Chapter two
Adele's knees quivered from intense fear. It was as though she was reliving her dream. She couldn't be mistaken. It was definitely him.
"Don't break up with me. It will ruin my family's image."
The man just stood there not saying anything. His silence burned Serena badly. She wanted him to say something. Anything.
"You broke the rules the moment you started craving affection. There are just two simple rules in the contract. One, never fall in love with me, and two, never ask for my attention."
"I don't care about those rules. They should go to hell and burn to ashes for all I care." She spat bitterly.
"It's you I want. Nothing else."
"Didn't you just say it'd ruin your family's image? Make up your mind. Besides, it doesn't surmount to anything. I don't love and I never will. We're done with this relationship. Goodbye, Serena."
"Please," Serena grabbed his legs. Her mascara had ruined her face because of her tears. She was sobbing uncontrollably while holding rightly unto him.
"I'm begging you. I'll die if you leave me."
"Then, I'll see you in hell." His voice was low and deadly. It was then he faced her. At the same time, Adele was trying to peep again. Those red orbs could make anybody drop dead. His compelling power was too much. He was the type that could make someone do something without having to give any orders.
Mr. Hale gestured for his men to take Serena away.
"No! You can't do this to me!!" She yelled while she was being dragged away. She wriggled in the arms of the strong men but her strength was nothing compared to theirs. She was nothing but a worm in their grasp.
Adele found it difficult to process the entire scene and how it unfolded to the end. The fear that gripped her was immense. She had to muster enough courage for her legs to even move.
'I have to get out of here.' She thought. The moment she took her first three steps, she stopped right on her track when she heard his voice again.
"I know you're there. Come out before I make you." His tone was icy. How did he know she was there? She was sure she didn't do anything to give herself away.
"Step out, now!" His voice came again.
Adele's mind was thrown into a tantrum. She didn't know if she was to run or yield to his command. One part of her screamed danger while the larger chunk wanted to meet this man. She wanted to know why he was appearing in her dreams every night. Sometimes she even got scared of sleeping.
It was time to face her fear. She came out of her hiding place, going face to face with him. The devil himself. Why was he real? Why was he there? Why does he appear in her dreams? Those questions ran through Adele's mind as she approached him.
"Were you spying on me? Are you one of those journalists or a paparazzi?" He questioned but she shook her head.
"You make use of your mouth when I ask a question." His eyes darkened but that only made him more alluring. Adele bit her lower lip as she came to stop, just seven feet away from him.
Staring into his eyes reminded her of the dream she had earlier that evening.
"Who are you?" She asked.
"I should be asking you that," He looked behind her to check if there were others with her.
"Why are you here?" His deadly gaze fell on her again.
"I just happened to be passing by." She looked away.
"I have to get going,"
"I'm not done with you." A smirk formed on his thin lips. He leaned against his car and folded his arms.
"You haven't told me the real reason you're here."
The fear Adele once felt suddenly disappeared. He wasn't as scary as she thought he was.
"I wasn't spying or anything. I have no interest in you whatsoever. Heck, I don't even like your face. Seeing you, in reality, makes me wanna puke." She yelled.
"Feisty, much? And also, in reality?" His cold gaze was replaced with orbs of confusion. But that only lasted for five seconds.
"Also, you don't love? That's impossible. You're human and you have a heart. You will definitely fall in love with someone. But I hope that when you fall, your heart will be broken to pieces." She was angry because of the way he treated Serena. All she wanted was just someone to love her but Mr. Red orbs here rejected her in the harshest way possible.
"Why do you wish that?" The conversation was interesting to Mr. Hale. He was listening with keen interest.
"Because you don't deserve something that precious. You don't deserve anybody's heart. You don't deserve anybody. And also, because you're my enemy from the moment I set my eyes on you. I will forever see you as my enemy because of that single action. You're inhumane and don't deserve love." She turned to leave and this time, he didn't stop her.
"Also, stop coming to me. I hate you with every single cell in me, and next time when I see you, I will make sure to end you." With that, she walked away. Mr. Hale's gaze hardened on the little lady that just ranted her mind.
There were things she said that were still unclear to him. What did she mean by him coming to her? He had never met her in his life before.
"She's interesting."
Mr. Hale turned in the direction of his younger brother, Damien, who was smiling sheepishly at the retreating lady.
"Want me to have a little 'chat' with her?" He asked, stressing on 'chat'.
"Don't!" Mr. Hale growled.
"She doesn't deserve a slow and painful death. She wished for me to find love and get heartbroken. What if I decide to return the favor?" A devilish smirk emerged on his face at the thought of that.
"She'll never fall for you. But she can fall six feet below the ground in the next sixty seconds." Damien stood by his side.
"Wanna bet?" Mr. Hale arched a brow.
"Nah, I've got too much to lose." He mused a shrug. "I'll just sit back and watch everything unfolds."
"Let's see if her walls are so thick that they can't be pulled down."
"Or if her walls are tight. I would do anything to get that information. Hehe." Damien said in a naughty way that made Mr. Hale smack the back of his head.
"And you?"
"I never fall in love. Never have and never will." He replied reassuringly.
The plan was simple; Get little miss prissy to fall in love with him, mess around with her mental health, and finally destroy her high-built walls until she feels worthless.

Adele found her way back to the bar but not after looking back at intervals to check if anyone followed her.
"We have to leave here," Adele said hastily, grabbing Gina's arms.
"Why? I'm just getting started." The party was at its peak but none of that concerned Adele. She just wanted to leave.
"You can always come some other time. I want to get out of here. I promise to explain to you on the way." She kept looking around if any suspicious person was around but heck, she was surrounded by strangers and so, everyone was suspicious.
After much persuasion, Gina yielded and they boarded a taxi home. When they got back, Adele hurried a bath and changed into some new nightwear Gina got for her. Since there was only one room, Adele opted to sleep on the couch in the living room. She couldn't stop thinking about her encounter with the devil.
'He was kinda handsome.' She thought. She shivered when she realized herself.
'I've got too many things to worry about and he isn't one of them.'
She closed her eyes to sleep and that night, Mr. Hale didn't go to her. For the first time in six years, she slept without having to wake up in the middle of the night gasping for breath.
