Chapter 3431: Divine Doctor with Wonderful Skills (38)

"Let's talk about Dr. Foster again," Arrogant said, removing his arms from the table and placing them in front, then continued, "You said he killed your doctor, but why is it that I only hear praise about him from others?"

"Because that is just a facade he puts on!" Henry exclaimed, "He is a shameless coward, and a damned thief!"

"Oh? That doesn't sound like the words for someone who tormented you," Arrogant sneered, then said, "If what happened in your dream is true, that he captured and tortured you for no reason, shouldn't you be calling him a brutal Hangman, an evil Butcher?"

Henry opened his mouth. Shiller noticed that he had blurted out his true feelings in desperation. But it was clearly a coerced error. The conjecture Arrogant made earlier had pushed his psychological defenses to the brink of collapse.

"You think he's weak, yet a weak person wouldn't have the courage to pull out someone's teeth amid screams, nor slice their tongue. You call him a thief, but I don't think a few teeth and a tongue are worth the risk of kidnapping you."

"He kidnapped me because he wanted ransom from my father! He pulled out my teeth to make my father believe I was in his hands. He cut off my tongue to let my father know he was torturing me, to force him to make a decision quickly..."

"I see," Arrogant said calmly, "He wanted money, so he kidnapped you while you were sick to extort a ransom from your family."

"But from the final outcome, it seems your family didn't pay the ransom. It looks like they didn't care about you at all, they cared more about their money even with your teeth pulled out and your tongue cut."

"They did pay him!" Henry said, "But he is a shameless swindler. He got the ransom, but he still killed me!"

"He got the ransom?!" Shiller's eyes lit up, he said, "How much did he get? Where is the money now?"

"I don't know," said Henry, "but it must have been a large sum. My family was desperate to get me out, they were willing to pay a lot of money!"

Shiller's gaze slowly changed, he said, "Are your family members still alive?"

He calculated with his fingers. 60 years ago, this child was probably seven or eight years old, so now he would be over sixty. If he had any elders, they likely are no longer alive.

Shiller sighed with disappointment.

"Dr. Foster got the money, then decided to cut you loose, take the money, and go far away, becoming a respected doctor. And you ended up trapped here as a Ghost, you really are quite pitiful."

Unexpectedly, Arrogant no longer retorted against Henry's words, but followed along with what he said.

"Dr. Foster's life must have been very successful. He easily got a large sum of startup capital. He could completely use that money to heal the sick and save lives, earning a good reputation, making people think he's a charity-focused good doctor, almost like Jesus reborn, wherever he goes he's adored."

"Of course, he would have a high status. Generally, few would go out of their way to offend a doctor. He could maintain good relationships and those in power, in order to consolidate their rule and make the poor believe they could indeed receive treatment, would surely open doors of convenience for Dr. Foster."

"To show their benevolence, the nobles would surely promote Dr. Foster, make him their guest of honor, invite him to various high-profile gatherings, and discuss at length his experiences in healing the sick at banquets, even shedding frequent tears for his kindness."

"He would surely have a very happy and fulfilling family life. Perhaps he would meet a simple yet strong country girl, or possibly be chosen by a wealthy family's daughter, have a blessed wedding, and then have several adorable children, whom he would raise exceptionally well."

"Then, having lived a joyful old age, he would lie on his sickbed, surrounded by people looking at him with eyes full of worry and reluctance. After his death, countless people would gather around his casket, genuinely mourning."

"Years after his death, he would be known as the greatest doctor in the world, a benchmark in the medical field, with everyone who enters the profession paying him tribute."

"And no one would know that all his success was built on your remains. And you would never have the chance to reveal his true nature to the world. His life had already been defined."

"Enough!" Henry gritted his teeth, "He stole everything from me! All these should have been mine!!!"

"Stolen? Hardly," Arrogant shook his head, "You are you, and he is he. Although he killed you, we cannot deny his talent in medicine. If he had died and you had lived, could you really have become the greatest doctor in the world?"

"Of course I could! It was my talent all along!"

"Having talent and actually acting on it are two different things," Arrogant snorted with scorn, "If, as you say, you were born into a wealthy merchant family, why would you become a doctor, dealing day-to-day with peasants stricken with the plague?"

"If your family loved you as much as you say, they surely wouldn't have agreed either; being a doctor is a very dangerous job. Since your family was not lacking money, why take that risk?"

Shiller then remembered that in this era, being a doctor was not considered a respectable job; it was even seen as quite lowly. Even if he worked in a church, a priest would be despised if it was known that he treated patients.

Because medical treatment was not advanced at the time, infectious diseases were rampant. Once doctors came into contact with patients, they could easily contract the disease and then spread it to those they interacted with. People were very afraid of this, steering clear of doctors. Even royal doctors did not hold high status; at best, they were slightly better off than ordinary doctors.

"In conclusion, even if he hadn't killed you, you wouldn't have achieved such high accomplishments," Arrogant continued shaking his head, "I sympathize with your plight, but since it's already like this, you should just accept it."

"In any case, what he interrupted might not have been the life of a prodigy; more likely, he just cut short the life of an ordinary person who would not have significantly contributed to the world by a few decades."

"Impossible!!! His fame and status should have been mine! If he hadn't killed me, I would have become the greatest doctor in the world!!!"

"Then tell me why," Arrogant said, "I don't see anything about you that resembles a doctor. You are the one who made a mess of the hospital."

Henry's chest heaved rapidly, fog rising around him as he clenched his fists tightly.

"Of course I have a talent, of course I can. Because I am the real Henry Foster! That guy is a thief who stole my body!!"

Shiller's eyes widened slightly, his arrogance revealing a look of understanding.

After thinking for a moment, Shiller also understood what was happening.

Henry spoke rapidly, "He is an evil spirit from who knows where, suddenly took over my body, and then constantly abused and beat me, fighting to take control of my body."

"I just couldn't beat him. He took my body and expelled my soul, leaving me a homeless ghost. He's an absolute bastard!!!"

Shiller and Arrogant exchanged a glance.

"Dissociative Identity Disorder."

"Obviously."

"When did it split?"

"I guess it's related to his mother."

"I think so too."

Arrogant looked at Henry and said, "When did he appear in your body?"

Henry glared at him and said nothing.

"If you won't talk, I will," Shiller continued, "You learned about the sacrifice ritual from somewhere and wanted to sacrifice your mother. And it was at that time, the other you appeared."

"Exactly. He is an evil spirit, because he appeared after I came into contact with Manny. He must be one of Manny's deceased patients who followed me because he wanted to revive."

Shiller then looked at Arrogant and said, "It's rare but not impossible for multiple personalities to be borne out of major disagreements in life choices."

"He must have suffered some abuse before." Arrogant added, "It's possible that his financial difficulties led to discrimination or just being too desperate for money, triggering anxiety due to extreme survival pressures."

"Right. His mother probably brought him through a time of hardship and hunger, making him desperately want to change. After encountering the evil spirit and learning about the sacrifice ritual, he felt he had a chance, and targeted his own mother."

"But one side of his personality also felt affinity towards his mother, which conflicted with his decision. Under immense mental pressure, he split into two personalities. One is Henry, the other is Foster."

"The current question is how Foster managed to kick Henry out." Shiller pondered and then said, "Given that magic exists in this world, it's not impossible. It would have been great if we had that option back then."

Arrogant gave him a sideways glance, then said, "Who were you planning to kick out?"

Shiller retorted without showing any weakness, "That depends on who wants to kick me out."

Both of them turned their heads aside simultaneously.

Then they looked at Henry at the same time.

Their gazes even made Henry take a small step back. Shiller was the first to speak, "Don't be nervous, Henry. We just have some questions to ask you, everything can be discussed as long as you can answer us."

He picked up the paper and pen on the table, asking, "What method did Dr. Foster use to expel you from his body? Was it magic?"

"He... he interfered in my sacrifice ritual, causing me to bear the backlash. He took advantage of my weakness and found the exorcist to expel me from the body."

"After being expelled, you couldn't return?"

"The exorcist set up a protective array on his body. I tried several times but couldn't return. That damn, despicable thief."

Shiller ignored Henry's latest outburst and continued asking, "So why is the figure that appeared in your memory an adult Dr. Foster? Weren't both of you children back then?"

Arrogant tapped the table lightly, then said, "He must have later learned about Dr. Foster and seen his photo. Out of jealousy, he imagined him to be a perverse child abuser."

"That makes sense, such people are best at deceiving themselves."

"But the things that Dr. Foster did must also have some meaning." Arrogant speculated, "He pulled out Henry's teeth and nails, then cut off his tongue, probably signifying he was gradually defeating Henry in the battle for the body, and restricting Henry's activities, making him gradually unable to speak, walk, and ultimately completely lose control of the body."

"And when Henry was about to strike at his mother, he overpowered the control of the body, interfering in the ritual at the crucial moment, causing the ritual to fail, and he used this opportunity to severely injure Henry, successfully expelling him from the body."

"Then why doesn't Henry blame Dr. Foster, but instead blames Manny, seeing her as the main culprit?" Shiller mused, then paused and said, "I get it. Dr. Foster and Manny must be in cahoots."
