Chapter 11: Use would in a sentence, Teacher!

It's the middle of the class.

First subject: English.

The topic is about using should, would, and could. Basic grammar, to be exact. Mei Shimizu is our teacher in all of our subjects. My classmates call her a genius because she can teach all of those subjects flawlessly.

"Who can tell me the differences between should, would, and could?" asked Mei Shimizu.

Once she asked her question, I immediately raised my hand to answer the question. Mei Shimizu looked into my eyes, having a blank expression on her face. She turned her eyes away from mine and looked at my classmates.

"Any other hands?" asked Mei Shimizu.

She ignored me. Yep, she's definitely mad. Why is she mad? She's not even my girlfriend. Wait, is she even mad? What's the point of getting mad over tha—well I suppose she has the right to be mad. In her point of view, she witnessed a guy who might be having intercourse with a woman while talking to her on the phone. Curse you, sister!

Tanaka, who's sitting beside me, raised his hand. I was a bit shocked because, for the whole past week, he didn't raise his hand at all. Is he changing?

"Tanaka-kun," said Mei Shimizu.

After being called, Tanaka slowly stood up from his chair. His body is standing straight, and you can feel the confidence in his face. He is wearing a serious expression, which I don't see very often. Oops, that's a little rude. It's just not every day that I see him answer.

"Could indicates past tense and capacity or possibility, while would indicates intention, choice, or request. Lastly, should is the strongest of the three and indicates obligation or requirement," said Tanaka.

"That's correct. Everyone, kindly give Tanaka-kun a round of applause," said Mei Shimizu.

Following the order of Mei Shimizu. My classmates simultaneously clapped their hands, giving him a round of applause. Tanaka-kun bashfully scratched his head and took a seat. He turned his eyes in my direction, and he could see the way I was clapping my hands.

"Why are you clapping?" asked Tanaka.

"It's unusual for you to answer. So I'm just proud," I said.

"I just don't like standing out," said Tanaka.

Even though Tanaka is hated by the girls, the guys in our room like to be around him. Tanaka is a gamer, and that aspect of his makes him popular with the guys. That's not what he wants, though.

I turned my head to the front and listened to Mei Shimizu's lecture. She's explaining the lesson clearly and making it easier to understand. Even though I already studied what she's talking about, I can still get why they think of her as a wonderful teacher. Her lessons are easy to understand, and I'm sure that if I didn't study in advance, I'd still understand what she's talking about.

"Takahashi-kun, will you give us an example of using 'would' in a sentence?" asked Mei Shimizu.

I widened my eyes as I heard my name being called. My classmates turned their heads and looked at me, waiting for me to give an example. I slowly stood up from my chair and looked into Mei Shimizu's eyes directly.

A sentence that uses would. So many possible sentences came out of my head. I have so many options to say to the whole class. Hm, maybe I should say it. Or maybe not. Well, nothing will happen anyway. It's just a sentence.

"Sensei, would you go out with me?" I said in English.

All of my classmates widened their eyes; some even had their jaws wide open. I guess the question is too much for these guys, huh?

The class suddenly screamed out of nowhere, making a noise, and others were looking at Mei Shimizu. She's hiding her face with her class record, as if she's hiding the fact that she's embarrassed. I can also see her ears turning red. Yep, that definitely made an impression.

"Hey, Takahashi. That's illegal," said one of the guys.

"That's right, Takahashi-kun. Sensei might be a teacher, but she's still a teenager. Such words will make her flustered," said one of the girls.

My classmates stated their opinions one after the other. They're mostly focusing on the fact that I shouldn't do it because, even if she's a teacher, she's still a young woman. She's probably been busy pursuing her career as a teacher and hasn't experienced any romance.

"Takahashi, is Shimizu-sensei the girl you were talking about this morning?" asked Tanaka.

"No," I lied.

Accidentally giving information about our relationship is definitely a mistake. The words of her sister, Ai Shimizu, are still repeating over and over in my head.

"A teacher and a student can't have a sexual relationship, even if the two of you are the same age. If the school finds out about this, you'll be in trouble."

However, it seems the other guys are also interested in Mei Shimizu. She has good looks, so it's natural that guys will be attracted to her. Tsk. Hm, wait. Why do I feel annoyed about that?

"Ehem, even if I'm young, I'm still a teacher," said Mei Shimizu.

"Sensei, you're forcing yourself too much," said my girl classmate.

"That's right, sensei. Why don't you answer his confession?" said the male student.

"Sensei, Takahashi-kun has good looks, despite the fact that his personality sucks," said Tanaka.

"Hey!" I screamed.

My classmates laughed at Tanaka's comment, and Mei Shimizu couldn't help but laugh too. Somehow, it's calming to see that smile of hers.

"To be clear, it's not a confession. I just gave an example of how to use 'would' in a sentence," I said.

"Yes, yes. Good example, Takahashi-kun. Please take your seat," said Mei Shimizu.

She said that while having a bright smile on her face. A smile that's making me want to tease her some more. Her reactions toward stuff like this are interesting. She easily gets embarrassed by small things.

"Sensei, could you kindly repeat the example I just gave?" I asked.

"Hm?" wondered Mei Shimizu.

"I'm asking if you could repeat the sentence I just said," I said.

My classmates chuckled lightly and realized immediately what I was trying to do. Mei Shimizu had a confused look on her face for a while. She thought about it, and her eyes widened when she realized what I was going for.

"I see. Well, then Takahashi-kun," said Mei Shimizu.

"Go on," I said.

She closed her eyes and took a breather. She slowly opened it, and her beautiful emerald eyes were gazing straight into mine. Her lips suddenly formed into a smile, and she said the words with an elegant accent coming out of her voice.

"Takahashi-kun, would you go out with me?" said Mei Shimizu.

The class was filled with silence. Their eyes are filled with admiration; in those simple words, she made everyone fall for her. Her voice was soothing and relaxing, like an angel whispering straight into our ears. Even I couldn't help but feel embarrassed by her words.

Mei Shimizu is still gazing into my eyes with hers. It's so beautiful. I bashfully turned my head away from looking at her and slowly sat down. The class still remains quiet; they're still in the middle of admiring the beautiful teacher in front of them.

"Okay, let's continue," said Mei Shimizu.

The class doesn't know how to react. All of us are in the middle of shock. It's probably not an exaggeration if I say that even the girls fell for her.

"Takahashi," said Tanaka.

"What?" I asked.

"You're bright red," said Tanaka.

I immediately covered my face with my notebook, and Tanaka laughed at my reaction. I slowly looked at the chalkboard, and I could see Mei Shimizu facing the chalkboard and writing the topic. I slowly turned my eyes into her ears, and I could see that her ears were bright red.

"I see, so I'm not the only one," I muttered.

She's also embarrassed.
