Did Your Husband Do That?

Sarah's POV:

I tried retracing my thoughts to see if I had done anything wrong since I became Elma, but there was nothing. Then Elma's mother and brothers rushed towards us.

"How could you withdraw such a huge amount of money?" He asked again, and my eyes widened in shock. Did Elma withdraw money from her father's account?

"That was a joint account for you and your brothers; how could you withdraw without their approval?" He kept asking, and I didn't have an excuse, so all I had to do was apologize.

"I am sorry," I said as countless tears rolled down my cheeks. Elma's mom hurried and hugged me before holding my cheeks.

"You are sorry?" He sneered before pointing a finger at me.

"All your life, you have been nothing but a disappointment. A bad daughter, a wicked sister, a negligent mother, and a terrible wife. This is not how we raised you."

"Father" Elma's older brother, George, walked forward and stood close to their dad. "Calm down; there must be a reasonable explanation for why she withdrew such an amount." George tried reasoning with him, but the other brother, Ken, frowned at him.

"There is no reason; that's just how useless her life is. Everything she does is for pleasure."

"I am sorry." I still apologized. I can't believe the tight spot I am in, all because of Elma. "Saying sorry won't fix anything; just refund the money," Ken said, and I didn't reply. I didn't have any money to refund, so I made a mental note to call Elma after this.

"Calm down; she was wrong, and now she is apologizing. And you, Ken, you should stay quiet; she won't refund any money," Elma's mom hissed before holding my cheeks and wiping my tears.

"I never heard my daughter apologize, but she did just now. So that means she is sorry."

I nodded in agreement. I was super sorry because I was scared of receiving another slap for something I didn't do.

"Why do you always take her side?" Ken scolded, and George was quick to pull him back before he approached me.

"Let her be; I will solve this."

"But she…"

"I said let it be," George insisted, and Ken clenched his fist. He looked disappointed in me before walking back to the sitting room.

"You no longer have access to that account; you have a husband and a decent job. Make use of that," her dad concluded before leaving as well.

"Elma" George walked closer before looking me deep into the eyes. "Stop this lifestyle; listen to me for once. Otherwise, you will lose everyone who loves you," he said, more like a warning before leaving as well.

I turned to her mom; she seemed to be the one who supported her the most. "I advise you to leave for now; come back when your dad is calm and apologize to everyone," she suggested, and I nodded. I desperately wanted to leave this place.

"I didn't mean to make everyone sad," I said sincerely, and she nodded before hugging me.

"Take care of yourself, okay? We will talk tomorrow."

I walked back to the car and got in before the car drove away. The driver took a look at me before glancing away.

Right now, I was so angry that I just wanted to call Elma and ask her why she took the money, but the driver was there. He drove for a while before parking the car. I looked outside and noticed we were in a vast reception hall.

The place was decorated with lights and paper flowers, and then there was a huge banner at the top with the words "Welcome to the student-parent gala of 2023" written on it.

"Ma'am, you might want to look in the mirror before going in," the driver said, and I was confused. I took out my phone and looked at the screen, which showed my reflection.

My cheek was red and also had finger shapes there; it was because of the slap.

I didn't bring any makeup to hide it; now how will I go inside? Then an idea came to mind: since I received this slap because of Elma, I was going to go inside and toil with her social status.

"Perfect," I smiled before walking down the car.

"Will you go in?" The driver looked at me, very confused; he probably expected me to use makeup to hide it, but I wouldn't do that.

"Do you have a problem with that?" I raised a brow, and he shook his head in denial.

There were some journalists in front; I shoved my hair to the side, therefore exposing my cheeks for them to see.

And like the queen that Elma thinks she is, I walked towards the entrance, and a lot of camera lights were focused on me.

"Elma Wistold"

"One question, Elma."

"OMG, what's that on her cheeks? Was she slapped?"

"Did your husband do that to you?"

I frowned. What has this got to do with Anthony? But I didn't respond; I was trying to embarrass Elma.

Finally, I got inside the hall. It was filled with parents and their kids dressed so elegantly, and then Kim stood on the stage as she held a mic.

"All thanks to my dad for making me the person I am today," she was giving a speech, then everyone turned their attention to me as chatter filled the hall.

Anthony walked towards me. He grabbed my hand and smiled at everyone before pulling me to our seat.

"Why do you always seek attention?" he whispered.

"What have I done?"

"Everyone is looking at you; I should be the one asking you what you did," He questioned me, and I ignored him before smiling at Kim. She nodded and continued her speech.

"All my life, I have been reminded of the mistake I am. But my dad is always there to assure me that I was the best thing that happened to him. I love you, Dad," she added, and I clapped, but I kind of felt like she didn't have a good relationship with Elma.

Then I felt Anthony's fingers trailing on my cheek. "Who did this?" he asked in disbelief. It seems he just noticed it.

"Never mind," I answered. It's not like he cared or could do anything to the person.

"Tell me," he insisted.

"Can everyone just leave me alone?" I said angrily before pushing his hands away. Then I turned my attention back to Kim.

She was done with her speech, so she walked down and came towards us. Anthony kept staring at me, and it felt weird.

"Dad," Kim called. He turned his gaze to her before smiling. And he stood up and hugged her. "I am proud of you; that was a magnificent speech," he said.

"Your mom came," they both looked at me. Kim chuckled, "This is new; I didn't include you in my speech because I wasn't expecting you. What did Dad offer for you to show up?"

"Kimberly," Anthony called, but she didn't stop there.

"You think I didn't find out? He had offered you a diamond necklace and begged you to attend Josh's birthday party, so if that's what it takes for you to be there for us, then don't show up."
