Chapter 3856: The School Doctor's "Daily Life" (34)

Lucifer felt that this Marvel was uninhabitable.

On one side, Chris enthusiastically asked him whether he would like to battle Heaven and Hell again. On the other side, Mephisto was pestering him endlessly about what was going on with Shiller. Why do these people never know how to be reserved?!

Shiller also felt that this magical school was unbearable.

In the battle of the Magic Forest, all the Batmen who went in got injured. Now, the school hospital was overcrowded. As the school doctor, he was overwhelmed, wrapping wounds here, disinfecting there, and listening to their endless bickering.

Although the initial battle didn't threaten the Batmen, Lucifer and Mephisto still held back. However, the Batmen weren't blind; when they saw the grand entrance of Mephisto, of course, they ran for it.

Here's the thing: Mephisto used illusion magic to create a field of magma, which even Lucifer could be deceived by. Naturally, the Batmen couldn't discern the truth. They realized their running speed was no match for the speed of the magma's spread, so they didn't foolishly stay on the ground and instead flew into the air.

But most Batmen didn't fly well. They had gathered to make up for their flying skills, but halfway through, Lego Batman got captured, so their practice was incomplete. Moreover, the terrain in the Magic Forest was much more complicated than on a lawn.

So, the group wasn't actually injured by Mephisto's gang but rather got hurt after flying into tree branches or colliding with each other and falling down in clusters.

Of course, this is just their side of the story. As a professional doctor, Shiller could tell that someone must have been recklessly charging in the air, causing the collective crash.

Though it seemed likely that Bruce did it, this time it actually wasn't him. Because Mephisto appeared so suddenly, he was the first to flee, not joining the main group and thus unable to unleash his chaos-causing prowess.

Shiller suspected this because Night Owl was once again the most severely injured. Surely, it was either Primary Universe Batman or Arkham Batman being shady in the air; otherwise, Night Owl wouldn't have broken a rib.

Night Owl's injuries were indeed problematic. Breaking a rib wasn't a big deal, but it pierced his lung. Fortunately, the magic healing was timely; a bit later and a critical condition notice might have been required.

The others were injured much less severely. Primary Universe Batman sprained his ankle but was fine after the swelling subsided; Arkham Batman only had some scratches, with just a bit of bleeding from a branch scratch on the back of his neck. Most Batmen only had bruises or sprained ankles and were fine with some ointment.

After Shiller treated them all, everyone gradually left. Night Owl lay on the hospital bed with eyes full of longing, but his injuries were too severe for him to leave.

Watching Night Owl lie hopelessly on the bed, Shiller sighed. Where did Night Owl find the courage to challenge Primary Universe Batman? It was utterly futile; he was played with effortlessly.

Primary Universe Batman played dirty in the air to make sure Night Owl was bedridden. Although the exams scheduled for the afternoon were cancelled, they would still happen sooner or later. Even if they were delayed until everyone healed, Night Owl, lying bedridden and unable to review, wouldn't have a chance against the lively students.

Though the exams were for passing rather than ranking, Night Owl wasn't confident in every subject. For instance, courses like Magic History and Universe Studies, which he had never attended before, were already subjects he planned to cram for before the exams due to his good memory. Now, without time to review, the likelihood of passing was low.

If all the other Batmen passed and Night Owl didn't, his progress would once again fall behind.

From the time he entered school, Primary Universe Batman had been competing fiercely, never missing a chance to hold Night Owl back, plotting meticulously just to keep Night Owl constantly lagging behind.

So far, it was working very well. Night Owl was genuinely being pushed to the brink of a breakdown. For the past few days, his eyes had been fixated on Shiller, and as soon as Shiller came by, he would ask when he could recover.

About three days later, Strange finished repairing the Magic Forest and remembered to trouble the Batmen. But it was obviously too late. They had all gotten their stories straight, firmly insisting they went to rescue Lego Batman, leaving Strange with no recourse.

This deeply moved Lego Batman, who had been following Primary Universe Batman these few days, clearly having joined the Justice Batmen's side. Perhaps that was also part of Primary Universe Batman's plan.

Never underestimate Lego Batman. Though he was just a plastic minifigure, with the attribute of a comedic character, he was basically invincible and particularly adept at destroying serious or evil atmospheres, being the natural enemy of villains like Night Owl.

Since he couldn't trouble the Batmen, Strange instead sought out Shiller to ask why he summoned Mephisto.

"Do you really think it's realistic to prevent the Batmen from getting involved with contracts?" Shiller asked from behind his desk, "How much longer can you keep them away? What means do you have left to stop them?"

Strange immediately fell silent. He sighed and said, "I admit, I underestimated them. Teaching such a group of super geniuses is even harder than I had imagined. Many professors have nothing more to impart to them."

"They will soon get in touch with the practice. By that time, they are bound to want to approach the Demon God of our cosmos. But we can't really let them become contractors of the Demon God. Batman is too capable, and the staff at The Holy Sanctuary can't compete with them. When they leave, we'll have to deal with a flood of complaints."

"So are you planning on letting Mephisto contract them?"

"We can let them understand what most Demon Gods are like through Mephisto. That will be enough, most Batmen already have a sense. Even if they do contract, the Demon God won't take away strength. A simulation exam process will suffice."

"It's not that simple, is it?"

Shiller smiled and said, "Of course. Some mysterious existences on their side are far more ferocious than ours, almost impossible to communicate with, with thoughts full of world destruction. Batman wants to deal with such existences and gain strength from them, needs a lot of things. But we just need to make them understand one point."

"What?"

Shiller shook his head and said, "You'll know when the time comes."

They started discussing the matter of skipping the grade exam again. Since it's already been delayed for several days, they couldn't put it off any longer, and finally decided on the exam for tomorrow noon.

Night Owl, who received the news, was dumbfounded. Although his wounds had pretty much healed, he really hadn't studied at all and was going to take the exam unprepared. Was he really going to fail?

So, he ignored his not fully healed wounds, limped to the library, and started pulling an all-nighter to study. Relying on his super memory, he memorized almost all the theoretical knowledge. But when he got up early the next morning and tried to practice flying, he lost control and fell again with a thud.

This time he was done for. His rib, which was almost healed, fractured again. He ended up in the school's hospital once more. Despite forcing himself to get up before the exam started, the intense pain from his rib made it impossible for him to perform well in the flying test, earning him a failing grade on the spot.

This exam was a qualifying one, meaning you had to pass all subjects to skip the grade, but if you failed even one subject, you couldn't skip. Unfortunately, this time Night Owl was the only one who couldn't successfully skip a grade.

Even Lego Batman, who didn't seem to have great grades, managed to skip. The subjects that required memorization weren't that difficult, and the flying class, which was hard for most Batmen, was a breeze for him, so he successfully skipped a grade too.

Now all the Batmen moved directly from the first year to the fourth year. The school's program was only five years, and the fifth year was mostly for internships, equivalent to jumping straight to the highest level.

With a low number of fourth-year students and many teachers, basically every two or three students could have one Grand Mage, akin to elite small class teaching. The Batmen eagerly absorbed the knowledge and inevitably came into contact with contract-related content, which made Night Owl grind his teeth.

You see, he had taken a huge risk to bargain with a tiger to get some contract knowledge from Saphire. And other Batmen just openly learned it like this? Then what was the point of his collusion with Saphire?

Night Owl truly couldn't endure it anymore. He ran to the dangerous Dark Forest every day, dealing with the terrifying Black Magicians, and just because of one small mistake, not only had his progress been caught up, he was even at a risk of being left behind.

Watching as Primary Universe Batman gathered more and more Batmen to that side, even Night Owl's staunch supporters showed signs of wavering. He knew things couldn't go on like this.

One evening, he went near Saphire's hut in the Magic Forest. Seeing the lights on inside, he knew Saphire was there, so he eagerly stepped up to knock on the door.

"You actually dare to come back?" Shiller said, squinting his eyes, "Your so-called gift for me was bringing an Angel contractor who almost destroyed my base?!"

"That was a misunderstanding, you have to believe me." Night Owl said, gritting his teeth, "I really don't know why an Angel showed up. Perhaps it's the conspiracy of the Supreme Magician. Don't you want to find out what's going on?"

"Do you think I can still count on you?" Shiller said disdainfully, turning back inside the house, "I heard you didn't even pass the skipping grade exam."

This was like stabbing Night Owl in the heart. He coughed twice in anger, and his rib, which wasn't fully healed, hurt even more.

"But they really are a nuisance," Shiller snorted coldly, "especially that winged kid. He wasn't part of my plan and might ruin my good deeds."

"I can help you," said Night Owl, "but I've fallen into their trap and lagged far behind them. I need more powerful strength."

Shiller was silent for a while, seemingly in hesitation. After a long pause, he spoke in a low tone, "I can help you contact an exceedingly powerful Demon God. Serve him, and you'll get everything you want."
