Our injured national treasure

The sounds of cameras flashing and people eagerly harbouring the waiting area had temporarily turned the physiotherapy wing into a media event. Liberty had had enough of their lack of awareness and disrespect to the patient. She rolled up her scrubs and was fuming in anger.

Despite the rage she felt, she first calmly and politely pleaded her case, "Please, this is a place of healing and we need silence, please think of our patient....", but no one took notice of her, which made her lose control of her motions.

Her face darkened, and she stiffened her voice, "I said...this is a hospital. Please leave before I call the police and have all of you arrested...I will start with you sir. Just so you know, I never forget a face.", she pointed at a bald man who nervously put away his camera, and began to move backwards causing everyone to follow suit. "Thank you.", she said with a sharp gaze, making everyone flinch as they scattered back to the hole they came from,

Just then the security guard appeared and she turned to him with the same gaze, "You're late Enzo. You can take care of the rest. Please find out how it happened so we can stop it from happening again. We need to make sure that the privacy of our patients is not violated by vultures such as those...",

The young man bowed his head respectfully, "I am sorry Liberty. I will do as you say", then continued to clear the rest of the lobby, including the parking lot.

"You know I always forget how scary you can be...", said a woman with short hair, holding a blue patient file,

Her eyes instantly lit up, and a smile covered her face, "Cleo! What are you doing here?? And what is with the commotion??"

She excitedly scurried closer to Liberty and whispered, "....you haven't heard, apparently a national treasure had an accident and was brought here. Apparently, he was hit with a bat trying to protect a fan. Security only caught up late."

Liberty's eyes widened, "What? And how?", she turned to her confused, "...and why are you here? Did the patient injure his head as well?"

Her face darkened and she sighed exhaustingly, "It's a small bump - but they wanted to be sure it was nothing serious - hence I am here", she whimpered, "I am shadowing Dr Cherry today...please pray for my soul..."

Liberty pulled her in for a soft hug, "You poor baby, I feel sorry for you...let me guess, you are now off to the lab"

She sprung from her embrace, "How did you know!!! After that, I have to walk all the way down to the first floor to do my rounds...then come back here again to monitor our national treasure-", she whined causing Liberty to chuckle at her, she hugged her again, "I am sorry swee-",

A deep authoritative voice echoed behind them, "That's sweet but this is a hospital...not a support group. Do your jobs!"

In the blink of an eye, they jumped back into their formal posture. "Yes, Dr. Cherry. Sorry, Dr. Cherry," they said in unison before turning to give each other looks of support, and Cleo disappeared into one of the elevators.

The man stared into Liberty's eyes not hiding his disapproval of her, "Liberty...I didn't know you were on call today-", he sneered,

Before Liberty could respond, Dr. Mors jumped into her defence, "Dr. Cherry. She's with me...please don't give her any grief - this is the physio wing, so I don't think she's lost. Come Liberty.",

Liberty bowed her head to Dr. Cherry before dashing behind Dr. Mors, "Yes Dr. Mors, bye Dr. Cherry.",

She didn't know where the doctor was headed, she was just happy to be away from Dr. Cherry, that man made it clear that he didn't like her. Dr. Mors' footsteps picked up a pace making her run,

"Dr. is something wrong?", she panted behind her, "Why are we running..."

The doctor chuckled, "Please...speak for yourself with your short legs, I am not running. Anyway, we will be there soon...here, take this-" She opened the patient's file on a tablet and handed it to Liberty, "The patient is Jason Parker suffered from a fractured collarbone from being hit by a bat-"

"Wait...the National Treasure who is a hero is Jason!", Liberty gasped,

"Yes, and you will do well to tone down that shock - you are a doctor, act like one-", her mentor said nonchalantly,

"Yes Dr. Mors", she murmured, 'Poor Mr. Milo', she thought

"He wants to stay in the hospital until he's ready to begin physiotherapy. I don't know why, but he chose you to be his therapist-", she suddenly said, "Despite telling him that you are in training-"

Liberty was instantly hit by a shockwave, "Sorry...but since this is a high profile case, shouldn't someone with more experience-shouldn't we try to convince him again-"

"I told him but he insisted on you ...but don't worry. I will be there to guide you...after all, you are not allowed to consult without a supervisor - just think of it as another training.", she stopped in front of a private room door with his name, and then turned to her with a smile, "Are you ready??"

"Yes...I am", she muttered, "It's not like I have any choice...."

"Okay, here we go...", Dr. Mors opened the door to a man sitting on a bed with a plaster on his forehead and a shoulder sling. His eyes lit up when he saw Liberty walking behind Dr. Mors,

"Mr Parker, as requested- I have brought Liberty...but please note that she's unauthorised to consult without an advisor and that's why I am here. Unless is the administration of medicine or regular check-ups, I will be here as well. This is for both our insurance - I hope you understand."

He nodded without taking his eyes off Liberty, the silver lining of his injury was standing in front of him, "Liberty. I have been looking forward to seeing you again- well, not like this but, I can take any moment that gives me the pleasure to talk to you -"

Liberty became flustered, this was indeed unexpected, but those eyes, those mesmerising eyes, she'd only ever seen them once four years ago, she smiled warmly, "Hi Coco..."

"Coco?", Dr. Mors asked curiously, "That's what you called him earlier - I got the feeling that you guys knew each other, how do you know her-"

Without hesitation, Jason declared, "She's my first love". and Liberty coughed in shock,

"First what??", her eyes widened.
