Shiller and Adam hit it off right away.
He's not entirely doing this just for the official origin of his new alias, the main reason he agreed was because the cosmos was barely holding together.
The lifespan of the cosmos is limited, and the lifespan of the Marvel Universe isn't determined by any scientific principles but rather by one thing, popularity.
Popular characters never die, unknown minor roles who are sidelined are no different from the dead, and the top priority is the survival of the company. If the company goes under due to poor comic sales, all universes would be destroyed.
As I've explained before, if the messy Multiverse setup doesn't undergo a complete reboot, a decline in popularity is inevitable, and the lifespan of the cosmos will be drastically shortened.
Shiller's activities in the cosmos weren't entirely without consequences. Let alone his own travels between universes, even the teleportation gates opened by the Spider Legion from the Nick Organization made the universe walls full of holes.
In more remote universes, Spider Man's coming and going isn't a problem. But in places already plagued by disasters like the Prime Universe, the butterfly effect caused by Shiller was the last straw that breaks the camel's back.
Before Shiller came to the Prime Universe as a Skrull with the Gray mist, he had observed it from outside. Those in the know saw it as a cosmic bubble, others thought it was a floating lump of coal.
The Prime Universe was not just full of holes but covered with them, and even these were barely holding on. Even if it was influenced by Shiller, it couldn't collide with the Ultimate Universe because it probably wouldn't last much longer. So, a major reboot is inevitable.
But Shiller's previous opposition to the reboot wasn't just because there was no corporate compensation. It seriously restricted the development of cosmic life.
But under Adam's explanation and Shiller's understanding, he realized that many universes had been rebooted over and over again because the original bugs were just too numerous. Without a reboot, the story couldn't go any further.
After the major reboot, most settings will be rewritten. Unreasonable parts will be erased. It's like changing the original poorly written code into more precise and efficient code. This way, the stability of the cosmos will increase and won't always need to be rebooted due to contradictory settings.
This brings me to an underlying setting of the Marvel Universe, the "Infinite Multiverse".
every thought, every decision of anyone can extend into a different branch universe. These universes are infinite.
But this setting didn't exist when Marvel was first established. It was developed over time. Before this setting existed, when editors wanted to include good ideas in their comics, they had to modify the settings.
This led to many old universes being modified or forcibly stuffed with a lot of settings which is the main reason why the universe is unstable and keeps rebooting.
As times change. The concept of Infinite Multiverse will be further deepened. Afterwards, when an editor wants to realize his idea, he can just create his own branch universe, instead of causing a hassle in the existing universes.
So now all new creative works will be done in new cosmic bubbles, without disturbing the original universe from the overall perspective, which should be beneficial.
At least the universes that have already been set up don't have to worry about being a superhero with a happy family life today, and be transformed into a tragic hero who has to avenge his family's sudden death tomorrow. Just when revenge is served, the universe gets rebooted.
This setting also encourages more possibilities for universes, not just duplicate the stories of Prime Universe, and let all the heroes go round and round in the same destiny.
Therefore, Shiller agreed to Adam's request. However, he believed that it wasn't necessary to create a big event from scratch, and that it would be a bit difficult to use the plot from the previous Secret War.
Because if we go down the path of the Secret War, Reed will need to obtain the power of the Transcendent. The Transcendent is just for fun, Reed is a troublemaker. If Reed gets the power of the Transcendent, Battleworld will be in big trouble.
So, even though we want to use the existing storyline, there's no need to cause any more cosmic collisions. It's better to just keep writing based on the dilapidated state of the Prime Universe. It can also lay a foundation for Shiller's new alias origin story.
Adam thought about it and let Shiller do his own thing. The benefit of hiring Shiller is that although his salary is high, none of it is for nothing.
Although Adam let Shiller freestyle, he was actually pretty curious about how Shiller would do it, so he applied for a VIP observation seat to come to the world within the ring and watch Shiller's operation.
This VIP seat is not for free. Considering the dilapidated state of the Prime Universe, Adam gave Shiller some access to patch up the damage and holes appearing in the structure of the Prime Universe with the Gray mist.
Otherwise, given the precarious state of the Prime Universe, anything Shiller does would be like carving on a balloon, without much room for maneuver.
So, the first thing Shiller did when he landed in the Prime Universe was to use the properties of the Gray mist and fill in some structures of the Prime Universe with gray mist factors, essentially prolonging the life of the Prime Universe.
