Raven picked the phone from the girl's hand, turning it off, he said, "You don't want to do that. Now run along and forget everything that happened here, little girl." His voice low and chilly to the bone.

He's a hitman, a hacker, a serpent slithering through the city's underbelly. Not a hero, not even close. The mafia's ghost in the machine, shadows his only companions.

Then, there's her. Bookish, buried in debt and dreams, juggling endless shifts and late-night study sessions. Sunflower yellow amidst the grimy alleys, oblivious to the danger lurking beneath her hopeful smile. "Plain," they call her, "basic." But her light, it's undeniable.

After breakfast, Raven took Lily straight to school, and they didn't have any other conversation. It was as if Raven's mind was occupied, that he didn't even look at Lily when she turned to look at him at intervals.

When they got to the school gate, Lily had finally given up that Raven wouldn't talk to her because of how serious he looked right now and maybe he had something more important to do. She touched the door handle to open it.

"Don't pout, Puffin," Raven said, moving his hand away from the wheel. He touched Lily's hair gently.

Lily rolled her eyes, "I wasn't pouting," she muttered, still looking outside the window.

Raven leaned forward and pulled her into a small hug, "Don't worry, everything is going to be just fine. Make sure you don't leave the school on your own for any reason. I won't send anyone to come get you on my behalf. I will come back. You have your phone and the taser, right?"
