Despite being physically exhausted, Raquel couldn’t sleep. Her mind was racing as it replayed the scene of their lips touching briefly over and over again.
She couldn’t help, but think how soft Ryker’s lips were against hers and that she wanted to do it again. On purpose this time. When she processed what she was thinking, her cheeks heated up in shock as her heart tried to leap out of her chest.
Her heart’s pounding soon filled her ears and the carriage. She quickly closed her eyes and pretended to sleep, hoping Ryker wouldn’t realize what she was thinking.
She couldn’t even believe what she was thinking and knew Ryker would be disgusted if he ever found out. Luckily, Raquel soon felt Ryker’s body loosen up under her. Relief filled her, glad that he thought she was sleeping.
He hadn’t heard her beating heart, but her luck wouldn’t last forever. She quickly began counting in her head, trying to dispel the memory from her mind and calm herself.
