His Blindness Was a Farce

"Well... Uh..." Wynonna guessed that Shane had heard the sound of the stun gun and quickly made up an excuse. "That was an electric mosquito racket. It's summer now, and there are more mosquitoes at night, so I bought one online."

"Huh. How effective could an electric mosquito racket possibly be?" Shane raised his eyebrows as if he were unimpressed. "Ask Uncle Ben for a UV mosquito killer lamp."

"Alright," Wynonna nodded in obedience.

So, you look down on an electric mosquito racket? You shall find out later whether it works or not, she thought.

She hid the stun gun under her pillow before going out to look for Uncle Ben.

Shane heard her footsteps fade away and immediately got up from the sofa and walked to the bed. He took the stun gun out from under her pillow and read the instruction manual with a sneer on his face.

On her way back after getting the UV mosquito killer lamp, Wynonna thought of ways to quickly get Shane into bed.

When she opened the door, she found the room in darkness except for some moonlight seeping in through the gap between the curtains.

Shane had already gone to bed. Not only that, but his breathing was long and regular like he was in a deep sleep.

Just to be sure, Wynonna carefully asked, "Hey, Shane Muller... are you asleep?"

He did not answer.

Wynonna's heart leaped in excitement. She put down the UV lamp immediately. She climbed into bed and felt around in the dim moonlight. The first thing she wanted to do was to use the stun gun to knock Shane out.

She remembered clearly that she had placed the insulated end on the lower part of her pillow and the electric current end on the upper part of her pillow, so she naturally reached for the lower part.

However, a strong electric current hit her the moment she touched the stun gun and went from her arm to the rest of her body ... The next moment, she blacked out and fell onto the bed with a thud.

Shane heard her fall, and his eyes flew open, then he took a sideways glance at her.

What a stupid woman, he thought. She wouldn't die if she didn't try looking for trouble.

The stun gun was indeed very powerful. When Wynonna woke up, it was already the following day. Her body felt limp and weak. Every cell in her body ached.

It seemed absurd, and she simply could not figure out what had happened. Even if she had picked up the wrong end of the stun gun, why would there be a current if she had not turned it on?

The only possibility was that the stun gun was a poor imitation and leaked charge. I will write a bad review for that seller, thought Wynonna.

Suddenly, she heard voices talking in the next room. It sounded like Shane, Alan, and another woman... So she crept out of bed, went along the wall to outside the next room's door, and peaked in through the gap.

In the room, Alan spoke in a stiff and mechanical manner. "Mr. Muller, I found this woman at the karaoke lounge. She wore the same cap in the surveillance video. I did not bring her over earlier because Ms. Sinclair has been with you for the past few days."

Shane leaned against the soft European-style sofa and looked down at the kneeling cleaning lady. His hands gripped the armrest.

This woman is so old and ugly that I could grab any woman off the street and she would be far better than her, Shane thought.

...

"Sir, it really wasn't me! I am just a cleaning lady. I didn't do it!" the cleaning lady shouted with all her might, her hair disheveled.

She had been locked up in a small, black house since the group of men in black suits had taken her away from the karaoke lounge.

There, they showed her the surveillance video and asked her over and over again if she was the woman in the surveillance video and if she had done unspeakable things to a man in the parking lot.

"Throw her to the sharks!" Shane shouted as the veins on his forehead popped out.

All his desire to torment her had vanished. He wanted her dead now.

Wynonna, who was eavesdropping outside, turned pale as she recognized the woman's voice. She was the cleaning lady at the karaoke lounge.

She was a kind lady who'd taken good care of her. She'd even given her some handmade desserts.

She could not bear to see that cleaning lady be her scapegoat, but she also did not want to die. While she was still in a dilemma, she heard Shane's cold voice say, "Hang on. If it wasn't you, then tell me, where did you get that cap?"

He could not accept this old lady as the culprit. Giving her a chance to explain herself was also giving himself a chance.

The cleaning lady saw an opportunity to save her life and quickly explained, "I found that cap in the karaoke lounge bathroom's trash can while I was cleaning. Besides, that cap's design is obviously meant for young people. Why would I, an old woman choose such a design?

There is no surveillance camera in the bathroom, but there is one outside along the hallway. You can look at the surveillance video taken on that day. I wasn't wearing this cap when I went in to clean. I wore it only after coming out."

Shane was silent for a moment, then looked at Alan and said, "Go and check the surveillance video from that night."

"Yes, Mr. Muller." Alan stepped back and answered respectfully.

Outside the room, Wynonna heard that they were going to check the surveillance video and ran back to her room in fear.

That would be the end of her. If they found that surveillance video, they would discover that she'd been wearing that cap when she had entered the bathroom! The lighting along the karaoke lounge's hallway was better than the parking lot and the angle was not as wide, so the video would surely be sharper. Even if the cap had covered most of her face, they would still recognize her!

No, she had to think of a way to get rid of that surveillance video... Then, Wynonna heard the door of the next room open. That must be Alan leaving for Ocean Sky Karaoke Lounge to get that surveillance video, she thought.

Soon after that, Shane left the room too, and it sounded like he was headed for the bedroom.

Wynonna heard Shane's footsteps getting closer. She decided not to call the karaoke lounge's manager but send him a text message instead.

The manager, Mr. Wilson, did not reply even after a long time, and Wynonna panicked, her forehead covered in cold sweat.

The karaoke lounge was a noisy place, and Mr. Wilson often walked around the premises, so it was not unusual for him to not hear his message notification alerts.

But now that she had an emergency, it would be the end of her if he did not reply soon!

In her state of panic, Wynonna remembered that there was another person who could help her... That person was her middle school good friend, Jack Graham. He was very good with computers and was a secret hacker.

However, when her father had been imprisoned, Wynonna had dropped out of school, changed her phone number and other social media accounts, and cut off contact with all of her friends.

Because she had felt inferior and afraid that they would leave her or look down on her if they knew what had happened to her.

Thinking back, she had not contacted Jack for more than half a year. She was not sure if he would help her, but she had no option but to beg him.

...

Wynonna logged into her old Messenger account, and a flood of unread messages came in on her cell phone. They were all from a few of her old close friends. One of them was Jack.

"Wynonna Sinclair, we know what happened to you. Why didn't you come to us for help? Why did you go into hiding?"

"I told you that old geezer Louis Young could not be trusted, but you wouldn't believe me! Do you regret being with him now?"

"If you see this message, please reply asap. We are still the same. That has not changed. We are still your friends."

Wynonna was almost moved to tears when she read those messages.

Real friends stick with you through thick and thin. They do not stay only when times are good, then leave when you are down and out.

At that moment, the door opened from the outside, and Shane walked in briskly.

Wynonna quickly put away her cell phone, dove under the covers, and pretended to be fast asleep.

Shane walked directly to the sofa and sat down. He saw that Wynonna was still asleep in bed and gave a little sneer. He believed that after last night's lesson, she would not dare to try any more tricks.

Wynonna hid her head under her covers, her heart beating very fast.

She had just noticed something astounding. Shane had walked in by himself without help from anyone. How could a blind man walk so quickly without bumping into anything? That did not make sense.

Then, the only logical explanation was that his blindness was a farce!

He'd seen her spike his milk and so secretly swapped their glasses while she was in the bathroom. He'd also seen her use the stun gun last night and messed with it while she had gone out to look for Uncle Ben.

Now, everything made sense.

But why would someone of his status pretend to be blind? Then it was also possible that his coma had also been an act... Now was not the time for her to think about that. She had to quickly contact Jack first.

Wynonna texted Jack while still under the covers and prayed for him to reply immediately.

"Jack, I need your help. Could you help me to destroy Ocean Sky Karaoke Lounge Eastern Street branch's surveillance video data now?"

She did not expect him to reply in almost a blink of the eye. "Wynonna, you're finally willing to contact me? Where are you now? Are you doing well?"

Wynonna texted back quickly. "Don't worry, I'm doing well. I'll tell you more next time. Could you hurry and destroy that surveillance video data for me within the next 30 minutes?"

She had estimated that Alan would take about 30 minutes to reach Ocean Sky Karaoke Lounge from the Muller's Old Mansion.

"Ok," Jack texted his reply without any more questions.

Wynonna knew that Jack was working on it. She firmly gripped her cell phone while waiting anxiously for the result.

After only five minutes, she received a message from Jack. "It's done. Now, can you answer my questions?"

Wynonna bit her lip and finally texted, "I am on Earth," and sent a couple of smiley faces.

Jack texted back, "Forget it. I'll wait till you're ready to tell me."

He knew Wynonna well. Once she has made up her mind, no one could change it.

Wynonna felt a little guilty and texted, "Don't tell anyone how to contact me yet. I will contact you guys again later."

After she had escaped from the hands of Shane, the devil... Jack texted, "Ok, we'll wait for you."

Wynonna put her cell phone away. She felt a little dejected as she thought about her carefree youthful days and how she'd hung out with friends.

She did not know how much time had passed when she heard Shane's cell phone ring. He answered it and said, "What? Someone destroyed the surveillance footage?"
