Going In Reverse

- DOMINIK -

Vanessa is with Ivan, and because of that I'm not seeing the twisting road in front of me that I'm following down the mountain. I'm not hearing the music Luka is streaming through the radio. Nothing is registering, because all my thoughts, all of my concern, is aimed backward where I watched Vanessa get in the car with Ivan while there was nothing I could do about it.

"She is going to be fine. We are all going to the same place," Luka says with a forceful edge, and I wonder if he hasn't been speaking to me this whole time without a response.

"He mentioned killing her," I reply, hand squeezing the steering wheel—twisting the leather and causing a creaking sound under my grip.

"He's not going to do that."

What I know of Ivan tells me he very much could do that. I can't think of anyone he would hesitate killing.

Before I know it, I'm slamming on the brakes and Luka is cursing beside me.
