, involuntarily releasing his grip on the candy.

Kicking the candy away, Zhang Yi, with a cold gaze, uttered, "Next time, hope you'll be more obedient. I, Zhang Yi, don't raise wastes!"

After this display of authority, everyone became docile. They obediently awaited Zhang Yi to distribute their rations, and no one dared to voice objections. Soon, Zhang Yi finished the allocation, leaving only a few individuals without any food.
