It's Over

Sarah's POV:

I rolled my eyes before following Anthony in. The dining table was lively with Kim, Josh, and their grandparents. They seemed to be having a good time, and it became quiet when they noticed us.

"Father," Josh hurried and hugged Anthony before smiling at me. I shoved my hand in his hair.

"How are you doing?" The kid was just so cute and kind.

"I am fine, mother; grandma made me my favorite," he said happily before rushing back to the table.

"Good evening" I greeted Elma's parents; her mom smiled at me, but her dad ignored me. He was probably disappointed in his daughter; I mean, Elma was doing unreasonable things.

"How are you feeling now, mother?" Anthony asked, and she chuckled.

"I am strong despite my age."

"Elma said you were sick, and that's why she came to see you. I hope you feel better now."

Oh my God, does Anthony never forget a thing? What type of memory does he have?

"Sick? Oh, that's right, but I am fine now." She seemed to have gotten the clue at once, and I sighed in relief.

"You weren't sick; Elma came here because she was interested in the inheritance." Mr. Tyler said angrily, Why would he just expose his daughter like that?

"I see," Anthony said before he sat down to dine. The maids served hot, delicious meals, and I ate in silence while Anthony discussed business with Mr. Tyler and the kids discussed with their grandma.

After dinner, the kids went upstairs with their grandma, while Anthony and I were left alone with Mr. Tyler. I felt like this was a set-up.

"About the divorce, are you still pushing through with it?" he asked with his gaze stuck on Anthony.

"Elma…"

"I am asking you, do you still want to push through with the divorce?" He chimed in, and Anthony looked at me, but I looked at my feet. It was stupid, but it was the best thing to look at at this moment.

"I don't want to," he answered. "My kids will be shattered."

He was ready to stay caged with Elma just for his kid's happiness, but this is something Elma will never do.

"Elma, are you still pushing through with the divorce?" Now it was my time to answer, and I knew the exact answer to that: if Elma didn't want to push through with the divorce, then she would have come back, but she is in Alabama, enjoying life to the fullest.

"Yes," I answered, and I could feel his disappointed gaze on me.

"Anthony wants to stay for his kids; give me a reason why you want to leave."

I bit my lip. Now was the time to improvise an answer. I remember Elma telling me that she couldn't bear to be close to Anthony. There was no love between them, and believe it or not, love and understanding matter a lot in a relationship.

"There is no love, no understanding, no affection, and no loyalty." I mean, he had already made plans with Nel, so why was he still denying the divorce?

"That matters a lot in a relationship," Mr. Tyler stated, and I nodded. I am glad he bought my answer.

"I wish you both well." With that said, he walked upstairs without turning back. Was that it? Has he already given up?

"You say there is no love?" Anthony turned toward me.

"Is there any?" It was very obvious how much they disliked each other, and the enemies-to-lovers theme wouldn't work on them. This isn't some romance novel; it was real life.

"You lose love first."

"And then you lose love as well," I replied, and he sneered.

"Get the kids." Anthony walked out of the house, and I snorted. I walked upstairs while looking around. I touched the balcony, wondering if this was real gold. "Mother," Josh hurried towards me, and I smiled.

"What's wrong?"

"The kids in my school are talking about the KC event; it's organized by Dad, right?" The kid questioned me, and I nodded.

"Pichoo suggested that you make a new basketball jersey for us and let me parade with it; then we could use the jersey for the nationals."

"Who is Pichoo?"

"My chubby friend, have you forgotten him?" He asked in disbelief, and I shook my head in denial.

"I just got a lot on my mind. Go tell your grandparents goodbye and go to the car."

"Of course, mother," he said, running away, and I smiled. His idea was great, and I was going to talk to Anthony about it. So that in case Nel decides to steal the idea, he will know I said it first.

"Elma, come with me," Elma's mother said while standing in front of a door. I walked closer to her, and we got inside the room before she locked it.

I looked around and noticed it was her bedroom, as it had a couple of pictures of her and her husband. "Your dad is angry," she said.

"I didn't take any money." Did Elma take out money again? If yes, then I will be leaving for good; she can't keep implicating me.

"I am not talking about money; I am talking about your divorce. Do you remember when you got pregnant at sixteen and he suggested an abortion? Then, when he found out Anthony was responsible for the pregnancy, he asked you both to get married instead."

I don't know all of that, but did he ask Elma to abort her baby? Won't that be sinning against God? That's murder, and why did he suddenly change his mind when he discovered Anthony was responsible?

"Mr. Wistold and him always dreamt of having their kids married, and after sixteen years of marriage, you ask for a divorce? You are thirty-two and your romance life is over. Do you think you will find love or get into another relationship?" She scolded me, and I raised a brow, confused.

Did she just say my romantic life is over? I am not married, and I don't even have kids. How can a life that hasn't even started end already?
