The Bells

The next day, the sky was still covered with sculpted clouds, but the police had arrived at the house of the boy who had stolen his cell phone and went straight into interrogation.

"Don't lie to us; we found you with the stolen cell phone used for the extortion call. Are you aware that someone almost died because you stole their phone?" Wayne, without caring that he was interrogating a kid, was harsh with his words.

"Due to your age, you would be sent to a correctional facility, but the family of the affected boy is very powerful, and we won't handle your safety. However, as long as you tell us what we want to know, they won't seek revenge on a regrettable student who made a foolish mistake."

Marcus, the boy who had stolen the phone, said, "An old man approached me, asking me to steal a cell phone from his daughter. I just did it, but I never thought that old man had anything to do with the phone duel."

"Do you know who asked you to steal the cell phone?" Maggie furrowed her brows slightly.

"I heard someone call him Sensei Kresse; he should be a Cobra Kai teacher." Wayne looked at Maggie, and both nodded, knowing they had found the man.

...

When Dash opened his eyes, it was too late. He felt a numb sensation and intense pain all over his body. It was the first time he felt so badly injured; after all, he hadn't been attacked with bare hands.

"Die, cursed dinosaur..."

The moment Dash heard that, he slightly moved his head to the left and saw Devon playing beside him, insulting a dinosaur.

Seeing that she was okay was all that mattered to Dash. He knew he had acted recklessly, but at that moment, he believed she was in danger, so all he did was run to the place he had been called to.

Looking at all the bandages on his body, Dash sighed, wondering how bad he was to barely be able to move. This time, he definitely doubted he could participate in the tournament that would take place in a month.

"You're terrible at that game, and you still play it. Don't you remember that you always needed me to win a match?" Dash spoke in a low tone as he saw Devon being eliminated by a dinosaur with a skirt.

When Devon heard Dash's voice, she turned around, and upon seeing him awake, she quickly searched for a button on the bed, pressed it, and said, "It's a shame you're so badly injured; otherwise, I would have given you a beating."

"How bad am I?" Dash asked, understanding what Devon meant at this moment.

"Let me ask you one thing: why were you so foolish? You're smarter than those idiots who deceived you. How could you not have noticed?" Devon asked, slightly confused.

Dash remained silent for a few seconds and said, "I thought you were in danger."

"And because of that, you put yourself in danger? You should have called the police!" Devon said, tears inevitably streaming from her eyes.

Seeing Devon in this state, Dash, who had been beaten, felt a little bad and said, "But I'm not that bad. Can't you see I'm perfectly fine?"

"You have some injuries to your ribs; you were occasionally cut with a sharp weapon, so you lost a considerable amount of blood in your transfer from the place to here. Do you know you could have died?" Devon hated it most when people got hurt because of her.

She didn't want to be protected by Dash; she had always made it clear that she hated that. All this time, Devon had degraded being strong enough not to depend on Dash and, instead, be a capable girlfriend for him.

But when she realized that Dash had been injured when he was trying to save her from a fake kidnapping, she felt a deep sorrow, knowing how foolish her boyfriend could be.

"Don't cry; the doctors are coming, so behave," Dash said, joking a bit, but the pain in his body didn't allow much.

When the doctors arrived, they raised the bed so that Dash was in a more upright position and began to examine him in general. In this process, he answered simple and more complex questions, all to find out if he had any complications due to the blow to his head.

"You were lucky to have received first aid in such an effective way. As your doctor, I recommend you rest and place ice packs on your injured ribs."

"Are any of them broken?"

"Fortunately, none are broken; you'll recover faster than expected," said the doctor as he performed some more checks and left the room.

Devon, who was by his side, didn't stop holding his hand, to which Dash said, "I didn't think I'd have such a clingy girlfriend; I'm considering getting injured in tournaments so you'll be more affectionate with your awesome boyfriend."

"If you keep making jokes about it, I'll end up breaking your ribs with a kick." Devon was relieved that Dash was okay, so after a few jokes, they began to talk about what had really happened.

Dash smiled in pain. There were things he wanted to improve, but he felt satisfied with everything he had achieved.
