Heartache from unrequited love

I always believed he would contact me someday, and that day finally came. He called and explained why he couldn't attend classes regularly. He also mentioned that his parents were planning to arrange his marriage with his cousin. I couldn't hold back and confessed my love for him. To my surprise, he accepted it and told me he had been longing to hear those words. He promised he would handle his parents.A year passed, and even though I didn't have a mobile phone, I talked to him secretly using coin telephones. These small actions made our bond stronger. But one day, he shocked me by saying he had talked to his parents about marrying me, but they didn't approve. We were only 19 at the time, and he asked if we could elope. I didn't like the idea because we were too young to get married.Suddenly, he stopped contacting me. I thought he was just busy, but then he gave me a devastating shock by inviting me to his wedding. My eyes were full of tears, and my heart was in immense pain. I couldn't find the words to express how much it hurt.

Despite what he did, he even sent me his engagement pictures. I decided to be strong, so I attended his wedding, pretending to be happy with a big smile on my face. I saw that he was so happy; he didn't even look at me while he was tying the thali to his cousin. My heart broke into pieces; it felt like someone was stirring a knife in my heart. I couldn't bear the pain and went back home. I couldn't share this with anyone because our relationship was a secret.

I thought that was the end of my first love. I realized that my love for him was true and deep, while his feelings for me were just attraction. My love was unrequited.

I realized that not everyone is meant to be loved the way they love someone else, but I couldn't bear the thought that he didn't love me.
