Dawn got off the bus and realized it was late. She knew that her mother would be worried since the school would notify her that Dawn was absent. Dawn didn't want to worry her mother, so she decided to take the quickest route to the house.
Dawn opened the door, and that's when she heard her mother's voice calling for her. Dawn can hear the urgency, worries, and anger in her mother's voice.
"Dawn, get in this kitchen now. I had a call from the school today and found out that you weren't there. Where have you been, young lady? I don't want to hear any excuses." Said Dawn's mother, Amelia.
Dawn saw that her mother was sitting in the chair before standing up, then walking towards me with her hands on her hips. You can see the anger on her, and she looked at my body to make sure I wasn't injured. After finding no injuries, she grabbed me and hugged me so tight, like she was relieved to know I'm alright.
After letting me go, she asked me again, "Where have you been? Why weren't you at the school today? I had a call from the school and they told me that you weren't in any of your classes. I was worried that I was about to go to the police."
"I'm sorry, mom. I saw an injured bird, so I called one of the animal control officers. I didn't want to leave the bird there; it took awhile for them to come. Afterwards I went on the bus, then I fell asleep. I was worn out, then I woke up and realized it was late. I knew you would get worried about me, so I got home as soon as I could. I'm sorry, mom; I didn't mean to worry you and miss the school as well." I said, and she hugged me again.
She looked at me and shook her head; she was just relieved to see that I'm okay. Then she said, "It's alright; I'm just glad you're alright. I was starting to think you were kidnapped or something. Why didn't you call me?"
Then I replied, "I didn't charge my phone all the way last night and died as well."
She looked at me speechless and told me, "You will be starting to charge your phone every night from now on, and I will be checking to make sure it's charged. Lastly, you will be going to bed early since you were so worn out so easily. I can't have you start missing school and disappearing on me again."
Afterwards, my mom went back to the kitchen so she could finish cooking steak and green beans. I waved at her and went to my room with my backpack.
I know that my mom will always love me unconditionally, but some lies amongst the truth are necessary when the truth is too difficult to believe. It is not always the truth that sets us free, but rather the necessary lies we tell others to survive.
