Big Splash

"IT'S RAINING!" May bellows out, throwing open the inn's shuttered window to show the landscape blanketed in heavy gray clouds.

I recognize immediately why she's so excited about the rain.

It means the mud is plentiful, and she'll have her puddles to splash in.

I don't understand it, but I'll humor her.

I tilt my head curiously to her as she jumps and wiggles excitedly in the spot she's standing on.

Truth be told, I can't blame her.

This is a long trip for a child like May, and she has barely had any time to play or act like the child she is since we've started.

Annoying though it might be that we're stranded in this town until the roads are safe again, it's a boom for May. Even if the trip is longer, May getting the opportunity to play will no doubt help her.

"It sure is raining." I say without emotion.

"Does that mean I can play in the puddle!? The BIG one!?" May is positively glowing as she poses the question.
