Chapter 22: The Wolf Among the Sheep

Amidst the cacophony of music, eleven o'clock arrived.

"Snap~."

The auction hall's lights flickered on and the music stopped.

The ghouls in the center of the venue stopped moving their bodies; some ghouls grumbled discontentedly, but no ghoul dared to cause trouble.

"Gentlemen, ladies, the auction is about to begin, please take your seats."

A voice with an odd accent came through, belonging to a ghoul host wearing a clown mask.

"Mr. Clown, are there any surprises tonight? The last auction left me quite dissatisfied."

A ghoul dressed as a noblewoman spoke up.

All the ghouls present wore masks since ghouls cannot have their faces recognized by humans. The same goes between ghouls themselves.

If two ghouls had a feud and one knew the other's identity, reporting to the CCG would likely mean doom for the reported ghoul.

Most ghouls are like mice in the sewers, hiding in darkness.
