At the Magical Research Institute, Murphy settled Patrick and the other patients, lifted the sleeping spells on a few of the Muggle security team members who were not severely injured, and learned about what had happened.
Last night, suddenly, more than thirty fully transformed werewolves appeared beside Patrick's lakeside villa.
They were driven by an especially large werewolf to attack the villa. The security team members put up a fierce resistance, but the werewolves' fur had extremely strong defense, coupled with their remarkable healing abilities, making it very difficult for Muggle firearms to kill them.
Their speed and strength far exceeded that of ordinary humans, and the sudden encounter with such monsters, along with the shock and chaos, caused the Muggle security team to immediately fall into a tough fight.
Almost instantly, they lost three comrades, then the werewolves broke into the villa and began slaughtering.
They bit almost everyone, and in this process, a few more security team members were killed, the rest were severely injured.
Patrick tried to hide Audrey and Ares, but was unsuccessful. The especially large werewolf, with its keen hearing, discovered Audrey and Ares hidden in a cupboard. He injured Audrey and took little Ares away before the Muggle police arrived.
Taking human children to turn them into werewolves was Greyback's perverse pleasure.
But as a Muggle child, Ares had a very small chance of surviving the bite.
He must be found immediately.
Murphy made a call to Rita Skeeter.
"Immediately post several notices, they must be conspicuous, offering a reward for the werewolf's location, a reward of ten thousand Galleons for precise locations, and two thousand Galleons for clues, telling them to call me. Also, contact the Wizarding Wireless Network, contact all channels you know, buy all their advertising spots, and immediately publish this reward."
Most werewolves are nomads, and those following Greyback are mostly vagrants. Even the few captured werewolves didn't know where they would appear next.
Spells like Point Me seemed to have limited effect on distant targets, so Murphy had to use this method to find their location.
Then Murphy called the medical team, the Transformation Research Group, and the Werewolf Treatment Project team to discuss the treatment for Patrick and the others.
"For ordinary werewolf bites, by cutting off the magically infected parts, or using strong wound cleaners plus 'Curse-Scouring Potion' (Thief's Downfall) to wash away the magic from the wound, it can heal normally."
"We treated the shop employees bitten by untransformed werewolves this way. Mrs. Audrey, who only suffered scratches, didn't come into contact with the werewolf's venomous saliva, should also be treatable this way."
Alecto had adapted to life at the Institute in the few months she had been there, even her way of speaking had shifted towards that of the researchers.
"Hmm, what about those who were bitten, any plans?"
Alecto looked towards Andrew, who said, "Yes, we have an idea, but it's very difficult to achieve."
"Let's hear it."
"First, let me introduce werewolfism."
"When we studied werewolfism, we found that unlike vampires with many defects, it actually progresses further on the path of higher Magus, more perfect. Its defect lies in the cause of the Animagus potion mutation, which has two factors, one being the wolf, and the other being the rabies virus that alters the wolf's mental state."
"Therefore, the transformation into a werewolf is actually two processes, one is the Animagus transformation process into a wolf, and the other is the infection process of the magical rabies virus. The virus infection is how werewolfism spreads."
"If it's the early stage of infection, chemical methods or T-cell therapy can suppress the virus replication, thus having a certain therapeutic effect."
"But the magical rabies virus infects much faster than the ordinary rabies virus. When we performed a lumbar puncture on these patients to check their cerebrospinal fluid, we already found signs of the magical rabies virus."
"Ordinary drugs and T-cell therapy are helpless against the virus in nerve cells. Although we can still delay the disease with smart potions to enhance nerve strength and werewolfbane potion to suppress virus replication, we cannot eliminate the virus."
"Once it reaches this stage, werewolfism is basically very difficult to cure."
"So we thought maybe they could survive by successfully transforming into werewolves."
"This is hard, most Muggles bitten by werewolves don't survive. The success rate is less than 6%."
Andrew said, "We preliminarily guess this is because the transformation process draws a lot of energy. Wizards can support this process by paying magic, but Muggles don't have magic, so they will consume something like life force."
"The manifestation is multi-organ failure. This process is very fast, generally Muggles can't last three days, and Mr. Patrick probably only has a few hours left."
"However, there are werewolves who have transformed from Muggles," Andrew said, "The secret to their survival lies in magic."
"After the magical rabies virus invades the brain, due to a mechanism we currently don't understand, Muggles begin to produce magic. We also detected this phenomenon with a magic tester."
"Magic born from the virus supported the transformation process. This requires both processes to be very balanced. If the transformation process is too fast, the magic that the magical rabies virus can guide out is insufficient, leading to organ failure. If the virus infection is too fast, the person will be killed by the virus before the transformation is complete."
"So even if we can suppress the virus with werewolfbane potion, we can't do so, because this would make the magic supply in Patrick and the others even less, thereby accelerating organ failure."
"Only by finding a way to supplement their magic can they complete the transformation and thus escape danger."
"Supplement magic? Can this be done?" Murphy asked.
Andrew glanced at Holden beside him, who nodded and said, "We have already developed an injectable magic potion. It's actually just wizard serum mixed with some components that can maintain magic."
"However, due to the different magical dimensions of each person, this magic potion can only be used on oneself. Injecting a magic potion made from someone else's serum might cause magical chaos, which is very dangerous."
Murphy looked at Andrew again, "Do you have a solution to this problem?"
Andrew nodded, "This is actually a problem of giving magic a specific 'scent'. We've encountered this problem before."
Murphy immediately understood, "Animagus potion?"
"Yes, if we treat wizards as a type of animal, target them for the potion, and add 'scent' characteristics extracted from a Muggle with a compound potion halfway through, we can create a magic potion with the specific 'scent' characteristics of that Muggle."
"This idea, you didn't just think of it today, did you?" Murphy asked.
"Yes, Chief, this is one of our sub-projects—the research results on the transformation of Muggles into wizards."
Andrew finished, looking somewhat uneasy at Murphy, "If you think this project is inappropriate to continue, we'll stop it right now."
