Late at night, Natalie lay peacefully in bed surrounded by Alonso's warmth while they spooned. She was in that hazy state between sleep and wakefulness while Alonso's tender kisses traced her shoulders and neck, accompanied by the gentle strokes of his fingers playing with her hair.
"Natalie," he whispered, "You mean everything to me, and I'd do whatever it takes to protect you... Don't ever leave me."
I'm not going anywhere. She truly wished they could avoid arguments and enjoy their love without all the drama, but with a father-in-law like hers, it was just wishful thinking. She was wide awake now but pretended to be asleep, wanting to hear what was on her husband's mind and what was keeping him up at night.
"We'll get through this. I'll fix everything. You have my word, I will."
