Not Hungry

- VANESSA -

Once we're out in the hallway, Dominik leads me through an office with wall-to-wall windows. It's dark out with no hint of light from the moon that would allow me to see the view, but I'm sure it's beautiful from up here.

In the far corner of the office is an opening leading to a stairway made almost entirely out of stone. Wooden beams above allow for small candelabras to hang every ten feet or so, lighting the way. It reminds me of a mineshaft.

"Are we inside the mountain?" My eyes trail up over the craggy walls. Even through the wool socks, I can feel the cold of the large stones that are staggered like steps under our feet.

"No. During the day, you would see the sky. It's just not as obvious at night."

Once we finally arrive at the bottom of the stairs, the kitchen is what greets us. Apparently we took a back staircase, because once we emerge, I realize how hidden the stairway appears to be.
