RACHEL'S POV
My mouth fell gape, and my eyes widened as a mix of fear and horror surged through my veins as they remained locked in on Devon. I froze, the only thought playing on loop in my mind being his disdain for liars. How did he manage to find me? I thought I was careful. Jack told me he had a meeting scheduled for today; he was supposed to be too busy to notice I'd been gone.
He walked in, shutting the door behind him as his gaze narrowed in on me as he roared.
"Answer me, Rachel!" I gulped, pressing my mouth shut as I tried to contain my fear and not let him see the horror I felt. Shit! Shit! Shit! What was I going to do now? I know how much Devon hates being lied to; he would literally kill me if he found out I'd kept my mission here a secret from him all these years.
Even if he doesn't kill me, one thing is certain: he won't look at me the same again. He'll hate me for life. I held his gaze, fear lacing my voice as I lied.
