A nightmare with no escape

"Have you come to finish me off?" Vicar asked, a strange note of satisfaction in his voice.

"Ah, to die at your hands is an honor, Ragnar," Vicar said.

Ragnar responded with a derisive laugh.

"Vicar Engeram," Ragnar said as he approached him, his sword still sheathed despite Vicar's eager anticipation. "You fool!"

"There were countless opportunities for me to end you, but I chose not to. Do you know why?" Ragnar leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper as he approached Vicar's ear.

"Because, to me, you are inconsequential. Your presence is of no significance, Vicar Engeram. That's the truth of it."

"No, no, no!" Vicar cried out, refusing to accept Ragnar's words. "I am not like that! I am the greatest warlord of all time, unmatched in history!"

Ragnar's voice grew colder as he moved back into the enveloping darkness.
