"Where's his room I need to return this myself?" Agnes eyes widened at my words but I ignored her. I should set things straight. I was already fed up by everything going on
"D... do you have to return it yourself? I can take it to him if you want." She suggested but I quickly brushed her off. I had to set things straight with Evren today, he needed to stay away from me and my life.
"I'll take it myself." I said taking the package from her as I stepped out of the room.
"B... But..."
"No buts Agnes. Can you lead me to wherever he is?" She nodded without another word as we both left the room.
Agnes led me through the halls to another sector of the mansion. It wasn't like the rest of the mansion. Unlike the other side of the mansion this part wasn't so bright. No one had to tell me I was stepping into the devil's lair with every step I took.
Have I made the right decision? Should I have let Agnes return the package instead? I wasn't ready to meet Evren, at least not now. Not after what he did days ago.
My heart suddenly started beating so fast in my chest. The thought of seeing Evren made me want to disappear and hide beneath the sheets.
I knew if I looked into those eyes one more time I'll finally be bewitched completely. The further we walked into that side of the mansion, the harder it got for me to breath. The halls were dark and I could already feel Evren's presence in here. I shuddered at the thought of him.
"Master Evren is usually in his study when he gets back from work so I assume he's here right now." I heard Agnes shaky voice, I could tell she is as nervous as I am.
She led me silence again till we were standing before a large black door. My heartbeat intensified but I knew I had to put up an act before Agnes. I couldn't show her how weak I always am before that man.
One stare from him kills all of the confidence I have and it scares me.
I couldn't chicken out now, not after walking all the way to this place. Besides it's not like I would stay in there more than required, I'll just give him his gift and tell him I don't want anything to do with him then walk away. I nodded at my plans.
Agnes was with me so he wouldn't dare try to kiss me or seduce me again.
After analyzing my actions carefully, it took all the courage in me to knock at the door faintly.
"Come." I heard Evren's deep voice from the other side and my heart dropped. I could feel it beating in a different rhythm. A streak of sweat dropped from my back down to my waist and I gulped.
I held the door knob with shaky hands and pushed it open to be greeted by the man sitting on his chair majestically with his head laid back as he watched the door. He smiled the moment he saw me but frowned when his eyes shifted to my hands. My grip tightened around the package.
I bit my lower lips trying to gather the courage I once had before I got here but it seems to be slowly fading away the more I stared at him. "I came to..."
"This is not the office I asked you to come to?" He cut in before I could say a thing.
"I came to return this. I don't need it." I managed to say walking towards his table and he narrowed his eyes at me.
"Why?" He asked.
"I don't need this." I placed it on the table.
"Are you sure? I know you don't have a phone Adara and you wouldn't get one from anyone in this mansion till you sign those papers. I'm making your life much easy."
"I don't need you to do anything for me. I'm fine as I am. It's not your business if I do not have a cell phone or not. And what makes you think I wouldn't sign those papers?" The smile that once graced his lips fell to be replaced by his natural cold demeanor.
"Do you know the rules of gifts especially when it comes from your master?" My confused gaze met his but he didn't look like he was joking. He had this vicious look on his face that I couldn't understand.
Evren was not my master and I'm not his slave so I couldn't understand a word he was saying.
"What are you talking about?"
"Leave us Berrycloth and get the nosey maid out of here." He ordered and the little man on the sofa quickly got up escorting Agnes out of the room leaving me alone with this monster. I turned my gaze back at Evren to see he wasn't there anymore.
"You were supposed to be at my office for your job today?" I startled at the deep voice behind me and turned to meet his gaze. His eyes roamed around me softly and I gulped.
"I... I don't want the job." I pushed my glasses up my nose. I hated that I always stuttered before him, but I couldn't help it.
"So you prefer walking around the entire city like a fool even if you know that woman will not let you work?"
"I'm not a fool."
"Oh but you are. I gave you an offer, I had the best proposal." He moved to press me against the table.
"And I'm rejecting your proposal. I'd rather walk around the city like a fool than accept any job from you." I said breathlessly to see his jaw click.
"Pity." He said stepping away to stand properly before me but I didn't move from the position I was. "I'm a man of little patient princess. I love to get things done quickly. But you seem to make me want to have patient."
"I... I'm here to return this and nothing more." I said finally standing.
"You'll never have this again after now. Not even my stupid brother can give it to you."
"I don't care." My words were rather... firm this time.
"I would love it if you stay away from me from now on. I'm getting married to your brother as you already know, don't use me as a tool for vengeance. And like I said before I don't need anything from you I'm fine this way." I started walking towards the door.
Evren said nothing to me, he didn't even stop me like I thought he would. "Your rejection would only make me more drawn to you princess." I opened the door and closed it once I was out finally breathing.
"Is everything alright Madam?" Agnes's worried voice could be heard.
"He wouldn't be disturbing me anymore. Let's go try out the dresses." We both walked away with Berrycloth bowing to me.
I and Agnes walked over to where the lady Bancroft sat with a three other women. They were drinking and having fun when we stepped in.
"Adara." The lady called.
"My lady." I responded politely staring at the new faces in the room with her.
"This is Dalton's wife to be, Adara Langford." She introduced me to the women.
"I didn't know the Langford had a second daughter." One of the woman exclaimed as she sipped from the tea she drank.
"Such a beautiful girl, it would have been better if Dalton had married the legitimate child." Another one said sizing me with her eyes like some disgusting piece of shit.
"Now you know why we didn't pick her. She doesn't have what we're looking for." The lady said turning to Agnes.
"Get her dresses Agnes, let her try them out." She said and Agnes brought out the three dresses.
