Resentment Corpse

The current scenario appears quite mysterious. According to the logic that the main hall's door locks automatically upon entry, there shouldn't have been any visitors here before our arrival. Who opened the lid of that urn?

I gazed at the sealed main hall, contemplating two possible explanations. Firstly, there might be a mechanism inside the large urn. Someone entered before us, opened the urn from the outside, triggered the mechanism inside, and then left. Alternatively, the situation could be worse— the large urn was opened from the inside, and something silently emerged.

Though I am reluctant to admit it, the first possibility seems highly unlikely. Any visitor would undoubtedly leave traces. Yet, our recent search revealed no signs of anyone else being here. Moreover, ancient mechanisms mostly relied on levers and gears, with some utilizing hydraulics. This large urn seems rather straightforward, hanging from the beam without any direct control or locking chain. It's inconceivable for there to be a computer inside controlling the switch.

Upon hearing this, the individuals below immediately aimed their guns upward, fearing the emergence of some eerie entity.

Er Ye below inquired, "Can you see what's inside the urn?"

Since the two individuals climbing up hadn't brought guns for convenience, they cautiously approached with daggers drawn. The one in front peered inside and responded, "It seems like water, yet not entirely."

The bald guy cursed, "Damn it, what is it?"

The man scratched his head, "Doesn't quite look like water; it's too turbid, more like mucus. There doesn't seem to be anything inside."

The bald guy dismissed it, "Ignorant fool, does your family bury a pot of snot in the tomb when someone dies? Forget it, quickly cover the lid and wipe off the dust."

He then turned to Er Ye, "Er Ye, aren't the burial items in the tomb the deceased's favorite things in life? Do you think the deceased's wife was particularly fond of eating pickled vegetables?"

Er Ye ignored him. After the dust on the urns was cleared, he began calculating the path again.

Idle, I observed these bronze urns. Something felt off, and suddenly, at one urn mouth, I noticed a protrusion resembling a lock. Could these urns have originally been locked, and the recent opening was externally forced?

Pondering this, I shifted my viewpoint but couldn't get a clear look. Turning to the two climbers, I intended to inquire, only to find them heading towards a corner of the main hall. As I caught up with them, an uneasy feeling struck me.

Their walking posture was rigid, and most importantly, their heels weren't touching the ground. This was possession by spirits!

Terrified, I was about to step back when the two individuals abruptly turned around. Their faces were ghastly, with a devilish smile. Just like the clay figurines on both sides of the main hall, their appearance sent shivers down my spine. They moved with agility, swiftly climbing two pillars with a combination of hands and feet, advancing towards the beams.

I exclaimed, and others turned their attention. Pointing at the rapidly climbing figures, I made a gesture as if firing a gun.

As our team members, even though Xiao He didn't understand what they were, he immediately unlocked his gun and took two shots. From my viewpoint, both shots hit the left person, creating two bloody holes. Strangely, the person seemed unaffected, continuing to climb upwards in a lizard-like manner.

At this point, the bald guy's team also reacted, firing at the two climbers. Due to the dark interior and the agile movements of the climbers, few bullets hit them.

I ran towards them, shouting, "Be careful, those two individuals don't have their heels on the ground; it seems they've been contaminated by something unclean."

While everyone was engrossed, Er Ye, gazing at the top of the main hall, suddenly exclaimed, "Oops!" He instructed, "Don't let them get near the bronze urns."

My heart sank, realizing that those individuals were likely aiming to open the urns and release whatever was inside. Er Ye continued, "These urns might be ancient coffins, and the things inside, when exposed to blood, could reanimate corpses. We must not let them come out."

Understanding their objective allowed us to prevent them from approaching. The bald guy's men surrounded the large urn, ready to open fire if the climbers came closer. After several rounds of shooting, the climbers either perished or hid, disappearing from our view.

Er Ye beckoned and instructed Zhao Gu to take out several packs of glutinous rice. He then looked at the dark ceiling of the main hall, "Those two individuals probably have been poisoned by the corpse. Bullets won't work; we need to extract the corpse poison with glutinous rice. And... besides us, there's another big one here. It has been with us since we entered."

My heart sank further; the least desirable scenario had unfolded. It seemed something had crawled out of the large urn, and it was above us.

All eyes focused on the top of the main hall. Suddenly, one of the bald guy's subordinates tapped his shoulder, indicating he should look towards a pillar at ten o'clock. It turned out that this guy had sharp eyes and spotted a piece of clothing behind the pillar.

The bald guy, equally shrewd, made a few hand gestures and took his men to surround the area. The scene fell silent, with everyone afraid to disturb the entity. Zhao Gu and I stood at the back, careful not to make a sound. Zhao Gu crouched in front of me, not turning back, and asked, "Are you hungry?"

Surprised, I muttered, "Uh," wondering why he'd ask such a question at this crucial moment. Nevertheless, I whispered back, "How can I eat at a time like this?"

He wiped his neck and complained, "Well, your saliva dripped onto my neck."

"What?" I looked down and indeed saw a few drops of viscous liquid on his neck. The problem was, it wasn't my saliva. This place leaking water would be strange.

Following his neck, I looked up, only to find an unknown creature descending along a pillar, like a drowned woman. However, this creature had a significantly distended belly, naked, and continuously dripping liquid. The reason I couldn't confirm it was human was its grotesquely ugly face, where the facial features seemed melded together like kneaded dough, making me nauseous.

Suddenly, my heart pounded. Simultaneously horrified and terrified, I tilted my gun wildly, firing bullets without any rational thought. Although my actions were undoubtedly panicked, they effectively forced the creature to retreat, forced back onto the beam.

The bald guy's team almost simultaneously opened fire. Seven or eight people unleashed a barrage of bullets, seemingly breaking the creature apart, causing it to fall from above.

With a loud clang, the cheers of relief filled the air. However, at this moment, an untimely sound echoed from the main hall. Everyone paused, trying to recall the source of the noise. It seemed we were collectively remembering what could produce such a sound. My heart sank; it appeared the least desirable event had occurred.
