Acquaintance

Abby adjusted the strap of her handbag as she stepped into her favorite café. It was a rare Saturday afternoon when she wasn't swamped with meetings or company matters. She planned to enjoy her cappuccino in peace, maybe read a book or catch up on some light work. As she approached the counter, she noticed a familiar blonde head in the corner. It was Nicole, the woman who had bumped into her at the company dinner a few weeks ago.

"Abby! Over here!" Nicole called out, waving enthusiastically.

Abby smiled and walked over to join her. "Nicole, what a surprise! How are you?"

"I'm great! I didn't expect to see you here. Do you come here often?" Nicole asked, her tone light and friendly.

"Yes, it's one of my favorite spots," Abby replied as she took a seat. "What about you?"

"Just passing through the neighborhood and thought I'd grab a coffee," Nicole said, her eyes bright with curiosity. "I'm glad I ran into you. I've been meaning to get in touch."
