Shouldn't He Have Already Died?

After taking off his reading glasses, Calix pinched the space between his eyebrows. He let out a deep sigh, driven by his exhaustion.

The clock pointed to a quarter before one in the morning. A comforting silence shrouded the entire manor as most people were already sleeping save for Calix. He stayed up to finish some of his work.

"Time for bed, I guess."

Calix stood up, pushing the swivel chair backward. He did a couple of stretches to alleviate the numbness after sitting for too long. The work desk was still messy from the laptop, piles of papers and pens.

'They should be sleeping already, en?'

Calix's mind wandered to Leslie and Calliope. The little dumpling fell asleep not long after taking a bath. As requested, she slept in Leslie's chamber instead of her own princess bedroom.
