Chapter Nine

She broke out in sweat. Afraid of the unknown, she kept her eyes shut while trying to pull the blanket over her head. But she felt the cloth being pulled down slowly. Her body responded by trembling in sheer fright.

Still not daring to open her eyes, she parted her lips with great difficulty.

"Ed.. Edward," She whispered ever so quietly into the air. "Could you let go of the blanket?"

Immediately, the screaming voices stopped and Nelly felt a sudden chilliness embrace her.

The blanket stopped moving as well, and she muttered almost inaudibly.

"Thank you."

Suddenly, in the same hushed tone she had used, a voice replied her.

"I...I never touched your blanket."

Nelly gasped as she felt a force drag the blanket off her. She was forced to open her eyes, whilst raising herself on the bed. She turned to where her roommate had lain, but he wasn't there. She took her eyes round the room, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Her heart now thumped wildly in its ribcage, threatening to break out of her chest.

Then she heard a creaky noise. She watched in a horrified bewilderment as the door creaked open slowly with no one at the other side.

"Edward?" She called with quivering lips. "This isn't funny okay? So stop this now!"

But of course it was a futile endeavor to hope, aimed at reassuring herself that this whole shenanigan was man made and not some paranormal adventure. But deep within her, she knew it - the truth. This is...this was not Edward's doing, and certainly not a typical human prank.

"Edward?" She called again.

Still she got no response.

Appearing almost immediately, Nelly observed as Anna walked past alongside someone she failed to recognize.

"Hey!" She screamed, jumping of the bed to go after them, but she missed her footing and fell at the doorway.

"Hey, are you okay?" Edward asked in concern, rushing towards her from the end of the passage. "Let me help."

"Let go of me you bastard!" She shrieked, shoving away his hand.

"Whao, did I do something wrong?"

"What's going on here?" Beatrice asked as she and Alex joined them. They had woken on hearing the noise caused by Nelly.

"I should be asking that question, what the hell is going on here?" Nelly raised before turning to her roommate. "And where the fuck did you go?"
