T-12 Days to Incident

#In the Security Guard’s Room Near School Entrance

Mr. Kenneth Daniels, a middle-aged security guard, was casually sitting in the security booth near the entrance. He was reading the newspaper and taking sips from a can of iced tea, courtesy of Tom.

While reading, Mr. Kenneth spoke without moving his gaze from the newspaper: “I’m reading the newspaper so attentively that I cannot see anyone else here. The iced tea can was suddenly here, so I am helping myself.”

Tom smiled. He had a good relationship with the man. Once he explained what was happening and why he needed to watch the gates from the booth, Mr. Kenneth was more than eager to extend his helping hand.

“Are you sure you know how she looks?” Mr. Kenneth asked while reading the paper.

“With my eyes closed...I mean, think so...not because she is so pretty...I mean...” Tom was fumbling with his words, embarrassed.
