As Emma returned home from a hectic day at work, Lily excitedly approached her with an official-looking paper – an invitation to a parents' meet-up at school. Lily, beaming with enthusiasm, couldn't wait to share the news with her mama.

"Mama! Look at this!" Lily exclaimed, presenting the formal school invitation, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

Emma, visibly exhausted and preoccupied with work-related thoughts, glanced at the invitation but couldn't fully engage in the moment. "Not now, Lily. I am busy at the moment," she responded, her tone unintentionally dismissive.

Lily's excitement deflated instantly, her shoulders drooping as disappointment clouded her face. "Oh, it's okay," she said softly, trying to mask her feelings.

After a comforting dinner, Emma guided Lily to sleep in her own bed. As Emma tidied up the living room, she noticed the invitation that Lily had eagerly tried to show her earlier. Curiosity sparked, Emma opened the envelope and discovered it was an invitation for a parents' meeting at the school the following day.

Feeling a mix of emotions, Emma decided to step out onto the balcony for some fresh air, clutching the invitation in her hand. The cool night breeze offered a moment of solace.

"What's that?" Alex, in the adjacent balcony and engrossed in smoking a cigarette, asked as he noticed Emma holding the invitation.

"Won't you quit smoking?" Emma inquired, her tone light but suggestive.

"I can't, can you stop me?" Alex declared with a mischievous grin.

Emma, with a playful glint in her eyes, responded, "Well, let's see! How about no kiss next time?"

Surprised by the challenge, Alex considered for a moment before agreeing, "Oh! Ok! I quit!" He playfully threw away the cigarette.

"What's that?" he inquired, his curiosity piqued.

"Just an invitation for parents at school tomorrow," Emma replied, a subtle smile playing on her lips.

"So, are you going to have fun with Lily at school tomorrow?" he asked, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.

"Fun?" Emma chuckled. "I wish I could go tomorrow."

"What happened?" Alex queried, sensing a tinge of disappointment in her tone.

"Well," Emma began, her expression reflecting a mixture of regret and responsibility, "I have urgent work tomorrow that I can't avoid. But I really want to attend for Lily."

"I've got an idea!" Alex declared with a glint of excitement.

"What's that?" Emma inquired, curious about the sudden spark of creativity in Alex's mind.

In the crispness of the morning, Lily stirred from her sleep, greeted by the sunlight filtering through the curtains. As she yawned and stretched, the aroma of freshly made pancakes wafted through the air, courtesy of her mother, Emma.

"Good morning, Lily! I made pancakes for you!" Emma declared, attempting to bring a touch of joy to what seemed like a gloomy morning. However, Lily's mood still lingered in the realm of discontent.

Fully dressed and ready for school, Lily and Emma approached the front door. To their surprise, Alex awaited them with a beaming smile, perched on the doorstep like a friendly guardian.

"Alex?" Lily uttered, perplexed by the unexpected presence.

"Surprise, Lily! Alex will attend the school for you instead of me!" Emma declared, her eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint as she revealed the delightful twist in the morning routine.

"Can I be your dad?" Alex chimed in with a warm smile, his willingness to step into the school environment evident.

"I love you, Dad" Lily exclaimed, expressing her affection in a heartfelt hug, the simplicity of the moment highlighting the genuine connection formed between Lily and the man who willingly embraced the role of a surrogate parent for the day.

Embracing the new plan, Alex took on the role of a fatherly figure for Lily during her day at school, stepping into the responsibilities and joys that came with it.
