Chapter 35: Sniper

The group they had just encountered in a gun battle was led by someone named Brown, a power that had risen in Emeraldon since the apocalypse.

Before the apocalypse, Brown ran a martial arts gym and had some ties with criminal forces.

After the apocalypse, they broke into a police station and got their hands on many guns.

However, they usually operated in the eastern area of Emeraldon, and before the apocalypse, they were separated from Charles by a river.

Of course, that river is now frozen, and hail has almost filled it up.

So even though the bridge had collapsed, they could still cross it.

Today, as the temperature had just started to warm up, they crossed the border intending to target Charles, showing that Brown was ambitious.

However, Charles, with tips from David, wasn't eager to clash with Brown.

After the upcoming extreme heat apocalypse, Brown and his people would surely suffer, while he could develop in advance, preparing for the extreme heat, making it easy to destroy them then.

As a leader of a force, and having been a big company CEO before the apocalypse, Charles would never make a decision on impulse.

He would only make a decision after weighing the pros and cons, choosing a policy that minimized loss and maximized benefit.

To fight with Brown now would mean more than just a few losses.

But what if they waited a few more days, when their enemies would be powerless?

"David… truly a godsend," Charles whispered, "Without my reminder, he wouldn't even be aware of the temperature change outside…"

He knew all too well what this meant.

It meant that the outside temperature changes couldn't affect David. His home was unaffected by the external temperatures, what did that mean?

And there was also that freeze grenade…

If what David said was true, that grenade would be a lifesaver in the upcoming extreme heat apocalypse. The fact that he gave it to him so casually could mean that meeting David was perhaps the luckiest thing to happen to him in this apocalypse.

And David, unaware of his thoughts, was eating.

He hadn't eaten before the army arrived, to avoid attracting attention with the smell of food.

So he only started eating after going downstairs.

As he ate, David wondered whether he should inform the government about the upcoming extreme heat apocalypse.

Although he decided to hide in his house for a lifetime, he was still human and didn't want to see humanity extinct, leaving him alone on the planet.

If the world could return to its former order, that would be good.

Telling the government about the apocalypse, letting them prepare in advance, could help more people survive.

Although David had been betrayed by his neighbors before, and could be ruthless towards some, he was still human.

But after thinking about it, he felt that it wouldn't be beneficial for his survival.

Exposing his existence would surely attract many covetous people.

In this apocalypse, human desires were magnified, and David didn't trust their saintliness.

If they knew about David's 'sanctuary,' they would come after him if they had enough power. A little thought made it clear to David what they would do.

Of course, this might be him thinking too ill of others, but in this world, it's better to be prepared for the worst.

Charles hadn't turned against him not because of morality, but because he didn't have the strength to breach his defenses. If he could easily break in, he wouldn't cooperate with him.

And the government's power was too great, too strong. Cooperating with them was indeed too dangerous.

"Maybe let Charles do it, discreetly, but…"

After thinking, David rejected the idea.

"Never mind, let's wait until I'm absolutely safe."

When he upgrades his room to withstand even nuclear blasts and can't be cut by lasers, maybe then he'll consider saving the world.

For now…"Just live my own life."

Because he was at the junction of two apocalypses, David paid more attention to the changes in the outside world.

When he returned to his bedroom for a nap at noon and woke up, he found that the sunlight seemed stronger.

"Tsk tsk."

David shook his head, outside, people were extremely excited, some even killed by sudden hail, but they didn't care at all.

They were almost insane.

But soon, this madness would become even more severe.

Their meaningless tantrums below were just a waste of energy. Smart people would use this time to search for food.

But what surprised him was that after almost two months of extreme cold apocalypse, there were still so many survivors in the world.

He had thought that after an extreme cold apocalypse, at least 70-80% would die.

But seeing many people coming out of various buildings made him realize that perhaps the previous human population was just too large.

Even after a 'great extinction,' the number of survivors was still substantial.

Humans…They are a very tenacious life form.

But there must be even more tenacious creatures in the world, as some can survive in any harsh environment.

Perhaps in the future, they will come out and compete with humans for living space.

But that's for later.

Boom!

Suddenly, another loud noise.

David looked over and saw that a building had collapsed in the distance, causing a chain reaction that toppled many houses.

The collapse of the building directly crushed many of the revelers who were out celebrating, dying under the heavy weight in their extreme excitement.

David closed the window with some regret.

But…Just as he closed the window, he keenly noticed a reflection!

If it had been before, he wouldn't have thought much of it, just thinking the sun had become stronger.

But having acquired knowledge of firearms, he knew…

This was the red dot of a sniper rifle!
