Wei Ruo and Wei Jinyi walked out together, hand in hand, past the road under construction where laborers hired by Wei Ruo were busily preparing and leveling the ground.
Then, they passed by the renovated orphanage, where the voices of children playing could be heard from within.
At the end of the street, a workshop was under construction. Wei Ruo said it would be used for steelmaking in the future. She had similar workshops in Huzhou Prefecture and the Capital City, and now planned to build a larger one in Jiliao City.
Beyond the city, the two walked on the field ridges, taking in the sight of lush green paddy fields and thriving potato plants.
Nowadays, the people were planting potatoes following Wei Ruo's lead, but she herself had reserved a piece of land for growing rice.
She wanted to try growing her late rice variety on this black soil, unsure whether it could adapt to the local climate.
If it could adapt, it would mean she could continue to grow rice here in the future.
