Chapter 13: Five Days of Sign-In

Expanding the Living Space?

David's house is quite large, spanning a substantial 150 square meters, despite being occupied by him alone.

Standing in the living room, he utilized the opportunity to expand his living space.

As he willed it, he noticed the space around him began to transform.

It was as if the space stretched, doubling the size of what was once one square meter to two square meters!

To his surprise, an additional 100 square meters of space appeared in front of his door?!

The house was already large, but with an extra 100 square meters, it now resembled a spacious flat. David had never imagined living in such a vast space.

Hmm...

He could afford it, but it wasn't necessary.

Thinking this, David became excited.

Unexpectedly, the rewards from the sign-in were truly diverse, including some utterly unscientific ones, like forcibly adding an extra 100 square meters of space. He felt his living room could now serve as a gym.

Feeling invigorated, David started running around the room.

Every day he exercised, ate well, and practiced shooting, preparing for the impending battle with 'Charles'.

And so, five days passed.

During these days, David diligently exercised while staying alert. He placed floating surveillance at the entrance, ready to be the first to know of any intruders.

On the fifth day, while exercising in the vast living room, his session was interrupted by a notification from the terminal.

He walked over and saw three people in protective suits entering through a window on the second floor, which they had smashed.

The snow had almost buried the first floor, so it was unlikely anyone would enter from the ground floor entrance.

Seeing the three people enter aggressively, David responded with a cold smirk.

Others might fear this 'Charles', but he did not. If it came down to it, it would be a fight to the finish.

Moreover, he had grown much stronger over these five days.

He had another five chances to sign in.

"Today's sign-in reward: Bathroom*1"

"Today's sign-in reward: Penetration Ring*1"

"Today's sign-in reward: Specified Home Renovation*1"

"Today's sign-in reward: Bedroom*1"

"Today's sign-in reward: Food Combo*1"

The acquired bathroom and bedroom could be instantly set up in the house. The bedroom, needless to say, came fully equipped with a computer, coffee table, bed, complete bedding, and even an air conditioner and mosquito repellent.

He replaced his old, empty bedroom with this new one.

Then there was the bathroom, an excellent addition.

In the current freezing conditions, the original bathroom was unusable, and he had to resort to using a bucket and disposing of waste through the window.

This new bathroom seemed recyclable.

After installing it, David discovered that it even had running water for washing and flushing the toilet!

Overjoyed, he immediately took a bath.

Since the water cut-off, he hadn't bathed, relying on the cold environment to minimize sweat and odor.

But as he upgraded the doors and walls, raising the indoor temperature, and continued exercising daily, the need to bathe became apparent.

Thankfully, now he could.

Feeling the blissful water, David scrubbed himself thoroughly, even enjoying a soak.

However, he noted that the bathroom's water supply was limited to 300 liters per day, more than enough for him alone.

Daily face washing, tooth brushing, and even baths after exercise became part of his routine. David felt his life was now more comfortable than before the apocalypse, especially since he didn't have to work and could enjoy lavish meals every day.

The newly acquired home renovation opportunity wasn't used on the door but on the walls.

He saw each upgrade as an enhancement. The door, already at level one, was sufficient for now.

The door, being a smaller area, benefited more from the upgrade, allowing him to open and close it with his mind and offering robust defense.

In contrast, the walls covered a larger area, and upgrading them didn't provide as significant an improvement as the door.

Although the walls became harder, they couldn't compare to the bomb-resistant door.

To prevent Charles from breaking in through the walls, David upgraded them to level two.

Level two walls were much better, offering enhanced insulation and even a semblance of underfloor heating, making the room warmer.

Their defense was also greatly improved, almost matching the door in withstanding explosions.

He imagined further upgrades might add features like temperature control, environmental adjustments, and smart operation.

With a level three upgrade, David felt he could almost return to his pre-apocalyptic lifestyle.

The Food Combo, with salads, braised shark fins, snowflake steak, and abalone bird's nest, was nothing new among his sign-in rewards.

But the most exciting item was the 'Penetration Ring'.This device could be placed on an object to create a small external passage.

It was a game-changer for David, who had been considering how to counterattack.

It was time to fight back, not just endure attacks. Without countermeasures, even if his fortress remained impervious, the enemy would persist.

While David had little to do at home, playing this 'house' game was dull.

Mainly because he could only watch others perform without participating.

With the Penetration Ring, things would be different. The next time someone knocked, he could simply create a small hole with the ring and shoot the unwelcome neighbors.

"Come on, bring it on."

Watching the surveillance feed on his terminal, he smirked coldly, "Let's show them the power of the turtle shell strategy!"
