Chapter 22: Not a Monster

In fact, the king didn't look really happy with his ability. The paintings appeared as if they were saying that he buried himself there, far away from his people, in order to keep them safe. Below one of his painting was a quote that I had hear not so long ago, "One sacrifice is worth saving millions".

With one last blow with his gun, the tomb opened, revealing a skeleton, dressed in a Sokutai. His face was still in a normal shape. It didn't look decayed. But it lasted for only a few seconds. Right when we were about to take a closer look, he opened his eyes, making us flinch. His eyes were dark and hollow.

The darkness in his eyes, spread towards his face, decaying it. Richard was about to remove him from the tomb.

Scarlett: WAIT! He was sacrificing himself. Look at the paintings. He killed himself to save this world. He didn't have superpowers. It is a disease. So if you take him out now, his death would be meaningless. His sacrifice would be for nothing.

Richard: Oh Princess, don't tell me your defending some old king that died centuries ago. He would have died anyway so what's the big deal?

He went to take the king out again, but this time, the king quickly sat upright making us flinch again.

Felix: I'm starting to think this king is still alive.

Richard: He isn't alive. Look inside the tomb. There are mechanisms. I just need to take a small piece of you.

Suddenly I remember about the rumor that the king must be from the other world. It might mean that he was the first to cross and come here. The travel from the other world to this world must have caused this disease to occur. I lean into Daniel and whisper.

Scarlett: Something tells me that the only way I could get home, is to destroy the remains of the king. It might be the only way considering he was that first to go through the portal.

Felix laid Charlotte down and asked me to sit with her. I didn't know why but I had a feeling they were onto something. Putting plastic gloves on, Richard took a cutting plier, cut the king's finger and put it in a plastic zipper bag. Right then, Felix pounces onto Richard and tries to prevent him from getting out.

Daniel takes one of Richard's guns and starts smashing the skeleton. I joined him, trying hard to break it, but then remembered that we will need one part of his body to rebuild the portal. Snapping a finger off, we tried destroying the rest. However, we didn't realize that Richard was overpowering Felix.

Felix got shot in the leg and now wasn't able to walk properly. The gunshot made us turn around. Understanding the situation, Daniel runs towards Richard, trying to hold him back, while I tried to smash the rest of the king's remains. It was as if his body was made of stone. They wouldn't seem to break off easily.
