Abandonment

CW: Implied Sexual Assault, Implied Rape, Slavery and Incest

The chains rattled, scraped, clanked together. The steel around Edrege's ankles and wrist had burnt through his fur and began cutting into his flesh, causing him to bleed around the cell.

It had been weeks since he was falsely charged with the murder of his fiance and parents. Weeks since Samas took over the underground. Weeks since he's even seen another living being.

The chains that held him somehow drained him of his physical strength. Some sort of anti magical chains that distorted his very existence as a being of flesh, blood and magic. It made it nearly impossible to think.

Clunk!!!

The sound of the metallic door to his dungeon swung open. The sound of small footsteps approached. When Edrege raised his head to see who had come to see him, he was terrified and confused as he came face to face with Samas.

"Oh dear brother, look at you… so weak and fragile."

He tried to look away, but the moment he did he could feel her hand trace to his neck and grab hold of his chin, forcing him to look at her, their faces only inches apart.

"Don't worry, your little sister is going to take good care of you. Now no one can take you from me."

Edrege tried to speak but as he did the chains around his ankles and wrist disappeared. Falling to his knees from feeling his power return, he looked to Samas. She was standing still in front of him, holding her arms open as if expecting a hug.

His blood was boiling, he couldn't contain his rage. With all his might he clenched his fist and tried to attack but as he did he felt a choking sensation. A shackle had appeared around his throat, a chain leading into the hands of Sama and once again his power was drained.

"Oh no… you really hate me don't you? Don't worry. That can be fixed. I'll make you love me and only me…"

She tugged on the chain, pulling Edrege into an embrace. He could do nothing to fight back. He was completely and utterly drained. He could do nothing as the woman who took everything from him held him against her chest and stroked his head in a forced embrace.

"I can give you everything they could you know… I'll take care of you emotionally, feed you, bathe you. Just like Mom did. I'll make you stronger, smarter more gentlemanly… just like dad did and… Kawabata…"

Edrege's stomach sank at the implications, hearing his sisters heart beat increase as she merely chuckled.

"Well, she was just as flat as me… Whatever it takes, to ensure you'll never leave me… but you're not ready yet. That attack. So much hate… don't worry. I'll visit you every day just like this. And we can build things up. I'll train you"

He felt a sudden pain as he was forced to the Ground, Samas stepping down on his chest, he winced and tried to scream as he felt his ribs breaking, but the shackle around his neck prevented any kind of sound from escaping his lips.

"Your training is going to begin now. You will love me Edrege. You will love only me. And that's never going to change. I won't let you change it. It doesn't matter how much stronger than me you are… your mind… now that's something I can control. I can overpower. Very… very easily. You and I are going to have so much fun together. And you will learn to love it."

Edrege felt nothing but horror. His little sister who he spent his whole life trying to protect had become this?

He reflected on their lives to this point. His nervous introverted little sister who was scared of her own shadow. Too scared to leave her room so he'd visit her. When she was working with Roman and Gaster, he'd still visit her despite his issues with Roman. Every day.

How could things have fallen into such horror? Was it something he did wrong? How could his sweet and naive little sister become such a depraved maniac? And there was nothing he could do about it. He couldn't fight back.

He couldn't ward her off, he couldn't beg for mercy. There was nothing he could do to escape this horrifying situation. Did he really just have to accept this fate? Was no one going to save him?

His eyes began to sting as he felt the tears fill them and begin falling down his face. That's when he felt heat against his fur. Samas had gotten closer. A shiver ran up his entire body as her tongue made its way up his face to his eye, licking up the tears.

"Tasty~"

Samas giggled, looking at him as she now laid on his chest. Caressing his biceps, still laughing under her breath, looking into Edrege's eyes, her eyes dilating as she stared down at him, mesmerized by his tears

"This is what it was always meant to be, right? That's what you told me! While Chara and Asriel were off doing whatever they wanted it would always be you and me! Us! Together! Just Samas and Edrege. But you had to go and try to leave me!"

Samas laughed under her breath, seeming to get distraught

"Just like Mom and Dad left me with those negligent assholes Gaster and Roman! Just like Chara and Asriel never bothered to pay me a fucking visit! Just like Roman leaving me for weeks to fuck around with Chara! Everyone was mourning! Mom and Dad had each other! You had Kawabata! Who did I have huh?! Who was there for me?!"

Samas was crying now, tears streaming down her face while that sick and twisted smile just grew. Leaning in closer and closer to Edrege's face.

"But that's okay now… it's okay. Because they're all gone now… we can finally be together. Just like you promised me. And no one's going to get in the way of that. I'm finally getting what I want"

Edrege desperately wanted to say something, to fight back, but he couldn't. Horror filling his eyes as a large needle appeared in the hands of Samas, injecting it into his throat.

Almost immediately his body fell numb. The room began to spin. His skin felt like it was melting.

"Even if I have to break you"

Roman sat alone in his lab, holding his head in his hands. He was destroyed. Everything that's happening… it's somehow worse. In the previous reset, only Samas died, but now in the current one, Kawabata, Asgore and Toriel were all dead and Edrege was imprisoned.

While Doggo had been found alive and testified that Edrege was not the one who pushed him, all other evidence pointed to Edrege being the killer of Asgore and Toriel.

He tried to visit but was turned away by the guards. The royal family being locked away for the time being to ensure their safety.

Although, in the short time Samas has been named Queen of the underground she has put in work, changing the underground for the better, it still didn't sit right with him.

It seemed as though with every reset that was made somehow things only got worse. The void was closer than ever, polluting their universe and threatening its very existence. He couldn't bear to imagine what would happen if they reset again.

They had abused the reset during their experiments and doomed this world. He had only wished to save it and now, it truly was doomed. His life's work has been utterly and totally pointless.

Roman stood up, taking a look at what could be his final invention. The Final Room. A small home designed to resist the effects of the void, made using the same magic and material as his stopwatch. If he's lucky this should save him and two others from the effects of the void. He just needed to decide who to bring with him.

One spot was already taken, Chara. That girl has suffered long enough and way too much. It would be better to be free of her curse and free of the pain, but who else?

He knew he couldn't bring Asriel or Edrege, they were threats and extremely dangerous. Asriel for his unpredictability and possible connection to the void, and Edrege's anger. Plus he doubted he could convince 'Queen Samas' to release Edrege without inviting her.

Samas was another option, but he remembered how she had suddenly attacked him and Chara. She herself could also be extremely dangerous, as much as he cared for the girl, she was a threat.

The best candidate was his brother Gaster, however, Roman knew that being in a confined space with Gaster would be the greatest challenge of all. The two have never gotten along and it could jeopardize everyone.

It had to be Samas or Gaster. His brother, or his adopted daughter. It would be an intensely difficult decision, one he would share with Chara.

Exiting his lab, Roman made his way to the castle. Since the lockdown, Chara and Asriel had been brought to their childhood home and forced to stay. The castle.

Roman made his way to the main gate but was stopped by the guards

"Halt! The castle is under lockdown, no one may come in or out!"

Roman was confused, he knew it was lockdown, but not letting even him in was strange

"Look,.I'm just here to see Chara so if you could-"

Roman tried reaching for the door, but the guards attempted to cut off his hand the same instant he reached forward. Roman barely managed to pull his hand back in time. He glared at the guards in a fit of rage before laughing to himself.

"Guards, have you ever wondered the difference between my brother and I?"

The guards remained steadfast, just glaring at Roman in return.

"Come on, I mean, we are both genius inventors, we spend all our time crafting inventions meant to better all of monster kind, we are both skeletons, what is the difference?"

The guards were annoyed but one of them rolled his eyes and decided to play along with Roman's game.

"Is it that the two of you have different fields of study sir?"

Roman suddenly let out a loud laugh, almost out of character as he clutched his non existent stomach, waving his hand in front of him

"No, no, no! Nothing like that! Well sort of, fundamentally his inventions are more material and mine and metaphysical. It seems you don't know the history, so let me tell you. The major difference is first and foremost my brother is a scientist, who has put all of his magic in building the core"

Roman raised his hand, a bright pink glow forming in his left eye. The ground began to quake, chunks of stone breaking from the ground. The whole of the underground was shaking.

"I was the first Captain of the Royal Guard"

Chara sat alone in what used to be Toriel's and Asgore's room. She was confused as to what was going on. One moment she was with Roman, the next she was being dragged away against her will and locked away.

As it turned out, both the king and queen had been murdered with Edrege as the killer. She had no clue what was going on anymore. She didn't want to believe Edrege was capable of this, but then she remembered the past reset where he had killed Gaster. His rage was uncontrollable and she couldn't put it past him anymore.

Roman and Edrege had a complicated past from what she had gathered. She tried to remember a time when Edrege and Roman were close, but it was so foggy. They had been the best of friends.

She remembered every day the adventures she'd be taken on with them, their rivalry with each other… their battles. Of course, Edrege could never beat Roman, it was still exciting to watch, even if you knew the results.

After every loss he would come back to She and Samas consoled him, telling him he would win next time until there wasn't a next time. She remembered it vividly, the day everything went wrong.

It had been just like any other day really. Asriel and I were fighting over who gets what bowl, Samas had just recently turned nine a few days prior. Mom and Dad were tending the garden. Everything was perfect.

Then came the knock. That dreaded knock. It was Roman, he had come over to visit with Asgore and report a finding he had. Edrege wanted to hear about it first as not to disturb Dad. I don't know what they found, but this caused a massive fight between Roman and Edrege.

It was massive.

"Just because we are monsters, it doesn't mean you should act like one!" Roman shouted, anger in his voice.

"I'm doing what is best! Someone needs to make the tough decisions! Dad is too much of a coward to do what is necessary for our people! I thought you would understand!" Edrege retorted, getting in Roman's face.

Roman scowled, pushing Edrege back, however, Roman accidentally used far too much force . Edrege was sent through the wall and onto the ground.

"Oh shit! Edrege I'm so sorry!" Roman rushed to try and help Edrege but as got there, Edrege quickly leapt to his feet and punched Roman in the jaw, sending a ripple through his bones and forming cracks on his skull.

A feint pink light flickered in Roman's left eye, pink flames bursting from the cracks in Roman's skulls and into the sky, an intense heat burning the very Oxygen in the area, making it nearly impossible to breathe.

Edrege however began to heat up as well, burning out the last of the Oxygen in the area. The two began going blow for blow, pink flames in Roman's hands as they began to swing. There was no sound, just blood and dust scattering

Chara tried to get in close, to try and stop the fighting, but their aura alone just tossed her away. The city crumbling under the pressure of their battle. All of the sudden, Edrege was launched into the air with Roman following.

Roman had upper cut him Edrege and sent him flying through the air, with Roman close behind as he leaped after the goat monster. Once in the air, it was clear Roman had the upper hand as they went higher and higher into the sky.

Roman landing blow after blow, his flames growing brighter and larger as the fight went on before Roman punched Edrege into the ceiling of the cave. The very top of Mount Ebott.

Edrege had been pinned into the roof, but Roman did not care. He pulled Edrege from the roof and threw him back down to the ground.

As Edrege was falling, Roman began channeling all of his flames into his hands, shooting a massive wave of pink flames after the descending Edrege, engulfing the prince in fire, that blasted into the ground. As the flames made contact with the ground below, magma burst forth as the stone was being immediately melted.

However, Edrege never hit the ground. From out of nowhere a hand burst forth grabbing Roman by the throat and punching him back to the ground. Edrege had gone back up the flames to attack. He was lightly damaged from the flames, his fur singed and burnt but he didn't care.

He had summoned his massive great mace, prepared to continue battle as he touched foot on the ground and slowly walked towards Roman. Roman in turn let out a soft chuckle as the heat between the two began to subside.

"Are you seriously going to try and kill me? Are you that much of a coward?" Roman accused, almost laughing at the situation.

The skeleton brought a hand to his skull, running his hands over the cracks that had now formed through his eyes.

"Those aren't ever going to heal. Why'd you have to hit me like that? You know-"

Before Roman could say another word he had to dodge as Edrege swung his mace down at Roman. Roman laughed again and dodged out of the way.

"-I never realized how hard you hit when you don't hold back, you'll-"

Roman dodged once again, laughing as he dodged multiple swings from Edrege.

"- make a great King one day. It's just a shame-"

Roman dodged one last blow that struck the ground, causing an earthquake across the entirety of the underground, toppling even more buildings.

Roman had gotten out of the way, standing on top of some of the rubble and looking down at Edrege.

"You'll never be as strong as me"

Before Edrege could land another strike with his mace, Roman caught it by the spiked ball. Holding it in place before swiftly shattering it.

"Allow me to show you what happens when I don't hold back"

And that was the last thing Chara remembered seeing or hearing before blacking out. All she knew is that they needed to abandon the old home as it had been laid to ruin in their battle.

After this, Edrege had hated Roman with every fiber of his being and Roman resigned from his position as Captain of the Royal Guard. Joining his brother in the lab.

The years following that were miserable. Asgore and Toriel grew more distant. Edrege grew more cold and was around less often, at least until he found Kawabata. She made him a much better person, he was still distant but he became pleasant to be around at the very least.

Asriel became more clingy from the distance from his family. This fight may have been the catalyst for everything going to hell.

Chara let out a sigh when she heard a sudden gust of wind. Turning to the window, she saw it was wide open. She had not opened that window. She approached it slowly, but before she could get too close, she was tackled by a small entity.

Hitting the ground Chara felt herself nearly have a panic attack, but once she saw who it was, she almost instantly calmed down. Smiling up at one of her best friends Rose.

Rose was technically a member of the Royal Guard, but most of the guard don't even know of her existence outside rumours and tall tales. Even Edrege didn't know anything about her.

Rose typically had a strange plant like mask covering her mouth that wrapped around over her head like a pointed hood as well. Behind the hood nothing could be seen aside from bright glowing yellow eyes. Leafs hanging around her neck down to her chest like she was wearing a cloak, and strange thorn like blades adorning both her wrists.

Rose had many roles in the Kingdom, the Royal Spymaster, the Royal Assassin, with few monsters knowing if she even exists, with far fewer knowing what she looks like.

Chara however was close with Rose, because she wanted to be a Spy or Assassin just like her and they grew up together. Rose was like family.

"Oh my god Chara! It has been way too long! I've missed you so much!"

No one would have guessed that the mythological assassin of the Royal family acted like she does. That the monster with no quarrels against killing people, acted like a total child and had the personality of a cinnamon roll.

Chara laughed aloud, picking up Rose so she could get up, and once she did, she wrapped Rose in a tight hug.

"Rose I haven't seen you in so long! What have you been up to? I can't imagine Asgore has had much work for you right?"

Rose giggled loudly, hugging Chara back before stepping back.

"Chara… I don't don't how to say this. But before Asgore died he left me with a job."

Suddenly Rose split into ten different versions of herself. All looking at Chara before combining back to one.

"Asgore wanted me to keep an eye on all of the members of the Royal family, almost as if he knew what was going to happen. I've seen it all but I haven't been able to make myself known until now. Everything is doomed Chara."

Chara's smile disappeared quickly as she stepped back a bit from Rose in confusion and worry.

"Rose, what are you talking about?"

Rose was silent a moment, looking around the room before suddenly shooting a thorn into the wall, lightning bursting forth.

"We were being listened in on… listen Chara. Samas killed Toriel, Asgore and Kawabata. She covered it all up and framed Edrege. She put into question Asriel's mental state and took over the underground."

"Samas invented the security across the entirety of the underground. The only place she doesn't have total control over is here in the castle and even then she's listening in. She's a monster"

Chara wasn't sure how to take this information, her head spinning as she began to stumble backwards into the wall. She called it too soon earlier when she thought the panic would disappear.

"She's… she's torturing Edrege in ways you don't even want to imagine. And that's just the tip of the Iceberg. Some great force called the void is leaking into the world, threatening to erase everything, but Roman invented a safe room that should shield people from the effects of the void. Most specifically, four people. We have to get there and soon!"

Chara was trying to breathe, trying to relax and trying desperately not to fully enter a panic attack. The world being doomed, everything being destroyed, what was she supposed to do?

Rose approached, taking Chara by the hand and staring her in the eyes before wrapping her in a light hug, rubbing her back softly as Chara had begun hyperventilating.

Chara couldn't speak, she couldn't move, she was frozen in place like the world was crashing around her. She could barely recognize Rose was there, but slowly, she managed to lift her arms and return the hug.

Her breathing was slowing down, managing to calm down if only slightly. She was so scared, but in this moment, she almost felt safe.

"How long do we have?"

Before Rose could respond the entire castle began to shake, walls slowly crumbling. Chara didn't have a chance to react as Rose took her by the hand and leapt out the window. As they were falling, they were wrapped in a shroud of Darkness, and appeared in this strange purple world.

It looked like where they had left but it was just outlines, like purple sketches of the buildings and people below. Chara and Rose were descending slowly before lightly touching down.

"Sorry Chara, I didn't have much choice. This is the Shadow Realm. A place that exists between existence and non existence. I've seen a lot of strange things through this realm. Such as your… shall we call them resets? Because I don't exist in the material world I remain unaffected."

Chara was shocked by this revelation. Seeing the world through Rose's eyes was strange. It felt so cold and dark. Lonely. She gazed to Rose who was guiding her through the underground within this Shadow Realm.

As they were walking past the main gates, Chara saw it, flames bursting from the gate, the castle crumbling. Roman was here. He had probably come to get her, but things only got worse.

Rose halted in her tracks, staring forward, and Chara could only do the same. A familiar figure stepped forward. She wasn't a purple outline, she was truly here.

With a smile on her face, Samas stared down both Chara and Rose.

"It's a neat little trick you know? Entering this realm at will, but I've been able to see it for quite some time. I could see you hiding in it and watching me, Rose"

Samas laughed, reaching up and tapping her glasses softly.

"I'm a genius, I invented these glasses to cure my blindness, but I realized they could do so much more than that. I can see infinite possibilities. Of course, neither of you could possibly understand the concept of Quantum Probabilities, but even later I could see the void, and even the Shadow Realm. I just needed a way to enter it. And I've gotten just that."

Samas reached into her coat and pulled out a gun, pointing it at Rose and Chara with the same innocent smile she always had. This sent a chill down Chara's spine.

"I've also seen of course that you Chara. You're the cause of all of this. Even my current fractured Psychy. I was a good person. I wanted to help people, but you and Roman… you were greedy. I could have single handedly saved the underground!"

"I could see every possibility and fix it all, but Roman… ha. He let his ego get in the way. With every single reset you doomed our universe. The infinite timelines and everything inbetween. You've doomed it. You've cursed it. Each time you reset everything got more and more fucked up! Guess what! In this timeline I'm a raging psychopath with a brother complex…"

Samas couldn't help but laugh, waving the gun around as if even she was questioning what was going on. There was a deep sadness in her voice as she continued to laugh, growing more and more psychotic as it went on.

"You've turned me into a monster! If it weren't for you… for Roman… I wouldn't be like this! You were too greedy and you allowed this to happen. I mean, I'm even stupid! Thinking about killing you… but that won't do anything will it Chara. You will just reset and I'll be even more deranged than I was before. Can you imagine how scary that is to me?"

Tears began to fall down her face as her hand began to shake before dropping the gun and falling to her knees. Sobbing like a child.

"Why? Why did you do this to me?! Do this to us!? To everyone… we could have been happy… things could have been better!"

Chara tried to approach Samas but was stopped by Rose who shook her head at Chara. The two of them walking past Samas, but Samas spoke once again.

"Please… please Chara. Please don't leave me… I don't want to be alone anymore… I don't want to be like this! Please I beg you!"

Chara stopped, turning to Samas and slowly approaching. She wanted to hate Samas. She wanted to just leave the Dreemurr's behind for good, but she knew Samas was right. Getting on her knees with Samas, Chara hugged the small goat girl tightly, holding her close.

"It's okay, Samas. It's okay. I promise. Get up. We don't have much time."

Taking Samas by the hand, she helped her stand up and return to Rose. Together they left, headed straight for the lab. They needed to escape.
