Heretic Detector

The Immortals watched as a change occurred in the glass orb.

A strange fog appeared inside it and started to swirl frantically. The blood that was smeared on the surface by the dagger was seemingly absorbed into it before the fog started to change color!

About five seconds later, the fog took on a yellow color.

"Lord Immortals, as you can see the color of the fog inside the Heretic Detector changed to yellow. This denotes that this person is a Second Generation Heretic." Mage Rizal explained. "The color of the fog will vary depending on the heretics generation." He said before gesturing the knights to the frenzied man.

"GRAH!" The frenzied man struggled and grunted but could not overpower the knights.

~SLAP~

"BEHAVE!" The Knights slapped the man, stunning him for long enough to drag him to the front again.

The chained man lifted his head and looked at the people in front of him with a scornful gaze. This also exposed the man's neck which was seen by the Immortals.

"That mark… Isn't that something the normal Heretics have?" Immortal Han Mu asked, having recognized it.

"You are correct, Lady Immortal." Mage Rizal answered. "But this man isn't actually a First Generation heretic." He revealed.

"He's not?" Immortal Han Mu questioned.

"But he does seem like one." Immortal Wu Lei said, sensing the aura that they had been taught to recognize.

"This man is a second generation heretic like the previous one. But because this heretic has managed to come in contact with demonic powers thereby elevating his own abilities." Mage Rizal answered before slashing the frenzied man's hand too.

~SLICK~

Blood spilled on the ground, while also covering the edge of the dagger.

Mage Rizal touched the glass orb with the dagger once more, causing the blood to be absorbed by it.

Similar to before fog appeared in the glass orb before it changed color. But this time it wasn't yellow, it was orange!

"The orange color denotes that this man is a Second Generation Heretic that awakened his abilities." Mage Rizal stated. "But if this was really a First Generation Heretic, the orb would turn red instead." He dead.

"Is that why they also have the mark?" Immortal Yan asked.

"Indeed." Mage Rizal nodded. "Second generation Heretics that have successfully awakened their abilities will gain a mark on their bodies." He spoke.

"And what about the Third Generation Heretics?" Immortal Han Mu questioned next.

"While we don't have any of them capture to show you, I'll just tell you that they will trigger the Heretic Detector to show a grey color." Mage Rizal answered. "The Heretic Detector basically measures the potency of demonic presence in their blood and the third generation Heretics have the lowest among their kind.

Though if they awaken, they can have the same level of abilities like a First Generation Heretic." He explained.

Hearing this made the Immortals think deeply about it.

'We weren't able to sense the second generation heretic, which means we won't be able to sense a third generation heretic either.' Immortal Yan thought. 'This is concerning… our senses can't pick up on them unless they are first generation or have awakened like that prisoner.

But the elders be able to sense them with their powers… They just need a reference for it.' The immortal reckoned.

With that, he came to a conclusion and looked at the mages.

"We want one such Heretic Detector for ourselves." Immortal Yan demanded.

"Of course!" Mage Clor replied immediately.

Even if the Heretic Detector wasn't exactly cheap to make, it was still nothing compared to satisfying an Immortal's desire.

'If we are lucky, they might even count this as a favor!' Mage Clor thought excitedly.

"Lord Immortal, if you would give us some time we'll arrange another Heretic Detector for your perusal." Mage Rizal requested. "We still need to check the people here. Considering the kind of people that stay here, we are highly inclined towards there being heretics here." He explained.

"Yes! Plus with the arrival of the Demons, we never know if anyone of them will take advantage and act out." Mage Clor chimed in. "It is best we get all of them tested and then separate the heretics for further processing and interrogation." He added.

"Very well, we'll wait till then." Immortal Yan accepted.

While he wished nothing more than to continue on his demon hunt, he also knew learning more about heretics was important.

'The elders already warned us to keep an eye out for them… Those Heretics can be even more dangerous than Demons considering the fact they can blend in with the humans.' Immortal Yan recalled the horror stories that had been told to them back in the Immortal Plane.

Those stories were secrets that were not known by the humans and only Immortals were privy to them.

'Its hard to think these scums have the potential to even go against us.' Immortal Yan looked at the two heretics as a frown appeared on his face.

He turned his head away, not wanting to feel the disgust anymore.

"We'll get started then, Lord Immortals." Mage Clor announced.

"Do so as you please. We'll observe." Immortal Yan replied and snapped his fingers.

In the next second, a set of elegant looking marble furniture appeared.

There was a round table, with a set of chairs that would not be out of place in a palace. They had fine designs on it along with gemstones embedded into the armrests.

It was clear that these were very expensive, and probably won't even be found in Human world.

The three Mages glanced at it for a moment, feeling stunned before looking away.

"Gather the survivors! We'll begin the process!" the Third Mage stated.

"Yes, Mage Pitas!" The Knights replied out loud before getting to work.

The people that were still kneeling finally got some respite and were allowed to stand up. But the anxiety they were feeling was still present, as they knew nothing of what was about to happen.
