Before he was plunged into utter darkness, Liang Chen was still thinking, what a pity, he and Jing Haohao always seemed to be just one step away.
...
Jing Haohao was the first to reach the car. She leaned her head into the car to find Liang Chen with his eyes closed, his hands covered in blood.
Her mind went numb for a moment, it took her a while to reach out, gently nudging Liang Chen: "Liang Chen? I'm back."
The man made no movement.
A slight frown appeared on Jing Haohao's brow. She continued to shake Liang Chen's arm, her voice barely a whisper, "Liang Chen, I made a promise to you. I said I would find someone to save you, and now I have."
Her words were met with silence.
Jing Haohao's tears began streaming down, "Liang Chen, don't scare me. You promised me, you promised to wait for my return."
Jing Haohao held Liang Chen's hand, and that's when she realised that it was terrifyingly cold, nothing like the warm, vigorous grip when he used to hold her hand.
