Chapter 42 - Twelve Times

As the sun dipped towards the horizon, signaling the approach of twilight, the beach seemed deserted except for Talon and Emily. The other contestants were presumably busy with their rehearsals, preparing for the impending dinner hour when everyone would gather to share a meal. However, Talon and Emily chose this serene moment to stroll along the beach's edge, enjoying each other's company.

Emily walked backward in front of Talon, maintaining eye contact as they conversed. The setting sun cast a warm glow on her face, highlighting her striking green eyes and her stunning brown bob.

"I'm sure your popularity is about to skyrocket," she said with a giggle teasingly. "You're going to have so many fans."

"Why do you think so?" Talon murmured, his voice barely above the sound of the gentle waves.

"I'm confident that our conversation about your past as a street performer will resonate positively with many people," Emily explained, her eyes sparkling with sincerity. "It's a story that inspires. Even though this reality show isn't over yet and the winner is undecided, I believe people already recognize your talent, especially the judges."

Talon smiled softly, his gaze lingering on Emily's face, now bathed in the soft hues of the sunset.

"Are you one of those fans, Emily?" he asked playfully, a hint of mischief in his tone.

"Oops?" Emily feigned surprise, then giggled. "Has my praise inflated your ego, Talon?"

"That's the question, isn't it? You're quite adept at judging people," he responded with a light-hearted chuckle.

In a sudden, playful move, Emily stepped into a small wave, splashing water onto Talon's pants. "Oops, sorry," she said, not sounding sorry at all.

Talon, not to be outdone, mirrored her action, splashing her back. "Oops, sorry," he echoed with a grin.

Emily scooped up more water and playfully threw it at Talon before running away, laughing heartily. Talon chased after her swiftly and caught her in his arms. They both laughed, their eyes locked in a moment of genuine connection.

As the sun finally set and darkness began to envelop the beach, Emily smiled softly. "Do moments like this only happen in reality shows?" she asked, her voice tinged with a mix of wonder and wistfulness.

"Let's recreate moments like this outside of this reality show," Talon suggested, his voice filled with a hopeful undertone.

Emily smiled, a spark of excitement in her eyes. She took Talon's hand, leading the way. They walked hand in hand, their steps syncing in the soft sand.

"Talon, are you interested in exploring the world of acting? You mentioned it to me before," Emily queried, her curiosity evident in her tone.

"Yes…" Talon nodded affirmatively. "I want to delve into many things - singing, acting, a lot of things," he replied with a determined look.

"You're quite ambitious, huh?" Emily remarked, her voice tinged with admiration.

Talon's eyes were fixed on the horizon as he spoke, "This is a huge opportunity for me. With all this access, I want to make the most out of it."

"I've noticed you often wake up earlier than the others and run along the beach," Emily observed, her eyes meeting his.

"You knew that?" Talon asked, slightly surprised.

Emily nodded. "You seem to be constantly practicing. Maybe that's why you won the relay race."

Talon nodded, acknowledging her observation.

"So, about acting," Emily continued. "I can introduce you to some people who might help you get deeper into that world."

"I want to act in a film that includes you, too," Talon said earnestly.

Emily turned to face him, her expression softening. "Unfortunately, I no longer pursue acting, Talon."

"Why?" he inquired, his curiosity piqued.

Emily faced forward, avoiding his gaze and leaving his question unanswered. Talon knew well that Emily was incredibly talented in acting, even more so than in singing.

"I want you to act again," he said gently, his voice filled with sincerity.

Emily glanced back at Talon, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "You certainly made me do a lot of things I had given up on," she joked, trying to ease the tension.

Talon tightened his grip on Emily's hand, bringing them both to a halt on the soft beach sand. Emily stopped, too, turning to face him, her expression a mix of curiosity and anticipation.

"I don't know why you stopped acting, Emily. But I want to see you return to the industry. I know you have talent in it," he said earnestly, his gaze locked onto hers.

"How do you know?" she asked, a flicker of curiosity lighting up her eyes. "You've never seen me act, right?"

"I see a spark in your eyes, a kind of enthusiasm that lights up every time you talk about acting. It's the same as when you offered to help me with it. That's why I want you to get back into it," Talon explained, his voice soft yet firm.

"So, does that mean you'll delve into the industry if I return to acting?" she inquired, a hint of hope in her voice.

"Yes," Talon replied without hesitation.

"And you'll still want to be my friend after we're done with this reality show?" she asked, her voice revealing a rare vulnerability.

Talon had always known Emily to be a cheerful and resilient woman, but he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more going on beneath her tough exterior. He couldn't quite figure out what was causing her insecurity, but he could sense it lingering in the air.

"Yes, we're friends, and we will explore the acting industry together after this show ends," he assured her.

Emily nodded slowly, her eyes reflecting a mixture of resolve and thoughtfulness. "I'll try," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Talon smiled reassuringly. "Let's go back. I'm sure the others are waiting for us," he suggested, a warm smile on his face.

Emily returned his smile and nodded, following him as Talon led the way, holding her hand gently yet firmly.

That evening, the beach was alive with the vibrant energy of the contestants as they gathered for a seafood barbecue. The aroma of grilling seafood filled the air, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and relaxation. Talon stood near the grill, attentively cooking squid and fish. The others mingled cheerfully, enjoying the pleasant beach night.

Rachel occasionally approached Talon, assisting him by taking the perfectly grilled fish off the heat and serving it to the others. Her presence added a spark of warmth to the task at hand.

Then Claire approached, her eyes reflecting a curious gleam. "Talon, do you need a hand?" she asked, and without waiting for a response, she started arranging the seafood on the grill with practiced ease.

"Thanks," Talon said, grateful for the assistance.

He hadn't had many opportunities to chat with Claire during the reality show, so even these small exchanges felt rare and somewhat significant.

Claire looked up at Talon and giggled. "Thanks seems to be the word I hear most from you," she teased.

Talon couldn't help but smile back as she giggled.

"Have we met before?" he asked.

Claire tilted her head, looking at him, and then smiled, nodding. "Yes."

Talon's thoughts whirled. 'So, she really is the same girl I thought I knew,' he mused to himself.

"Twelve times, we've met twelve times before," Claire continued, a playful hint in her voice.
