Atlas could not fully understand Adoh's words.
'Is heaven exclusive to the gods? What's the point of that?'
In his world, humanity began to take to the skies relatively recently considering the vast and long history of the earth. But this world was different.
Atlas did not know the history of this world or to what level the technology existed to even consider the existence of airplanes. But it was not necessary to go to such extremes.
With magic and artifacts, it was not unthinkable to think that someone would be able to create magic to achieve flight, also considering the wide opportunities with artifacts, it was not impossible to fly without airplanes, hot air balloons, etc.
"Why is there such a rule?" Atlas asked, looking seriously at Adoh.
The fairy shrugged.
"Who knows, I just know that it is a rule that has been passed down for hundreds of years. Not only with artifacts, even magicians are prohibited from researching flight magic"
Atlas had never heard of it before, and he was quite sure that Aryn had never mentioned it, but there was a reason for that. Atlas was barely an apprentice mage, thinking about flying was something unthinkable for a mage who was just understanding that what was the mana.
"Of course, there are always exceptions" Adoh mentioned.
"Which are?"
"The highest ranks of the 12 churches are allowed to fly, you already met one"
Atlas thought for a few moments and remembered the Valkyrie named Elyen who belonged to the church of dawn. Atlas had not seen her arrive or leave, but considering her magnificent wings, he had no doubt that the woman had flown.
But it wasn't the only time he had seen someone fly. Atlas reached into one of his pockets and touched the emblem that that mysterious person had given him back when he saved Atlas killing the infected mage in the dead forest.
That person had also displayed a pair of white wings worthy of biblical angels.
'Did he belong to any of the twelve churches?'
However, it was unlikely. After learning about the existence of the twelve churches, Atlas investigated and asked to understand what it was and what gods they represented and the symbol on the emblem did not represent any of the twelve churches.
First there were the two churches whose members Atlas had already encountered. The church of Dawn was the most powerful church within the kingdom of Elherud, they served the god of the Sun. Then there was the church of eternity, which served the god of eternity himself.
Then there were the rest of the churches.
The Church of Dusk, serving the moon god.
The Church of Nature served the God of Life.
The Church of Death served the God of Death.
The Church of the Ocean served the God of Water.
The Church of Knowledge served the God of Wisdom.
The Church of Love served the God of Love.
The Church of Power served the God of War.
The Church of Oblivion served the God of Oblivion.
The Church of Time served the God of Time.
The Church of the Abyss who served the God of the Abyss.
The only church that seemed strange to Atlas was the church of the abyss. Why would anyone serve the abyss? Was there even a god of the abyss?
Atlas was full of questions, but he had few answers.
Adoh's words were simple. As long as someone was close to one of the gods, then they could take to the skies as they pleased.
Atlas also did not want to challenge the world itself. He didn't know if gods really existed or not, but he didn't intend to attract the attention of the churches just by flying. He couldn't let flying sound interesting, plus it was a not-so-remote possibility, but the rules existed for a reason.
Adoh had nothing more to teach Atlas for that day. So, Atlas continued to investigate some things while Adoh retired to the room.
Faun stayed with Atlas late into the night before going to his room. Meanwhile, Atlas really couldn't forget Adoh's words.
'The sky belongs to the gods... Why?'
What was the point of the gods making such a rule? Was there something to hide? Was it a simple whim? Or maybe the gods didn't even exist and it was a rule that was just passed down from generation to generation without a real reason for being.
Atlas didn't know but he still thought about it. I even went as far as to see if there was any flying skill available in the system store, but there wasn't.
'How strong do you have to be to be able to fly?'
Atlas was just going to forget about it, but then an idea came to his mind and he pointed his two hands down, creating magic circles in front of both of them.
Soon, two blasts of air flowed from the magic circles until they reached the ground, then, Atlas had them push him from below to try to rise a few centimeters from the ground.
However, the power of the blasts was not enough to lift his weight. Atlas could increase the power of the spell, but he didn't want to create a mess in the workshop, so he simply deactivated the magic and continued doing other things.
Just as he had learned [Minor Wind Bullet] by condensing [Minor Wind Gust] as possible, perhaps he would learn flight magic by lifting his body in the same way. But it wasn't that simple.
