The arrival of the Immortals was something people could only wish for, but whether it happened was not up to them.
And now that the Immortals had come to save them, the devotion in the hearts of everyone here was overflowing. They kept kneeling on the ground, not daring to look up.
~shua~
The Immortals seemingly descended and finally landed on the ground. The three of them were about a hundred meters away from Asher and were looking around the area. Their voices were barely audible to the people nearby, but they could still pick out on some words.
"How long do we wait?" The Immortal named Yan asked.
"They should be here soon, Master Yan. While the soldiers in the forests were all wiped out, the Mages should have learned of all that has happened by now." The Other immortal in the white robes spoke.
"I hope you're right, Wu Lei. I don't want to wait around too much." Immortal Yan replied. "Elder has finally assigned me this mission and I want to kill as many demons as I can while I have the chance." The immortal said with excitement in his eyes.
"We'll have plenty of demons to kill, Yan." The female Immortal spoke in a light once. "This is just the first area anyways. There should be more spots of invasion happening." She added.
"That's true Fu Yao." Immortal Yan nodded.
The immortals continued talking while the commoners continued to kneel. They didn't seem to pay much attention to them and were occupied with their own chats.
This was getting problematic for the people though, as they couldn't just keep on kneeling perpetually. Many of them were injured, and doing that was straining them.
Asher was the same, and was trying his best to grit his teeth.
"Ugh… My chest." But after ten minutes had gone by, even he was reaching his limit.
~thud~
His body seemingly gave out and he collapsed. He hadn't passed out though, as the pain wouldn't let him slumber that easily.
"Hm?" Immortal Wu Lei gazed at Asher due to his sound, but only gave him a momentary look before returning to his conversation.
Tess, who had seen Asher collapse, couldn't help but feel relieved that the immortals hadn't taken offense.
'It's good that they are merciful…' Tess thought to herself.
~tremble~
A couple of minutes later though, the sound of tens of pairs of hooves trampling the ground could be heard.
"The Knights! The Lord's knights are here!" Some survivors in the distance saw the people riding on horseback and shouted in excitement.
The knights were wearing full body armor which had the crest of the local Lord which was that of a Sparrow with one of its wings raised.
But it wasn't just knights that were present on horseback, a few carriages were also being pulled by them at the back. The carriage looked to be of a rather good quality and it was clear that whoever was riding in it was not of a low status.
Though one carriage among them was different. It was made entirely out of steel and only had a few slits as openings in it. It was easy to tell that this was a carriage made to imprison people.
"There they are." Immortal Wu Lei said spotting the Knight Squadron.
"Hmm… The Mages are weaker than I expected." Immortal Yan said, looking at the carriages. "Barely three star ranked."
"It would be rare for us to find strong Mages in a place like this Yan. Even Four star Mages are a rarity here. Though these ones will be enough for the work here." Immortal Fu Yao said.
"Let's see if they are worth anything. I want to be done with this place and move on." Immortal Yan said feeling a bit impatient.
"Halt!" The knight leading the squadron said out loud causing everyone to stop.
~CLANK~
His armor clattered as he got down from his horse before kneeling on one knee.
"Sourcefather Provides! Tidemother guides!" The Knight chanted out loud.
~CLANG~~CLANG~CLANG~
"Sourcefather Provides! Tidemother guides!"
The other knights quickly got down from their horses and chanted too, while kneeling.
"We are immensely honored that the Sacred Immortals have chosen to grace us with their presence." The Leading knight spoke while looking down.
~Creak~
It was at this time that the doors of the carriages opened and several people in robes walked out.
The robes they were wearing were different from the Immortals though. They were wearing mage robes!
"We thank the sacred immortals for their divine intervention. If not for you, the people here shall have all perished." An old mage with short white hair spoke with reverence.
He was wearing a cap on his head that had a single tassel hanging from the side. His robes were green and black, with a three star motif on the left side of his chest, showing his rank.
The other Mages were wearing similar robes, but their ranks varied. Only two more Mages had three stars on their chest, while the rest were all two star or one star Mages.
The higher their rank, the more complex their robes were with one star Mages having no designs on their robes.
"Rise." Immortal Yan replied, letting the Mages stand.
"Thank you, Lord Immortal." The old mage said. "I am Mage Clor, a Three Star Mage as well as an Elder of the Mage Tower of this region."
"Have you finished your work?" Immortal Yan asked, gazing at the locked steel carriage in the back.
"Of course, Lord Immortal." Mage Clor replied. "We've secured the city and nearby towns before heading here."
"What of the demons?" Immortal Yan questioned. "I have a mission to kill them." He inquired.
"Uhh…" The Mage seemed to be a bit stumped at that. "There weren't that many demons popping up in the city, and the ones near the towns were taken care of by the Knights quickly. Though if Lord Immortal wishes to hunt more demons, there have been reports of two portals opening in the West." He informed.
