"So what's the actual reason you called us here?" I asked.
Ai Shimizu looked at me when I asked the question. If she's here, I could guess that this is about the novel material that she wants so badly.
"Uh, about that... Well... um..." hesitated Mei Shimizu.
"She agreed about the two of you pretending about going out," bluntly said Ai Shimizu.
"Ah! Ai!" screamed Mei Shimizu.
She grabbed the collar of Ai Shimizu's uniform and shaken her around back and forth. Meanwhile, Ai Shimizu has her face turned in the opposite direction, acting like she doesn't care about it at all.
"You agreed? You want to be in a relationship with me that bad?" I teased.
"Of course not!" screamed Mei Shimizu.
Oh, come on. Based on my looks alone, it's clear that she has the advantage if both of us agree on this. Not to mention the grades I have are top-notch. It's not easy to beat.
"If only I had enough money..." muttered Mei Shimizu.
Huh?
"Hey, Sister. Your real intent is coming out," said Ai Shimizu.
"Ah!" muttered Mei Shimizu.
She reflexively covered her mouth using both of her hands. Wait, did I hear that right? Money? Money is the reason she agreed?!
"You got bribed by money?" I asked with clear disgust in my voice.
"See?" said Ai Shimizu.
"I can explain!" screamed Mei Shimizu while waving both of her hands forward.
"Are you the type of woman that will do anything for money? Ugh, what a dark future ahead of you. Ugh, poor Shimizu family," I said with pain in my voice.
"Uwah, he's clearly looking down on you now," teased Ai Shimizu.
"I told you! I have an explanation for this!" screamed Mei Shimizu.
I slowly turned my eyes into her face without changing the disgust expression. How much money does she want that she decided to agree to this ridiculous condition?
"Here!" said Mei Shimizu.
She gave me her phone and showed me an auction bid that was for two books. My eyes suddenly got bored with the books that were on the phone.
"De revolutionibus orbium coelestium by Copernicus and Sidereus Nuncius by Galileo Galilei," I said.
"Correct," said Mei Shimizu.
I sighed at the sight of her. I know she's crazy when it comes to books, but it's much crazier than that. She wants to obtain the original copy. I sighed again. Just thinking about it makes my head hurt.
"I can lend you a copy at my house if you want it that bad," I said.
"I don't want a copy; I want the original," said Mei Shimizu.
"You stubborn little..." I muttered.
Those kinds of books will cost around 500,000 yen! Is she serious?! Those are also original copies! It's much better to keep it at a museum or with a collector who can actually maintain its quality. This girl will just taint the beautiful creation of Galileo Galilei if she obtains it!
"Those books are much safer to be in the hands of a real adult! If a brat like you gets your hands on them, it will for sure won't last! Those books have an age of centuries, you know?!" I screamed.
"That's why I want it in the first place! I want it!" screamed Mei Shimizu.
"The auction will only start at 500,000 yen. It might reach millions! Don't waste your time with this!" I said.
"Why do you care?! Ai has the money, so she can handle it!" screamed Mei Shimizu.
Ai have that much money? I turned to look at Ai Shimizu, and she gave me an ok using her hand with a smug look on her face. This girl... Is she actually a rich novelist who has multiple hits? She's only 15 years old!
I breathed deeply and slowly turned my head toward Mei Shimizu. She's face is puffing like a pufferfish. It's so funny. It's like she's going to explode any minute now. Once I calmed down, I raised my arm and placed my hand on her shoulders.
"Listen, idiot teacher. Being an adult is something that you don't have yet. Mature a bit, then buy the book. Don't use your sister's money for this," I said.
"No," said Mei Shimizu.
"Hey, come on," I said.
"No," said Mei Shimizu.
There it is. She's pouting again; she even turned her face just to reject my reasoning. How come she wants those books so badly? It's just the same with copy.
This is ridiculous. I thought she called me here to talk about something important. If it's just about her wanting these books for no particular reason, then there's no way I'll agree with this pretend relationship.
"I'm going," I said.
"Ah," muttered Mei Shimizu.
"The two of us going out are unethical. We're at an elite school, you know that. The relationship between a student and teacher is dishonorable," I said.
"Takahashi-kun!" said Mei Shimizu.
"Don't endanger your career because of some book. Grow up," I said.
Without turning back, I opened the door of her office and walked away. I made my way out and headed to the classroom.
.
.
.
Keisuke Takahashi is out of the room. The twin sisters are left with each other.
"He's mad," said Ai Shimizu.
"That's expected, isn't it?" said Mei Shimizu.
"Why would you even lie to him? Just tell him you like him and go out for real," said Ai Shimizu.
"Huh? If I can do that, then I already have!" cried Mei Shimizu.
The conversation drained the energy in Mei Shimizu, so she took a seat in her chair. She placed her shoulders on the table and placed her head down.
"I don't want those original books anyway; I'm satisfied with the copy I have at home," said Mei Shimizu.
"What's with the tantrum, then?" asked Ai Shimizu.
Mei Shimizu slowly tilted her head and fixed her form. She placed her hand on her cheeks while looking away from Ai.
"Yuta called him last night, and when I took the phone, I heard a girl moaning," said Mei Shimizu.
"That's probably her sister," said Ai Shimizu.
"I know. But the idea that it's someone else wouldn't disappear from my mind!" screamed Mei Shimizu.
Ai Shimizu simply smiled at the reaction of Mei Shimizu.
"Yuta and the other two know the password to your phone. I suggest changing it," said Ai Shimizu.
"I already did," said Mei Shimizu.
Mei Shimizu pulled out her phone and opened it. She clicked the home button and went to the gallery app. She scrolled around until she found the picture that she took with Keisuke Takahashi. Once she opened it, she smiled, admiring and remembering the time they had together.
"He's so rude, though," said Ai Shimizu.
"Right? He's been so cold towards me the first day," said Mei Shimizu.
"You approached him?" asked Ai Shimizu.
"Yeah, I was quite surprised to see him. He's so rude, and he thought I was just cosplaying," said Mei Shimizu.
"I see," said Ai Shimizu.
Mei Shimizu's smile slowly faded away. She scrolled on her phone, looking for a picture that's much older.
"It's too bad that he doesn't remember me," said Mei Shimizu.
Ai Shimizu just looked at her sister and didn't say any words to comfort her. Ai Shimizu is supportive of their relationship, but she still thinks that a relationship between a student and a teacher is immoral.
"If you didn't become a teacher so fast, maybe you might even become his girlfriend as a student," said Ai Shimizu.
"But that kills the promise that we made, right?" said Mei Shimizu.
"Promises are meant to be broken," said Ai Shimizu.
"That's not true," said Mei Shimizu.
The two sisters looked at each other and laughed in sync. Chatting in her office, the two had a great time just talking about Keisuke Takahashi.
"I hope he at least explained that moaning, though," muttered Mei Shimizu.
