Chapter 16.5

As Jon regained consciousness, he felt the gentle energy flowing through his body, healing him from the aftermath of Xerneas's powerful attack. He gazed at Xerneas, still sparkling with golden lightning here and there. Never in his wildest dreams or imagination had he imagined the destructive capabilities of a god.

Struggling to take in the scene around him, Jon saw that the once-mountainous waves of the terrain had transformed into deep pits. In the next moment, he found himself floating above the vast chasms, while Xerneas continued to stride through the air, remaining in battle mode.

While in the abode of the greenseer, the children of the forest cowered in the corner of the cave, terrified whispers escaping their lips. "The God is angry, his wrath is coming after us... He is coming," they muttered in fear. Brynden, too, was horrified by the thunderous might summoned to the land. He attempted to use his powers to discern the source of such might.

As he peered into the mystical realm, he beheld a horde of undead approaching, bypassing him with eerie purpose. Turning to follow their path, Brynden glimpsed a shadow amidst the storm, but the hail obscured his vision. Then, he noticed a pair of eyes with faint glow, marked with an 'x' as a pupil, surrounded by sparks of golden lightning.

In the next moment, his vision was consumed by blinding brilliance as he felt his soul drift away amidst the destruction caused by the seven-colored lightning. Before long, consciousness returned to his body, leaving him shaken to the core.

Struggling to catch his breath, Brynden turned to find Leaf clutching her head in fear, her movements frantic as she crawled towards the corner of the cave. Their eyes met, and Leaf's expression reflected the terror that gripped her. With a voice trembling with fear, she warned Brynden, "You shouldn't provoke the God. He is coming for us, to punish our kind's sin."

Brynden wanted to inquire how Leaf knew that it was indeed the God who was approaching them. He knew that Xerneas had never appeared in the history of mortal realm in a living form; it was merely a manifestation of the spirit of life. Yet, with each passing moment, he sensed a formidable presence drawing nearer to their sanctuary.

And Brynden was certain that the presence he felt matched the one he had seen in the shadowy vision. When he attempted to wield his greenseer's power once more, he discovered that it was being resisted by the same force preventing him from using it. He longed to ask "Why?" but there was no one present to provide him with an answer.

While in the Land of Always Winter, the Night King felt fear for the first time in ages, an emotion long forgotten in his icy existence. Despite being surrounded by a horde of undead and White Walkers, he couldn't shake the fear of the unknown that gripped him. A strange and potent magic now restrained his powers, rendering his wights useless as his eyes. Yet, he was unwilling to retreat from what he had long awaited. He desired to be the one who brought the storm, not merely one who waited for it to pass.
