The Mortal Elixir

Ava thought about what Adrian had said about the elixir, why did not Ava hear about it in her four hundred years of life? Was it because it was all a myth? Or because it was true! It was three a.m, and Ava could not sleep. her heart was restless thinking of the possibilities, she needed to discover the truth now, she did not want to wait till sun is up.

Vampires are not harmed of sunlight. But as their eyesight are better and focused in darkness, they prefer to roam the city at dark, or wear a sunglass at daytime. But there was a myth about a factor of vampires being cursed against roaming the lands of daylight. But in her four hundred years, Ava had not met one. Maybe it was a myth too, thought Ava.

She dressed up and taking all that is needed, Ava took her car keys. Ember was sleep talking but did not wake up as she was exhausted from the evening skit.

Ava entered the city library which was open twenty four hours. Ava was not surprised to see few people still scrolling through the books at this hour. The library had three librarians, and one was an old witch, who Ava knew.

"Hello Ara!", greeted Ava.

"Hello Ava", Aradia greeted back, "what a pleasant surprise? I have not seen you in ages!". Ava nodded, it was true, Ava had been here after a very long time. As vampire's don't age and they look the same throughout the century, they don't visit the same city they lived for a very long time. The chances of people recognizing her are less and will automatically assume they are the immediate relative of the prior.

"I came looking for some information on a 'tonic '", Ava said with cautious as other two librarians were in the in the vicinity. Aradia nodded.

"Tonics and potions for all types of disease can be found in the herbal treatment", said Aradia walking away from the counter and taking Ava from the librarians earshot, "come I'll find you what you are looking for".

Ava followed Aradia and entered the restricted area, which was only accessible by the library staff. The two librarians looked at each other.

"You bet she is also a witch like Ara?"

"Nah! She has a smaller nose to be a witch", replied the other giggling.

Have you heard about Luminaflux elixir?", asked Ava when they were inside the room. Arcadia looked at her in surprise.

"Of course, I know!", she replied, "they are the finest potions ever made on this earth".

"Why have I not heard of it before?", she asked, "if it promised to give you mortality, why is no one after it".

"You know it is a dangerous, right?", Aradia looked intently at Ava, "they will require sacrifices and, moreover, know one knows where it is". Ava started pacing along the room, she was getting excited, lively again to be precise. She had been this excited ages ago, she can even vaguely remember. She stopped pacing and sat next to Aradia.

"It's a potion", she said excitedly, for which Aradia nodded, vaguely understanding where her mind is going, "so you can make it?"

Arcadia laughed out loud, and remembering they are in the library, calmed down. "This potion is ancient, even before your clan and our clan came into existence. No one knows it's origin, or what properties used in them".

Arcadia stood up, "many witches and wizards sacrificed their whole life to create it's replica, but no one succeeded", Aradia had a distant look on her face, "moreover, all witches and wizards are sworn against creating one, for it is life consuming, and a perilous".

Ava was disappointed, but she was not willing to sacrifice her friend's life for a elixir that is more of a myth. Arcadia left Ava and vanished inside the bookshelves. She came back with an old book and a scroll.

"These are the ancient writings of the Luminaflux elixir that stays between the myth and the reality of the elixir", she gave them to Ava, "read them and see if you can get any useful information. Though location of the elixir is blurred, try if you are lucky".

Ava felt delighted once again, there lies the truth or myth of the elixir in her hands. She was getting nearer to find the truth that can or cannot lead to immortality.

**

The book Aradia gave from five hundred years back. Back when scholars had gone in search of elixir and the translated hundreds of scrolls on elixir and it's whereabouts, before that time.

The scroll Aradia gave was fragile and old as time itself. Ava assessed it to be more than thousand years old. She used gloves and magnifying glasses to read them. She copied them on a notebook, as the language so hard to understand that she needed to translate into simple english before trying to decipher the meanings behind them.

Ava contacted her few friends who she thought will help her in confidential, and found out few information. Though each had different stories to tell, Ava concluded, that only few have found the Luminaflux elixir and before recording their findings, have gone missing. Something had happened in that period, that most scholars chose to drop their quest and hide all about elixir from the people.

The scholars of that time had gathered and chose to make it difficult for the ones who would go in search of the elixir, created a door. The key was broken into pieces and scattered all around the world. Only few have the knowledge of the whereabouts, and how many pieces the key have been broken into.

It was all getting interesting for Ava, for she loved games that are challenging and can demand more from you. She saw it as a game, she was willing to find out. And as the award she may get the mortality she wanted. Ava wanted it and she will get it.
