Thus, all the corpses were sent to the location Funan had designated.
"What are you doing?" someone asked.
"I'm about to perform some evil human experiments. What, is that a problem?"
Funan replied nonchalantly to the bewildered man.
The man was stunned speechless.
Better not ask anything.
Otherwise, knowing too much might just get you killed.
With that understanding, everyone diligently delivered the corpses.
Of course, bodies from Konoha, Sunagakure, and Kirigakure were excluded.
Even so, the number of corpses was staggering.
Every day, massive piles of them were transported over.
Now, Funan stood atop a mountain of corpses, tens of meters high.
He smiled slightly as strands of blood-red energy began to spread outward.
Wherever that aura touched, the corpses immediately shriveled, eventually turning into withered skeletons.
He thoroughly enjoyed the process.
Watching the fruits on the God Tree within his body grow larger and more potent each day filled him with genuine joy.
Before long, the massive corpse mountain had been completely devoured.
The ocular power fruit on Funan's internal God Tree had already advanced to the fourth level.
"More! I need more..."
Funan muttered feverishly.
"Just a few more rounds like this, and my power will surpass even the Sage of Six Paths. As for the Ōtsutsuki clan? They're nothing special! Honestly, I'm really looking forward to their arrival."
Suddenly—
A thought struck Funan.
If White Zetsu could grant him such a massive boost...
Then what about members of the Ōtsutsuki clan themselves?
If he devoured them, how much more powerful could he become?
Especially Kaguya!
The temptation between two God Trees would surely be overwhelming.
White Zetsu was merely a fragment of a God Tree, and it had already brought Funan incredible benefits.
If he devoured an entire God Tree...
Funan quickly shook his head.
No!
He couldn't let himself think like that!
Had he been devouring too much lately?
Had the rapid surge in power already started affecting his mind?
He had actually entertained the idea of swallowing Kaguya!
"I need to slow down..."
Funan muttered to himself.
He had never had such thoughts before.
And now?
He even found himself wondering how much life force he could extract by devouring Konoha's shinobi.
He had even thought about devouring Yako!
Absolutely not!
He couldn't even think about it—he was definitely being influenced.
"Am I close to losing myself in power?"
Funan glanced at the endless stream of corpses being transported over and muttered, "I can still absorb them... but I'll hold off on consuming the fruits for now. I'll wait until I've adjusted before devouring them."
After thinking it through, Funan split off a level-one fruit and summoned the One-Tail.
Before the One-Tail could even react, he slammed the fruit into its body.
It couldn't be administered orally!
If Kaguya caught even a whiff of something suspicious, it would be a huge headache.
No matter how confident Funan was in his strength compared to Kaguya's,
she was still the ancestor of all shinobi.
[Whir!]
The One-Tail's size suddenly expanded dramatically.
Its aura grew much more powerful too.
"Done."
Funan waved his hand and sealed the One-Tail away again.
Meanwhile, the Nine-Tails, hidden within Funan's body, was completely speechless.
It had just widened its eyes, hoping to catch a glimpse of Funan's secrets—only to witness the tragic fate of the One-Tail instead.
Even the Nine-Tails couldn't help but think to itself at that moment:
Poor kid!
The One-Tail was truly unlucky to have crossed paths with Funan.
"Hey, Funan!"
As Funan prepared to return the One-Tail to Kaguya, the Nine-Tails, deep inside Funan's body, couldn't help but call out to him.
"What is it?"
"Don't forget the promise you made to me," the Nine-Tails said in a low voice.
Although it was the half of the Nine-Tails sealed inside Minato, it possessed part of the memories from the other half that had been inside Naruto.
Funan had made sure of that.
The half of the Nine-Tails inside Naruto, after reaching an agreement with Funan, had transferred a portion of its memories through chakra and entrusted Funan to pass them on to the other half.
The Nine-Tails knew of Funan's plans.
When Funan had extracted the half of the Nine-Tails from Minato's body, he had injected those memories into it.
A deal was a deal—Funan intended to honor it.
"Relax," Funan said after a slight pause. "Of course I remember. I promised to grant you freedom."
"The Yang half of me is still inside Kaguya," the Nine-Tails said darkly.
"That's not a big deal," Funan replied casually. "I'm continuously strengthening the tailed beasts' powers. After a few more rounds of strengthening, I'll negotiate with Kaguya to release that half of you."
The Yin Nine-Tails was momentarily stunned.
"Will that even work?"
After all, Kaguya had only just strengthened her forces, and now Funan was suggesting she give up half of a Nine-Tails?
Would she really agree?
Even with only half its power, the Nine-Tails remained the strongest among all the tailed beasts.
"Is she willing? Or unwilling?"
Funan chuckled and said, "Does she even have a choice in the matter?"
"To put it simply—it's not up to her!"
"If she behaves, she'll meet a good end. If not, then she'll be buried. I'm not like the Sage of Six Paths—I won't grant her the mercy of a sealing."
"I'll simply let her sleep forever."
Kurama fell silent.
Sigh...
Letting out a silent sigh, the Nine-Tails lay back down inside Funan's internal space.
If he couldn't resist, all he could do was wait.
Wait for Funan to fulfill his promise.
Wait for Funan's decision.
Until then, he'd obediently fulfill his role as a tool beast.
Funan paid no mind to Kurama's thoughts.
Given his current power, there was no need to care.
If the Nine-Tails refused to obey, he could be discarded at any time.
...
[Whoosh!]
Kaguya's body suddenly sprouted countless tendrils, grabbing the dazed One-Tail and dragging it back into her body.
What's happening?
Did I get out?
Am I already back in?
What happened in between?
What did these people do to me?
"How is it?" Funan asked with a beaming smile.
"The strength has indeed improved," Kaguya nodded frankly. "But, Uchiha Funan, isn't this progress a little too slow? At this rate, how long will it take for me to reach my peak?"
"No need to rush," Funan replied with a smile. "Power doesn't grow overnight. The early stages are always the hardest."
"Now that White Zetsu can already be mass-produced, are you still worried that your strength will always grow this slowly? I promise you, the next improvement will come at double the speed."
Hearing this, Kaguya finally looked satisfied.
"By the way, let's add something to our deal—regarding the Nine-Tails," Funan suddenly said. "If I boost your power to a level you're satisfied with, you must return the Nine-Tails to me."
The smile that had just appeared on Kaguya's face instantly froze. "You enhance my power just a little bit, and you want to take away that much power in return?"
"Heh. Trust me, Princess Kaguya," Funan said calmly. "A deal with me will never leave you shortchanged."
"How about this—I'll give you the power equivalent to two Nine-Tails."
Kaguya frowned slightly. "You're proposing to trade two shares of the Nine-Tails's power for one share?"
"Exactly," Funan nodded, speaking coolly. "In the past, I made a deal with the Nine-Tails—I promised to grant it freedom."
"Fine," Kaguya thought for a moment before agreeing. "If you give me the power of two Kuramas, I'll release one share of Nine-Tails. When you deliver two shares, the Nine-Tails will be completely freed."
"Deal."
Funan smiled lightly, just about to speak again, when Yako rushed over in a hurry.
Funan's eyes narrowed.
Ever since the end of the Shinobi World War, it was rare to see Yako so tense.
"What happened?"
"There's trouble!"
"Trouble?" Funan was surprised.
After he had won the war, there were still people in the shinobi world bold enough to cause trouble?
Have they grown tired of living?
Are they so desperate to die?
"Who are they?" Funan asked with interest. "It must be serious if you're this worked up."
"Exactly."
Yako's expression was grave. "They're remnants from Iwagakure and Kumogakure. Not only have they experienced a ridiculous surge in strength, but they're also heavily armed. Moreover, they seem to know a lot—things like our military deployments and the locations of our secret laboratories."
Funan said, "So there's a traitor?"
"Most likely. And it's probably someone with a fairly high position," Yako said, frowning. "Hokage-sama, you've already conquered the entire shinobi world. Why would something like this happen now?"
Funan fell into deep thought.
The remnants of Iwagakure and Kumogakure weren't a big deal. They had always been lurking around.
There would always be some who couldn't accept defeat.
However—
For problems to arise within Konoha itself—that was far more interesting.
Funan had considerable confidence in his own internal affairs.
And—
Why now of all times?
Not during the war, not after the war—only now do they appear?
What's the meaning behind this timing?
The war is over—and only now do you dare show yourselves?
Why not during the height of the fighting?
Plus, the fact that they knew about both the military deployments and the secret labs—
Those were two entirely separate departments.
Among Funan's subordinates, the number of people who knew both sets of information could be counted on one hand.
To be direct, it was likely limited to only Yako and a few secretaries.
Could they really have been compromised?
And considering that those remnants had shown an exaggerated increase in strength—
No, using Yako's words, it was an 'outrageous' surge—
Funan suddenly thought of someone.
The Sage of Six Paths!
Could that old bastard have finally lost patience?
Was he finally making a move?
