At the break of dawn, Su Yuxin found herself despondent.
Ah, perhaps not exactly the break of dawn.
It was already mid-morning.
Seated upon her bed, she languished under the covers.
Last night, she was eager to exhibit her prowess before Feng Yao early this morning.
However, when she opened her eyes this morning, she found herself alone in bed.
Where was her promised help in dressing her husband? Where was the pursuit of becoming an exceptional general's wife?
She hadn't a clue when her husband had departed.
Continuing to tug at the covers, Su Yuxin felt thoroughly discontented.
It was all because of that wretched Black Owl. Last night, for reasons unknown, it screeched relentlessly, even the General's intervention was futile.
It continued until nearly daybreak.
Finally, when it stopped, she drifted off into a daze.
And now, upon waking, here she was.
Su Yuxin hadn't summoned anyone upon awakening. She merely sat there, stewing, pulling at the covers intermittently.
Even the fine Su embroidery on the bedsheet was disheveled by Su Yuxin's fiddling.
It wasn't until later when Qingque came in that she realized Su Yuxin had already awakened.
"The Madam is up, why didn't you summon us?" Qingque approached, lifting the gauze curtain, smiling warmly.
"Where is the General? Has he gone to the barracks?" Su Yuxin raised her head, pouting as she inquired.
"He has gone to the morning court," Qingque replied. Seeing Su Yuxin's melancholic expression, she expressed concern, "Madam, have you not had enough rest? Should you return to sleep for a while? The General specifically instructed us not to disturb you when he departed."
"Morning court?" Su Yuxin blinked. So the General had left early? Surely, he hadn't rested well.
Thinking this, Su Yuxin felt an inexplicable pang.
All because of the Black Owl.
If it screeches again tonight, it will be skinned and cooked for dinner.
Hmph!
"Indeed," Qingque nodded, glancing at the hour clock on the wall. "At this hour, he should be returning soon."
As she spoke, a maid outside announced herself.
Shortly after, the tall figure of Feng Yao walked in from outside.
"The General has returned," Su Yuxin, abandoning her earlier melancholy, lifted the covers and swiftly put on her shoes, clad only in her underclothes.
"Have you rested?" Feng Yao caught the hurrying Su Yuxin, lifting a hand to tap her nose lightly.
"Yes," Su Yuxin nodded absently, her fingers secretly fiddling with Feng Yao's belt.
Having mastered this skill the day before, Su Yuxin easily undid it.
Then, taking advantage of the position leaning against Feng Yao's chest, she carefully unfastened his buttons.
And then, as if by accident, she tugged, causing Feng Yao's coat to slide halfway off.
Satisfied, Su Yuxin nodded, beaming with joy.
Now, she could help the General change his clothes.
"Oh my, how did the General's clothes come loose? Let me help..." Su Yuxin's words weren't completed before Feng Yao horizontally scooped her up, swiftly striding toward the bed.
Before Su Yuxin could fully react, she found herself pinned down under him, his fervent kisses raining down densely upon her.
This continued for a whole hour.
Su Yuxin didn't even want to move a finger anymore.
Meanwhile, Feng Yao remained spirited, even more radiant than before, looking completely content.
Su Yuxin nibbled at her finger, unable to understand.
She only wanted to assist the General in changing clothes. How did it escalate into this?
Observing Su Yuxin's tired and helpless appearance, Feng Yao felt amused yet pained.
Leaning down, he planted a kiss on Su Yuxin's forehead, his voice carrying a husky tone, "Exhausted, aren't you?"
Upon hearing this, Su Yuxin shot him a sideways glance.
Wasn't this question obvious?
Then, a rumble emanated from Su Yuxin's stomach.
Her cheeks flushed.
It wasn't her fault.
She hadn't even eaten breakfast yet, and she was already embroiled in an intense, protracted fight against a spirited demon.
Feeling somewhat remorseful, Feng Yao hurriedly instructed Qingque to fetch food.
He had reflected on these instances before, swearing to be more restrained next time.
But whenever he was with Yuxin, his self-control seemed to flee, an unbridled force he couldn't rein in.
Moreover, the little lass willingly helped him undress. He couldn't just disregard her kindness.
Feng Yao first tidied himself and then helped Su Yuxin clean up and dress.
Puckering her lips, Su Yuxin felt utterly disheartened.
It was meant to be helping her husband change clothes, yet it ended up in naught.
And now she was fatigued and achy.
Qingque soon brought lunch and arranged it in the outer room.
Feng Yao carried Su Yuxin over.
Though feeling somewhat embarrassed, Su Yuxin didn't refuse.
Her legs were as wobbly as a curtain; she would have surely stumbled if she tried to walk.
Throughout the meal, Feng Yao fed Su Yuxin various dishes until she was full, then he began eating himself.
After lunch, Su Yuxin felt her slightly bloated stomach and desired to walk it off.
However, she was too tired and drowsy; all she wanted was to sleep.
Before Feng Yao could carry her back to bed, she had already fallen asleep.
Having had a restless night previously and enduring a high-intensity battle today, she couldn't muster any more strength.
When Su Yuxin awoke again, darkness had enveloped the outside world.
Su Yuxin stared blankly at the canopy above.
She had passed this day so quickly.
One blink, another blink, and then... it was evening.
"Awake?" Feng Yao gently flicked her small nose, his expression a mix of indulgence and warmth. "It's time for dinner."
The corner of Su Yuxin's mouth twitched involuntarily.
Waking up to eat, eating and then sleeping, waking up to eat again... why did she feel somewhat porcine?
"What are you daydreaming about?" Feng Yao leaned over, pinching Su Yuxin's fair cheeks, saying, "Weren't you looking for female guards proficient in martial arts? Once you've finished dinner, they should be here."
"Really?" Su Yuxin instantly perked up.
"Of course," Feng Yao pinched her nose, pulling her up and helping her dress again.
Observing Feng Yao's deft movements, Su Yuxin couldn't help but wonder if the General had helped other women dress in the past.
Otherwise, why was he so skilled?
"Only you," Feng Yao held Su Yuxin's hand, suddenly speaking earnestly.
"Huh?" Su Yuxin stared at Feng Yao in bewilderment.
"I have only dressed one person before, and that's you," Feng Yao brought Su Y
uxin's hand close to his lips, smiling softly.
Su Yuxin's eyes widened instantly.
Could the General read minds? How did he know when she hadn't said anything?
"You're a little silly," Seeing Su Yuxin's incredulous expression, Feng Yao's lips unconsciously curved upwards.
"Don't keep calling me silly," Su Yuxin immediately pouted, protesting, "I'm not smart to begin with. What if you keep calling me silly, and it becomes true?"
"It won't," Feng Yao held Su Yuxin's hand, walking out, speaking in a gentle tone, "In my heart, you are the cleverest, without a doubt."
"Really?" Su Yuxin's eyes and brows immediately curved upwards; she felt immensely delighted.
She was aware of her abilities; she knew herself inside out. But being praised by her husband in such a manner truly made her happy.
